  • Just be sure to keep an eye on them and your recording will sound fine.
  • be sure to read the directions carefully before doing recordings from a mic because there are many options in the advanced options to be aware of for a good recording. reccomended!
  • It works well with an external microphone, but records to only the left channel with a mono microphone

Reviews around recorder (5.00 of 5)

  • The recorder itself is easy enough to use, although some time spent reading the manual will save you some frustration when you're trying to navigate the menus
  • I think Sony has essentially abandoned support for both the software and firmware for this device and put any efforts into solid state recorders

Reviews around mp3 (5.00 of 5)

  • ConclusionFor the price of a modest hard-disk MP3 player you will in addition purchase a high quality digital recoder
  • This was Sony's alleged attempt to make MiniDisc relevant after MP3 became popular.

Reviews around space (5.00 of 5)

  • For recording, it consumes less power with the old MD's rather than the new gig md's (same fidelity choices, just less space on the older ones).
  • The best part that you will have an almost unlimited storage space with this system

Reviews around storage (5.00 of 5)

  • The best part that you will have an almost unlimited storage space with this system
  • I use this MD recorder with an inexpensive A-T Pro24 stereo microphone for field and live acoustic recording
  • If you are technically adept, it is a the superior format for mp3 stuff, recording, portable data storage etc

Reviews around feature (5.00 of 5)

  • SonicStage's commendable features are diluted by its slow performance and tendency to crash or hang without warning(I'm talking Windows here.)
  • The player itself is well designed and the features are very welcomed, specially the line in recording, which makes good quality recordings
  • I use this MD recorder with an inexpensive A-T Pro24 stereo microphone for field and live acoustic recording

Reviews around battery life (5.00 of 5)

  • The battery life is fine for play back - longer than ipod.
  • I use this MD recorder with an inexpensive A-T Pro24 stereo microphone for field and live acoustic recording
  • I use this MD recorder with an inexpensive A-T Pro24 stereo microphone for field and live acoustic recording
  • The battery life isn't great either, at most 4-6hrs, My old mini disc runs on regular AAs and it gives me well over 10hrs

Reviews around unit (5.00 of 5)

  • I use this MD recorder with an inexpensive A-T Pro24 stereo microphone for field and live acoustic recording
  • I chose this unit because I'd liked my previous MD player (software and firmware issues notwithstanding)
  • UPDATE 20 Jan 2010:Well, the unit still plays what I've previously recorded, but just before Christmas I was recording some Christmas DVDs and got through to the last one when the software errored out

  • I just got my player yesterday, so I can not give a fair review, as I've not had the time to test everyting out yet, so please don't let the 3 stars scare you off.
  • After reading so many good reviews, I do not believe these 2 little guys are that bad

Reviews around sound (3.86 of 5)

  • The auto level setting can be pretty choppy sounding because of the quick compression that occurs, so it's worth using the manual levels
  • I've found that 192kbps MP3 format gives me decent sound and allows me to dump around 12 hours of music to a single disc.
  • But, the biggest surprise of the item is simply how good mp3s sound.
  • The sound is good.
  • I will need to experiment with the recording level to find the best SN ratio, but playing the recording (analog) back through the amplifier or through a headset produced excellent, accurate sound.

Reviews around player (3.44 of 5)

  • ConclusionFor the price of a modest hard-disk MP3 player you will in addition purchase a high quality digital recoder
  • I really love this player, actually, I just need time to let it earn its 5 stars, if it will.
  • Got it to replace one that was stolen, which brings me to my first point, if I had a hard drive player, and it got stolen, I would have had to replace all the songs I had previously transfered.
  • This is a good mini disc player
  • So far the player is very intuitive.

Reviews around sonicstage (1.69 of 5)

  • SonicStage 3.0 is a HUGE improvement over 2.x
  • I use this MD recorder with an inexpensive A-T Pro24 stereo microphone for field and live acoustic recording
  • I was happy enough with that one, but the SonicStage v 2.X software could be a nightmare
  • I must say, too, that sonicstage is not bad so far, despite what other reviewers have written.
