the new in box version has been fine.appears to use a standard type battery that can be replaced at a good value and can be done by the home user with a little bit of skill.overall, i bought this unit to provide sound battery backup, and it has never failed, and the battery life is decent
Appears to work as advertised and is definitely a good value when you consider the price.
This has been a great value and will buy CyberPower products again for my UPS and other power needs.
My research indicated that this was a solid value for the combination of power, features, and warranty (3 yrs.)
This vertical / horizontal UPS is realy well designed and excellent value , plus it is user friendly by using standard replacement batteries, no specialized batteries required
The unit works as expected - this is my third unit from CyberPower (after I swore off APC after one of their units screwed up the BIOS on an old computer).

Unfortunately, this is not prominently mentioned anywhere on Amazon or CyberPower's site, although Cyberpower tech support first asked me to run several (reasonable, but unrelated to the problem) tests, before identifying a known issue as the problem -- a week later -- that I had bought the wrong machine because of a lack of information.
Not to mention their tech support was giggling and laughing the whole time I was on the phone with them, I finally had to talk to another rep because the first one was busy playing.
Not only is the tech support a bunch of clowns -took 3 days to tell me that this unit is only good as a paper

The fairly compact unit came fully charged, was very easy to setup, and, so far, seems to work exactly as advertised (although, I haven't had a power interruption to test its true mettle yet).I recommend not installing the PowerPanel software from the included disk, but rather going to CP's website and downloading the latest version (free) from there
Blatant corporate advertising dishonesty has been addressed, now a solid entry level unit
The UPS works as advertised, in spite of apparently being used as a drop-kick toy by the shipper
However, it's one of the few reasonably priced units out there that will protect your expensive 4K TV from a voltage spike coming in over the coaxial line of the cable company in addition to the standard power surges.
Although you can't really discern whether a UPS is functioning till you have a surge or strike, the Cyberpower seems to be working just fine.
Keep up the great work and I will use Amazon again, when I need this type of product and others.
Easy to set up, and have had several surges, and was able to save important work before I shut down the computer ( A real life saver for me)
The best thing about this brand is that they provide phone support, and that support is provided by Americans in America.
I've been gaming several times now during a brownout/surge where this UPS hasn't done a damn thing, making it almost completely pointless, as this was why I bought it
Then before I ordered a replacement battery, the whole thing was dead
The only negative thing about this would be the raised "hump" running down the center of the outlets
One good benefit is that this unit does not have an audible alarm when power is lost, which in my case is a good thing since my last one would chime away when power was lost which freaked out my dogs- if they add this feature in the future I would request that the alarm could be turned off if not desired.
, I measured the max draw for the connected computer (configured as described above), monitor, and 1 external hard drive to be 352 watts at power-up/boot-up
I have a large system dell 24in lcd, dsl router, wireless router, dual core tower, external hard drive
It doesn't consume many watts but those hard drives are pretty expensive to replace, to say nothing of the costs of digging files out of backups when data is lost

Only the Dell XPS 710, the Dell 24" monitor, and 1 external 500GB HP hard drive are connected to the CP UPS
This spring will be the real test as I get a lot of power flickers during thunderstorms
My wife's college projects are not lost when the power flickers
Ever since we've had these UPS, we've never had to concern ourselves with when and if the power flickers or goes out again.
I work from home, so power flickers can cause me major grief, especially when most only last for a few seconds or minutes and seem to come in spurts during a storm.
This can do it for about 5 mins, so it will work if the power flickers
I wish I'd have bought one years ago before my harddrive eventually crashed due to these power interruptions
It does buzz when there's a power sag (brownout) or power interruption (blackout)
I'm in a rural area where power interruptions are common.
I guess it will do, as power interruptions are not that frequent so far.

The CyberPower CP685AVRG uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system provides battery backup and surge protection for lightning-induced surges and other power events that can damage electronic equipment
This UPS, with line-interactive topology, uses simulated sine wave output to deliver enough battery backup to power connected electronics through a utility power failure
The unit has enough runtime to perform a graceful shutdown to protect against the loss of data and damage to valuable desktop computers, workstations, networking devices, and home entertainment systems
The CP685AVRG uses Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) to correct minor power fluctuations without switching to battery power
AVR is essential in areas where power fluctuations occur frequently, and it helps to extend the unit’s battery life
CyberPower designed the CP685AVRG to minimize noise for a quieter work environment and run efficiently to reduce power consumption
With a $125,000 lifetime connected equipment guarantee and a three-year warranty, you can trust CyberPower’s commitment to the quality of this battery backup with surge protection.
