Reviews around design (5.00 of 5)

  • This thing is simplicity in its finest! The design/engineering is great, but it’s almost like their engineering team and software/support teams are all on completely different planets
  • Excellent quality, simple build, compact design, easy to use
  • Outside of that it's also built like a tank, looks cool on a desk, and (much like the brilliantly designed Balance by Propellerhead) has a nice clean front with all your controls while hiding your cable mess neatly in the back
  • this little interface works amazing, just like that., for 150USD u can't get something better, loving the front knobs and the de main design, feels strong, and the preamps behave really clean and nice, top!
  • It’s incredibly durable, has a fantastic build quality/design, and it captures audio incredibly well for an interface in this price range, but on the other hand Mackie has really gone downhill with customer service and support

Reviews around job (5.00 of 5)

  • With a lot of audio interfaces the drivers can be a hassle, but luckily Mackie has done an excellent job here
  • Make the investment in your audio, the Mackie will not do an outstanding job
  • If you want to hook up your mic, this will do a great job
  • The software takes a little getting used to, but it does a very good job.

Reviews around range (5.00 of 5)

  • The volume level was much higher and the tonal range was better than I had been getting from my previous solution.
  • If you are running a DAW off of a compact device such as a Tablet or Smartphone, this will highly improve the dynamic range of your recordings, and improve latency

Reviews around hardware (5.00 of 5)

  • The hardware is built great and is definitely the highlight of the product
  • So, in short, great hardware quality, great sonic quality, poor software and drivers
  • Mackie is pretty good at turning out decent-sounding hardware at an attractive price point, but their software development is awful
  • I get that bundle of NI software that I love and the hardware
  • The hardware itself seems fine, nicely built and sounds clean

Reviews around knob (4.21 of 5)

  • It's kind of useless and works as a blend knob for live tracking, but it just creates a chorus effect from minor latency from the computer's feed.
  • this little interface works amazing, just like that., for 150USD u can't get something better, loving the front knobs and the de main design, feels strong, and the preamps behave really clean and nice, top!
  • This is such as solid unit, the pre's sound pretty dang good for the money, and the knobs are all silky smooth
  • it sounds great, the knobs are super sturdy and have a great feel to them
  • Dead silent knobs, good output range

Reviews around build (3.98 of 5)

  • It is well build and gets the job done - UNLESS you decide you want to stay current and use Windows 8 on your computer
  • It is very sturdy (steel case) and well built so I didn't even get a warranty with it because I doubt I will need it ever
  • For the price u probably won't fine nothing better.
  • The interface itself is a solid, well built interface with zero noise or hum, even on high volume
  • It’s incredibly durable, has a fantastic build quality/design, and it captures audio incredibly well for an interface in this price range, but on the other hand Mackie has really gone downhill with customer service and support

  • the "Audio In" to Onyx Blackjack, started up "Logic" and it worked instantly
  • The pre amps on this thing are absolutely fantastic, clear and concise audio with zero latency monitoring
  • For the price u probably won't fine nothing better.
  • It’s incredibly durable, has a fantastic build quality/design, and it captures audio incredibly well for an interface in this price range, but on the other hand Mackie has really gone downhill with customer service and support

Reviews around feature (3.70 of 5)

  • For the price u probably won't fine nothing better.
  • For this reason I give it a full 5 stars since sound for me is the most important feature in a 2-channel interface
  • The angled ergonomic design is my favorite feature with this device.
  • n’t support current OSs, I must remove a star out of principle, and I nearly removed two
  • A simple product with modest features, but quality design and performance; the onxy blackjack fit the bill wondrously.

Reviews around unit (3.69 of 5)

  • This unit is exactly what I needed and with the new drivers it works well with almost no noise, plus it's made in the U.S
  • Its a shame because physically this unit is perfect for what I needed
  • For the price u probably won't fine nothing better.
  • In summary, this particular unit did not work in my Windows 7 workstation
  • My unit works flawlessly on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit HP PC running Adobe Audition.

Reviews around product (3.52 of 5)

  • Anyway, I wouldn't purchase again or recommend this product.
  • Makes ya wonder why the antiquated product is even being pedaled
  • Normally I love Mackie products, but this one is a dud.
  • Mackie has once again shown their complete lack of decent customer service and failure to deliver solid products
  • I contacted Mackie support and was informed that this product is not supported on macOS Sierra (10.12).Very disappointing.

Reviews around customer support (3.22 of 5)

  • For the price u probably won't fine nothing better.
  • So now I get to add that the customer support is great!
  • Even though it was out of warranty, I reached out to customer support to see if they could help
  • For the price u probably won't fine nothing better.
  • I called customer support and they where nice, but didn't offer a solution other than try the installation again (which I did).

Reviews around noise (1.38 of 5)

  • I see some reviewers complaining about a hissing noise though I do not experience this at all
  • Sadly, I was unable to get the driver below 256 samples without odd noise
  • I attempted using the drivers provided by Mackie, but they crashed continually and produce a horrible loud white noise (HINT: only connect your headphones and have them on your desk for testing).I attempted using it without the drivers and only with the Windows 7 default sound drivers.
  • But after few time there is sometime noise sound that disturb me that I don't found from internal soundcard
  • No audible noise at all, and the preamps provide plenty of overhead.

Reviews around latency issue (1.38 of 5)

  • The major negatives are that it has some pretty bad latency issues that pop up every once in awhile
  • n’t support current OSs, I must remove a star out of principle, and I nearly removed two
  • Constantly having to readjust the settings and driver for audio anomalies and latency issues is extremely unproductive.
  • But if I dare open up youtube and watch a video or two then go back to working on my music, the thing will start having drop outs or latency issues

Reviews around driver issue (1.00 of 5)

  • it's your computer that's having driver issues, not the product
  • I was concerned about purchasing this product with all of the reviews about driver issues on Windows
  • I have to admit all the negative reviews about Windows 7 driver issues had me worried when I bought the Blackjack in early Sept 2013.
  • You might be having USB problems, Windows driver issues, etc

More about Mackie Onyx Blackjack 2x2 USB Recording Interface

  • style:Recording Interface Let's face it
  • If you could fit one of our flagship Onyx 1640i consoles into your workspace and budget, you probably would do it
  • But that shouldn't mean you have to settle for the cheapest, plastic 2x2 interface available
  • We've spent serious time and research creating the Onyx Blackjack Premium USB Recording Interface
  • It delivers the same proven Onyx preamps as our other flagship Onyx products in an ultra-compact, ergonomic desktop design perfect for your home studio
  • Other professional features include high-end AD/DA converters, built-in DIs, phantom power and true analog hardware monitoring of inputs for hassle-free zero-latency tracking, in either mono or stereo
  • The USB connection provides bus-power to the Blackjack, eliminating the need for another cable run
  • Plus, it's Mac/PC friendly and ready for most major DAWs right out of the box
  • So, don't settle
  • Be smart and check out the Onyx Blackjack - the utmost in sonic quality and simplicity
  • Boutique-Quality Onyx PreAmps Great recordings start with high-quality preamps and you will simply not find preamps at this price range better than Blackjack’s Onyx preamps
  • We invested significant R&D efforts into developing our flagship Onyx mic preamps
  • Found on our most expensive studio consoles, Onyx pres are designed to meet or surpass expensive, esoteric standalone mic pres in terms of fidelity, headroom and transparency – as well as improved radio frequency (RFI) rejection and ultra-wide dynamic range
  • And with a full 60dB of available gain, would-be competitors are left in the dust
  • High-Quality AD/DA Conversion Quality doesn’t stop at the boutique Onyx preamps
  • The Onyx Blackjack uses Cirrus Logic® converters offering 114dB dynamic range (A-weighted) – a specification other companies sometimes charge thousands of dollars to achieve
  • Our preamp circuitry is aligned precisely with the onboard analog-to-digital conversion to always provide you with the most headroom and the lowest noise and distortion possible, a real sonic benefit that is often ignored on smaller interfaces
  • Zero-Latency Recording Latency is evil and must be punished
  • If you have recorded with digital gear, chances are you feel the same way
  • It’s a pesky computer-induced delay that can quickly kill the vibe of any recording session
  • Blackjack puts this issue to rest once and for all, featuring a true analog monitoring path directly from the preamps to your studio monitors and headphones
  • This means you can track while listening to the direct analog source with zero routing
  • Not only that, it also means you can adjust your buffer settings to maximize your computers processing ability
  • Oh yeah, Blackjack also allows you to track with zero latency in either mono or stereo, so you can get the right vibe when recording stereo signals like acoustic guitars and keyboards
  • Professional Tools No other ultra-compact desktop interface delivers as many professional features as the Onyx Blackjack
  • Both channels double as built-in DIs for direct connection of guitars, basses, keyboards, drum machines, etc
  • Both channels also deliver 48V phantom power, so you can use studio-quality condenser mics with no problem
  • The studio monitor and headphone outputs have independent level controls for maximum flexibility
  • Plus, the Onyx Blackjack is bus-powered via USB, so there’s no power supply to lose or another cable cluttering your workspace
  • It also comes with Mackie’s Tracktion 3 Music Production software, so you can get started recording right away
  • Ergonimacally Inclined Most desktop interfaces have a serious flaw: their construction
  • First off, most are made of cheap, breakable plastic
  • Onyx Blackjack features a sleek, powder-coated all-metal chassis that is truly “Built-Like-A-Tank”
  • You could literally use it as a hammer to smash the competition (not recommended at your local store)
  • Second, when they are sitting on your desk, the competition lies flat, with no way to read the markings on the front panel
  • Have you ever accidently turned the wrong knob during your session? Not fun
  • The Onyx Blackjack sits with a 25-degree inclination, allowing for full view of all controls at all times, meaning more recording time and less hassle
  • A good idea – right? So there you have it
  • An extremely simple, but very powerful desktop interface that delivers all the features you want in a design that could fit in your man purse
  • Small studio
  • Big solution
  • Onyx Blackjack
