I bought a Netgear XR500 last november for the very impressive looking DumaOS... to find a buggy, completely not fleshed out (event he VPN function advertised wasn’t implemented until a late December firmware update), insanely unstable (crashed at least once a week every week, i had to resort to using my 4yr old Netgear R7000 that was perfectly reliable) router with the company that makes DumaOS having an incredibly apathetic
So if you're looking for a high speed router that's gonna work for you and your family consistently I can't honestly recommend this for you to buy for your home especially if you are already on a budget.
As long as ASUS is working to improve there security issues in check l like this router, lots of options, good interface.
I have about 20 connected devices in my household, including 4K smart TV, robot vacuum, notebook, ipad, mobile phone, smart plug...etc. without any issues
Signal is really good and i love the led color, is amazing looks like a alien spaceship

The RT-AX3000 (aka RT-AX58U) is a solid mid-level router with very good performance in its class for up to mid-sized homes by itself (without meshing).
As antiquated as that feels, and as limited as the perf is, it is still a ton better than this disaster of a router
A week after my first purchase I have purchased several more Asus AX86U routers for business use and those are also showing exceptional performance and reliability.
Initially upgraded from an RT-AC86U which worked great over to the RT-AC88U which was where the performance became questionable especially on the 2.4ghz band where at best would cap out at 40-50 Mbps compared to the 100+ from the 86U.
As I said, I think some of the negative performance reviews here may be attributed to a lack of understanding.

beasty” router like the AX88U (which likely has greater range too).
* Netgear *cough*. Tried the RAX8 from Netgear which was god awful with bad range & slower than expected speeds even after going into advanced settings to enable features that they advertise on the box but have disabled by default for some reason
This router was fast and had a great range, so its sad that I had such a bad experience because of one issue
Amazing looks and RGB aura light controlsCons:- Poor WiFi 6 performance- lower range compared to other ASUS performance routers- trails other ASUS routers in speed- Fixed antennas are not replaceable/upgradable
I no longer get range related Wifi issues in the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band that I sometimes had before with the AC68U and previous generation routers

but I will be looking for another brand (due to defective product right out of the box or just plain horrible support - either one is not good if you are looking for reliable service).
I would never recommend this product or any Asus products to anyone.
This product just works and has all of the latest tech at a great price
I love the product easy installation, easy password set up for the two wireless networks and it works great.
Asus has a solid product here, no problems setting up, securing network and good signal strength.

Again when the 5G is online the speeds are amazing with the internet service I have
Almost 700mbps on my Galaxy S20, quite amazing wifi speeds.
Strong signal, good wall penetration, easy setup, easy app usage and fast speeds
And even when my WIFI 6 devices were behaving, the speeds were hit and miss
Then as the speeds degraded on the wired ethernet connection, the wireless connections, although inconsistent, were consistently capped to much less than half of what they were before, which was already unacceptable

Tried disabling Smart Connect, QoS, setting 2.4 and 5 as different SSIIDs, reconnecting the RP-AC1900 ... same problem.
The other routers were my main router (Asus RT-AX89X) and an existing node (Asus RT-AC68U).Ultimately, the solve to get the AX-3000 connected to my mesh system was to unplug the RT-
Configured as Smart Connect (Dual-Band Smart Connect) which will auto change between 2.4 and 5GHz depending upon signal strength and device supportability
Most devices would go to 2.4 ghz and not 5ghz even when smart connect was turned off
*Smart connect isn’t smart**:It significantly reduces throughput on devices switching between 2.4 and 5

As it turns out, it was a DHCP issue on the Comcast ISP side, my apartment building ran out of valid IPs to assign

the NETGEAR RAX80 (they currently have three WiFi 6 routers) and am confident that this will resolve my DHCP issues because (1) the manual says external DHCP servers are supported, and (2) my experience with other NETGEAR routers, including the R8000, demonstrates that there will be no issues reservng IP addresses based on the MAC address of the device connecting to the router.
These DHCP issues were pretty random in both the clients that would sporadically have issues and the time/day it happened.

wireless WiFi was the only downfall for this router, 5ghz did not meet expectations when my internet service is 1gbps, also, the WiFi had several dead spots and the house I live is less than 1500 square feet, and the wall partitions are nothing more than dry wall... also, the 2.4 ghz was also another disappointment, i do not recommend this router, if your gonna spend $150, spend it on something more reliable
My prior system had 6 extra access points set up using Asus' mesh system due to a big house area and lots of dead spots.
I felt this AX3000 was at the sweet spot for price-to-performance in a new sub-$200 AX router, and so far it’s a keeper for me.

Lost 2 hours of work due to a drop out on my work laptop and a screw up in the VPN (part my fault - forgot to save).
Been struggling hours ever since to access it or get it to connect
We've poured hours into trying to get this to work - going through both support (not helpful) and various online threads (pseudo-helpful: people describe similar problems and tips that improve stability, but we're still worse off than before
It’s a minor interruption, but there have been a few times when I was streaming TV at odd hours when it needed to reboot.

The only draw back I have found is I am having trouble adding a hard drive to create a local cloud storage.
My only complaint is how existing folders on a NAS (USB hard drive) have to be mapped as individual drives
Haven’t tried a spinning USB hard drive attached yet.
However, when setting up a new hard drive (NAS), subfolders can easily be added to a parent folder so that only one drive has to be mapped to access all the folders
