3M 39008 Headlight Lens Restoration System

    • The reason is that this kit lacks a UV protection coating to apply when you are done.
    • I would recommend spraying your headlights after restoration with a clear coat spray
    • It took a while to remove this stubborn coating (1 hour per headlight) but after that the process went pretty fast, especially wet sanding with the finer grits
    • This is a great kit by all means,, I did my headlights on my 2010 enclave diffrently than the instructions called for because some dipstick put on an extra heavy layer of film or clear coat ,absolutley destroyed my first 2 500 Grit discs in a matter of seconds!!
    • Overall satisfied with the kit, but I highly recommend applying the clear coat wipes after completing all the steps on both of your headlights.
    • I've used other kits with a wipe on clear coat which ended up still blurry

    • The only difference is this kit contains a clear coat wipe instead of the rubbing/polishing compound that's included in the cheaper kit
    • It's not a permanent fix but with regular cleaning and reapplication of clear coat UV spray I think the job will last 2 years
    • So the clear-coat stuff is worthless in my opinion, sure it gives you the WOW factor when you first put it on since it hides any imperfections (which there should be few if you took your time sanding), but I'll be shocked if it lasts 100 miles before it all flakes off.
    • 3M's kit with my drill easily removed the clouding (pic 1) on my '05 chevy lights and polished them as a perfect prep for the Meguiar's clear coat I put on for protection that will keep them looking new for the next year or more (pic 2).
    • I finished with a meguiars clear coat spray after utilizing the kit.
    • but unfortunately I had a factory clear coat over my lens
    • The issue was that I did not spend enough time using each grit pad and that I did not apply any sealer/clear coat after using the kit
    • Does not comes with UV protected clear coat, so make sure you buy a separate product to protect your restored headlights.
    • If you take your time and do a thorough job with the sanding, they come out excellent every time, with or without the clear coat.
    • Quick Headlight Clear Coat once it comes
    • Once I applied that protective coat is when it became crystal clear

    • The sun damage on the lenses are the result of the sun baking the UV clear coat applied during manufacturing
    • After getting to the final step and using the 3m rubbing compound the headlights still look a bit foggy, I believe it said to seal it with the clear coat thats not
    • Make sure you apply a uv clear coat to the headlight after using this restoration kit to help keep the lenses clear.
    • After my first polish I still have (from my approximation) about 3-5 applications on both head lights left, so this kit should last me a year or two if I put on the clear coat protection layer
    • the "SYLVANIA - Headlight Restoration UV Block Clear Coat - Most Important Step to Restore Damaged Headlights, Surface Activator, UV Protection for Clearer Headlights - 1 Fl Oz " Kit

    • that's what you're doing scratching off the UV yellowed clear coat
    • Both the kit and clear coat had excellent product reviews and anyone with a modest drill like mine, some masking tape, and the ability to read the great instruction sheet in the 3M kit can make this happen, but if you want more help, there are great online videos to watch as well.
    • Look just like New again, make sure to get protection top coat for final result.
    • So i started first with the 500 grit paper on a drill and sanded until the powder i was removing was white vs the old yellow clear coat

    • My only critcizm is they do not include a clear coat finisher in the pkg.
    • I only rated the kit 4 stars because they don't supply a protective coating that would make the results last longer
    • Clear coat doesn't come in this 3M kit, but a good clear coat adds the like-new sparkle and protection after you've gotten rid of what was hazing your lights.

    • Nice to get the clear coat wipe with it as well
    • The day I applied the clear coat, it was sunny, but after 4 hours I had finished the job, it started raining

    • that's what you're doing scratching off the UV yellowed clear coat
    • Total time from I went out to clean the headlights, till I was all done, 2 protective coats, cleanup etc: 1 hour 45 minutes.

    • Added a layer of uv-proof clear coat ($3.44 on Amazon) at the end for longevity
    • I am uploading 3 pictures, before and after the kit, and then a final one after I applied a protective coat and had removed the masking tape etc

    • I recommend purchasing the clear coat up blocker to apply after.
    • Clear coat sold separately.
    • What bothered me the most is that despite letting the lenses sit in the garage for a whole weekend to let the clear dry, just handling the lenses to reinstall them back in the car, I noticed the clear coat already flaking off in places.
    • Highly recommend sealing it with the 3M clear coat kit after it looks great and was very easy to apply.

    • Does work to about 90% clarity but needed a separate clear coat protection (I used Meguiar's G17804 Keep Clear Headlight Coating - also available on Amazon) to eventually bring out the full clarity
    • It kinda did what it had to I’d suggest switching out the wipes for a clear coat since the wipes leave very ugly streaks used them on my 05 avalanche been in Cali all it’s
    • You also will need to purchase a protective coating to protect from UV.

    • Took me 2.5 hours on light 1, 15 minutes on light 2 (keep the clear coat like a foot away when spraying, I was done in 20 on light 1, went too close on finishing clear coat, it ran and glossed over, spent nearly 2 hours removing it then started over)
    • so I had to remove that off before I could put this one on and in order to do that I needed about a 240 grit to remove the old spray paint which was a clear-coat

    • The only thing I wish they would include is a UV clear coat for the headlights once you finish
    • However, as an extra measure to hopefully extend the life of this restore, I will be applying Sylvania’s UV clear coat to protect the lens
    • [I don't want to be that A-hole giving people retina damage, especially those driving low sports cars, like my daily driver.]I considered giving only 4 stars because the company does not offer a protective coating for UV damage that I could find, only a wax (sell more kits that way?)

    • This kit leaves some fine visible scratches and depends on the clear coat to hide them, so now your lights are clear only as long as the coating lasts
    • But after using the 3000 grit pad, they looked better than before I started, and this was before applying the clear-coating
    • This kit also comes with new clear coat you apply when

    • Does what it says,a t a good price
    • didn,t work well at all
    • n’t think they’d clear up
    • Lenses were clouded by original factory coating which was chipping off and clear in some spots, sanded down entire lens with provided pads, I frequently beat dust out of sanding pads and wiped lense surfaces down with clean t-shirt rags because build-up of dust in grit happens quickly and will mar the work.
    • n’t regret it.
    • n’t work I would go for something that has buffing compound and buff
    • n’t b disappointed
    • n’t believe how well this product worked
