I was under the impression that once this was mounted to the seat rail, with the X-Grip mounted to that, there would be almost no movement of the X-Grip once my phone was secured in It

The problem is that vibration from road is passed from the road to my cell phone at the end of the 18 inch mount causing my phone to vibrate like a tuning fork

If one were to support a smart phone or some other device that is intended to be in use while moving forward, the vibration may become a factor.

The long portion of the ram pod is made of rolled aluminum or some other soft metal

Honestly, I was expecting a more solid arm because it does sway with the movement of the vehicle, or maybe just that the tablet is just too heavy for it

This is a really solid mount, but the "flexible" shaft is actually just a solid aluminum bar you have to bend.

On the plus side, the 1/2 inch dia solid aluminum bar was easy to bend

The clamps held the bar and ball joint really well but this product just didn't work for my iPad mini

It took a decent amount of work/flexing to straighten the bar out using a vice and clamps to make it usable

I couldn't get a good clamp on the rod with the base until I figured out that I needed to line up the bottom of the rod with the bottom of the ribbing (a couple mm from the bottom) of the clamp

This perhaps says more about the lack of any tolerance in the Porsche than anything, but I would have like to know this before finding out the hard way.

Im on the road all the time and this is the best way to secure my iPhone

Solid aluminum rod was very easy to work with and installation took only about 10 minutes in my Dodge Ram pickup.

And when I say bend, I mean you will need tools to make any intricate bends.

Plan your bends carefully beforehand, the metal deforms and is hard to correct without marring.

this is a great product, I mounted this to the passenger seat rail of my F150the bracket did not slide in as far as i wanted, so i drilled out the rivets in the seat rail and bolted the bracket directly into the holes making it very sturdyI made my bends using a bench vise following the instruction to make the bends sharp and not sweepingHaving the internet and internet driven navigation has been great

The rod is extremely tightend at both the foot where it is bolted to the seat rail and the other end that connects to the socket where the ball on the back of the X-Grip attaches to so the play is in the rod itself
