    3M 39008 Headlight Lens Restoration System

    • The clear coat finish is very durable, and the two together are a great solution.
    • Rich, clear finish when I was all through with the steps.
    • It is more work but the end result is a near perfect finish
    • So when I was finished, that portion was clear but the rest of light now looks a bit hazy.

    • I also bought the 3M UV protectant wipe for treatment afterwards - a definite must to give it a consistent, shiny finish and protection after polishing
    • Ended up giving up on the idea as i could not get the proper finish described in the instructions provided, with the quantity of sanding discs provided

    • 3M's kit comes with a lens UV and oxidation protection solution which you apply at the end of the process where the Macguire comes with PLASTIX which is a version of rubbing compound intended for plastic which gives you a cleaner finish than the 3M as PLASTIX is the equivalent of a ultra fine sandpaper thus giving a clearer lens look but without the oxidation protection.
    • After i was finished, i didn't get the clarity i wanted, so i went over it with rubbing compound a few more times.
    • If you want a clearer finish you will need a few finer sanding pads then what is provided in the kit
    • In this "ultra" product, you then wipe a clear coat pad which spreads a clear finish over the lenses which effectively hides any remaining scratches and is supposed to protect the lens.

    • Basically you will work your way up increased grit sizes until you have a super smooth finish
    • To get a really perfect finish a couple more of each grit would do the trick

    • If you have never polished, buffed or sanded plastic or metal using a power tool then I strongly recommend not only using the instructions exactly as shown or practicing on a different piece of plastic.
