Just be sure to keep an eye on them and your recording will sound fine.
be sure to read the directions carefully before doing recordings from a mic because there are many options in the advanced options to be aware of for a good recording. reccomended!

The recorder itself is easy enough to use, although some time spent reading the manual will save you some frustration when you're trying to navigate the menus
I think Sony has essentially abandoned support for both the software and firmware for this device and put any efforts into solid state recorders

UPDATE 20 Jan 2010:Well, the unit still plays what I've previously recorded, but just before Christmas I was recording some Christmas DVDs and got through to the last one when the software errored out

The auto level setting can be pretty choppy sounding because of the quick compression that occurs, so it's worth using the manual levels
I've found that 192kbps MP3 format gives me decent sound and allows me to dump around 12 hours of music to a single disc.
But, the biggest surprise of the item is simply how good mp3s sound.
The sound is good.
I will need to experiment with the recording level to find the best SN ratio, but playing the recording (analog) back through the amplifier or through a headset produced excellent, accurate sound.

I really love this player, actually, I just need time to let it earn its 5 stars, if it will.
Got it to replace one that was stolen, which brings me to my first point, if I had a hard drive player, and it got stolen, I would have had to replace all the songs I had previously transfered.
