• Reviews around drive (1.23 of 5)

Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" Full HD IPS, Intel i7-7700HQ CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1060-6GB, VR Ready, Red Backlit KB, Metal Chassis, Windows 10 64-bit, G3-571-77QK

    • And the extra hard drive is pretty easy to add
    • Received the laptop and all was good until I decided to install a secondary hard drive
    • Bad screen bleed, would not recognize the 1tb hard drive that came with it
    • When I received it, I immediately cleared the hard drive and reinstalled windows as I wanted it, to ensure I didn't have to deal with any pre-loaded crap software, and since then it's been great.
    • its sticking out of the hole once you open the tray that exposes the empty hard drive bay
    • but when i received the new one i found that its seal is broken and the Hard drive mounting kit was missing
    • Every youtube review for this unit explicitly expresses that it comes with a hard drive caddy and cable for me to expand its storage
    • Installed the hard drive today, no problems
    • You take out one screw, and you have access to the optional space for a second hard drive
    • However the write speeds seem comparable to that of a more conventional hard drive.
    • The laptop came without the caddy/mount to install the hard drive in
    • So I was really happy that I had to not only drop more money on a real hard drive, but also on a service to help me with the steps that they should have known how to do
    • Just make sure you don't almost accidentally throw out the screws provided with the laptop for the hard drive caddy like I did lol!The screen isn't as bright as my old
    • Storage is a little too light, but adding a second hard drive was easy enough
    • Missing the hard drive mounting kit.
    • Very happy with this purchase on a budget even with the added hard drive cost
    • While the original laptop could have worked, we could not attach the two TB hard drive that came in the bundle with it due do having no connecting cord
    • I love it couldn't be anymore happy ive been able to install my spare hard drive into the computer with no issue and load everything off of that freeing my computer up to keep the performance
    • However, the 2nd place to install the SSD/HDD drive is missing a hard drive caddy and SATA connector
    • So do not buy with the hard drive package.
    • I chose this one because of how easy it was to add a second 2TB hybrid hard drive to it for $90
    • Added hardware:I also purchased the Seagate Firecuda 2TB internal hard drive, which I was able to install with ease thanks to the convenient door on the bottom of the computer
    • 2.5-Inch Notebooks / Laptops Internal Hard Drive (ST2000LX001) and it works perfectly
    • The laptop can pretty much run any games, but storage is not enought for games so you may want to buy a hard drive
    • Wish it had a more hard drive space, that is my only complaint
    • Notebooks / Laptops Internal Hard Drive (ST2000LX001) which I picked up at the same time, and it has worked brilliantly
    • In the photo attached, there should be a nice little cable there allowing you to insert a 2.5 inch hard-drive of your choice in storage below
    • I ordered a 1 TB internal hard drive to put in the extra 2.5" bay, but when I tried to install it I realized that my computer didn't come with a secondary hard drive caddy, and so far I haven't been able to find one online
    • The laptop is very good, but didn't come in the slot of the secondary hard drive disk the caddy
    • The computer does allow a second hard drive to be put in, and for example I installed a very cheap Kingston drive and that averages about 300 to 400 MB per second.
    • Performance is very good, but the 2nd hd drive place missing sata cable and cover
    • over heats, they didn't send me screws for my hard drive.. i honestly have never given a bad review but this laptop sucks
    • Hard drive caddy and SATA connector was included
    • another hard-drive(agianwtf)i contacted
    • Despite the advertised documentation on Acer's website, the laptop does not ship with a 2nd Hard drive caddy or SSD Sata cable.
    • Much like others that have been posting about this issue as of late, the SATA connector and hard drive brackets were not included with the laptop.
    • The bracket and SATA cable were included for the 2nd hard drive bay,and installing a second hard drive was really easy
    • The 1060 on this is beast, has plenty of RAM to handle your games at 16 gigs and upgradable to 32 of course, the newest gen i7 is snappy, the SSD it comes with flies but is a bit small at 256GB, luckily there's another slot for a hard drive, SSD or Solid State Hybrid Drive (SSHD) like I added
    • Only reason it's not 5 stars is because this laptop comes with no hard drive so be prepared to waste another 60 bucks or so on a hard drive.
    • You'll need a second hard drive to store your games.
    • I needed an SSD as the boot drive (I was not going to settle for a Hard Drive for boot), needed to have at least 16gbs of ram which seemed hard to
    • The bottom of the laptop includes two ports for adding a 2.5" hard drive and more RAM
    • the main hard-drive is small and makes a 2nd drive a must, also the computer needed some tweaking out of the
    • missing.1 Star off due to there not being a cable for the extra hard-drive installation
    • there was neither a HDD caddy, nor a SATA cable to connect the hard drive to
    • Acer is selling a 2nd hard drive that is unusable.
    • there was neither a HDD caddy, not a SATA cable to connect the hard drive to.
    • The only negative I can give this laptop is that it didn't come with the bracket for a 2nd hard drive.
    • Yes the laptop doesn't bring the hardware but if you buy the right hard drive, it will come with everything you need
    • I purchased this laptop with the intentions of installing the 2tb Seagate hard drive that came bundled with it only to find out that the bracket and cable for the second drive are missing
    • I just bought a Predator Helios 300 and a secondary hard drive from Amazon, but to my surprise when I opened the
    • well overall it’s a good laptop for gaming runs good but if you order it you’ll have to get parts that didn’t come with the laptop and install anothe hardrive because the one that comes with it is only 500 GB mine was missing both part and the screws to install it and know I have to take it to someone who know how to work these computors becaue for me to add another hard drive I have to do a lot of fragile work
    • No one wants to install stuff and then have to transfer it to the new hard drive, so Iv basically wasted my money over nighting it since I have to wait on the kit
    • I had a hard drive caddy and believe that that issue of the missing ones has been cleared up by now.
    • Second hard drive which can't use?
    • The SSD is an M.2 drive, not the fastest drive out there, but still faster
    • Awesome laptop, I highly recomend buying the package with the additional hard drive space, 250gb of ssd isnt enough but it works alright.
    • Missing Hard Drive caddy and Cable,Contacted Acer support and they put me onto a supplier who expects me to pay a extra $100 for the replacement part that was not with the unit to begin with,
    • The second hard drive installed and all games are on the machine, every one of them is running at Ultra settings without issue.
    • The first was that they did not send me the casing for a second hard drive I had to call them up and have them send it to me, this is something that is supposed to come automatically
    • This gaming laptop come with SSD 2.5 hard drive or SSD PCI ?
    • Without those two parts, you cannot install the new hard drive!
    • You'd think this wouldn't be an issue on a thousand dollar laptop but here I am staring at an empty hard drive bay
    • I picked up a 2 TB hard drive and 32 meg of memory, and replaced my aging ROG.
    • I just bought a Predator Helios 300 & a secondary hard drive from Amazon, but to my surprise when I opened the
    • and I absolutely love it, but I do recommend you consider getting an additional hard drive for it as I did, as it does come with an extra 2.5" slot on the bottom to put an additional drive in it, which I ended up throwing my old 500gb PS4 hard drive in, which was an extremely easy thing to do since they made a simple door on the back that comes off after just removing one screw and is super easy to do yourself, just don't forget to make sure the hard drive you put in it is already formatted or empty, as I forgot to erase all my old PS4 data off the one I put in it, and ended up having to go into the Disk Management settings and delete all the partitions (save files essentially) one at a time before the computer would even recognize the hard drive, but once I deleted all of the partitions, it easily recognized it
    • Along with the laptop I purchased a 1TB firecuda hard drive
    • Fantastic game computer ,and I have space for 2 hard drive
    • TB drives are cheap(under $100) and I happened to have a spare 750gb not being used,
    • As a result you may have to do some sketchy maneuvering and put in a hard drive with only three screws or drill some of the screws out.
    • Yes, the hard drive is small relative to other options
    • Unfortunately, it didn't come with the 2.5" hard drive caddy.
    • We were then sent a second replacement which turned out to have the same problem as the original laptop, again, no connecting cord for the two TB hard drive
    • Meets all specs and yes came with bracket and cord to put in additional hard drive
    • Additionally, it does not ship with the Hard Drive Caddy for installation of a secondary HDD
    • I read the reviews about this and I checked when I received my laptop and didn't have the hardware to mount the 2TB hard drive that I purchased
    • MB Cache 2.5-Inch Hard Drive (ST2000LX001)
    • I did come across a few hiccups (regarding the missing hard drive caddy/mount
    • Also, it only came with 4 of the 8 screws you need to mount another hard drive
    • Since I had a few days to test the laptop while I was awaiting delivery of the hard drive kit, I played some World of Warships and virtual reality games using Vive.
    • Def get a gaming mouse and hard drive though because the 256 ssd just isn't a whole lot.
    • but it was an annoyance as I had purchased a 2nd hard drive in expectation of the laptops arrival.
    • I'm in the process to get everything for a repair if possible and backing up my hard drive to an external hard drive to have Amazon/Acer look for it.
    • Yes the laptop doesn't bring the hardware but if you buy the right hard drive, it will come with everything you need
    • My biggest complaint is the hard drive size
    • Easy 2.5" drive install
    • Both the SSD and SSHD are very fast drives, so startups are lightning quick and apps open just about instantly
    • 16gb ddr4, a solid state drive, and an invidia 1060 for less than a grand? Here is the problem: within a day of owning this product I have had nothing but BSOD crashes when attempting to game
    • I installed a 600 GB hard drive in less than 10 minutes, counting the time spent repartitioning the drive
    • I had to purchase an external hard drive to even really start downloading anything.
    • I had watched a video of someone easily installing the hard drive into another Helios 300.
    • They also sent me the hard drive kit very quickly.
    • Frustrating that this new laptop is missing the 2nd hard drive cable and now have to open the laptop to install.
    • Runs everythign i could ask for, the only downside is if you are a big gamer you may want another hard drive
    • Bought it on their deal day, this and a 2TB second hard drive for less than $1k
    • The bracket and SATA cable were included for the 2nd hard drive bay,and installing a second hard drive was really easy
    • However, the one I received did not come with the hard drive cable or the hard drive caddy installed in the drive bay.
    • 1 month after receiving this computer the hard drive crashed
    • - there is a free kit you can get from Acer for installing an extra hard drive
    • Just received this today 09/06/2017After updating everything I went to go put in an extra hard drive but the hdd caddy & ribbon are missing
    • Of course it arrives without the hard drive mounting bracket
    • 2-fold: they don't seem to include a drive caddy if you want to add a hard drive, so you'll have to have acer send one to you for free
    • I bought this thinking that it was a good value especially if you get a another hard drive to install
    • We opened the hard drive bay - no hard ware
    • 65.Mine also came with the 2nd hard drive screws and hardware and also let me upgrade straight from 1.10 to 1.3
    • The problem with this bundle that Acer is selling via Amazon is that the 2nd drive is not installed and the laptop itself is missing the necessary components to mount it.
    • Missing Sata connector for adding hard drive
    • and I hope acer resolve this or at least put the necessary components on Amazon for sale to at least allow us to use the hard drive compartment because in my case it’s there for no reason at all.
    • I also purchased https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M1NHCZT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1A 2TB hard drive and easily installed it for that large gaming library, music and movie library to reside
    • I have no idea how I managed to buy a computer that has no hard drive space
    • Then, if you are lucky enough to get Acer to ship you the missing parts, you have to actually disassemble the entire laptop to install the 2nd hard drive SATA cable and connect it to the motherboard.
    • Once I get the screws and can install hard drive I ordered as a bundle from Amazon (HINT - if you ordered the bundle or are going to order the extra HDD bundle, might as well call Acer and get the process rolling to order your bracket - AND also don't forget to order the screws for the bracket, since apparantly you have to specify that as well
    • Now this review WOULD have gotten 5 stars if I hadn’t run into one problem: a month after receiving this laptop, I had decided to purchase a secondary hard drive (the 2.5” 2TB FireCuda hybrid gaming drive) so I can add more games since most of the ones I play are 60+GB
    • When installing new hard drive, you have to format (from windows control panel) the disk in order for the windows to see it.
    • Very disappointed the hardware was not installed inside the unit for the second hard drive
    • I have installed the Graphics Drive available on Nvidia's website for the 1060, updated windows to its latest version, updated my BIOS through Acer's support website as one of the reviewers have suggested, and still saw no visible improvement
    • So far I have had little to no issues, I bought a 1 tb firecuda hard drive along with it and use it mainly for gaming, I run most the games on high or ultra, people on reviews might complain about the
    • first, it was shipped without the secondary hard drive caddy and cable
    • The picture is smooth, the power is amazing and the ability to upgrade memory and hard drive is great
    • HARD DRIVE CRADLE
    • The aluminum caddy and hard drive cable were missing
    • When I received it, I immediately cleared the hard drive and reinstalled windows as I wanted it, to ensure I didn't have to deal with any pre-loaded crap software, and since then it's been great.
    • I see in these reviews is the "small" hard drive
    • And the extra hard drive is pretty easy to add
    • but if you would contact customer service through Acer's website, they'll send you the necessary items for your hard drive
    • I got my laptop and the internal FireCuda additional hard drive and decided to install the hard drive before I start using my new laptop
    • The only downside here is that it comes with a very paltry 250GB SSD Hard Drive, and I would highly recommend getting another SSD of at least 500GB to put in the provided extra hard drive slot.
    • A small heads up, when you order this contact acer to get a sata cable for your 2nd hard drive
    • First off, let's address the biggest issue that plagued this product on Amazon in recent months, which was the fact that the optional additional hard drive slot didn't have the cord connection or piece to store the drive in
    • Went to install second HDD and discovered there is no hard drive bracket and no ribbon cable installed in laptop (it is advertised as having both already installed).
    • The boot time with the SSD is spectacular and I love having the 1tb hard drive, I think it is odd that you have to install it yourself
    • Per Acer's instructions, I requested a hard drive installation kit.
    • In the photo below is where you would be installing your hard-drive
    • The Laptop works great, but there is no hard drive carrier or SATA port installed
    • It was still missing a hard drive cage and cable
    • from the device management page as well as formatted the 2nd hard drive
    • The laptop is just perfect, gaming and overall experience is good, but I couldn't add a hard drive ?
    • However, when I opened the hard drive bay I found that it was missing the bracket and the SATA cable to even connect one
    • The second laptop that arrived, was missing the extra Hard Drive Kit and connections needed for me to install my extra hard drive, therefore, i had to contract Acer support to have them ship the kit to me
    • You can order a hard-drive installation kit as it's part of the warranty included so that you may install your drive yourself
    • The only thing I would definitely suggest getting a second hard drive
    • - FASTMine is the G3-571-77QK and it had the cable installed in the chassis for additional hard drive.
    • I've ordered the 2gb fire hard drive and look forward to installing and using it.
    • Hard drive is small but I used an external
    • Got a 4T gaming hard drive to supplement, the low 300gb hard drive this laptop sports.
    • I did buy a 2TB hard drive and installed it by myself without ever having done something like that before.
    • You have to install your own secondary hard drive as 256 GB is not going to be enough
    • Will be installing a second hard drive in the next day or so.
    • Will add a second hard drive and I crease ram to get more out of it but only because it has made me an addict for speed.
    • It’s a very responsive laptop that allows room for a secondary slot to insert another ssd or hard drive
    • I also wanna mention that the hard drive caddy and the sata cable were included with my laptop unlike most of the reviews that i've seen here
    • Not only that, I would have to buy a external hard drive or large USB stick to transfer everything
    • When I came to install the hard drive, there was no caddy or came to be found
    • He had never heard of this "mounting bracket for an addon hard drive", he spent forever asking supervisors and co-workers and searching in the system
    • Adding a Hard Drive is pretty much a necessity if you plan on installing multiple games, as they can run near 60 GBs these days
    • Didn't have the overheating issue some people have, but maybe that's because there was a huge open spot inside the case where the hard drive would normally be.
    • They made is really easy to access the second hard drive bay and the ram.
    • how come there is No hard drive
    • I was able to extend my hard drive capacity to a 1tb hard drive with no problems
    • Received my extra drive today, popped open the hard drive slot and a brace is already installed.
    • Installing the cable does require removing the entire bottom cover of the laptop, but once the cable is installed, it is not necessary to remove the cover again if you ever need to replace the SATA hard drive, although you do have to remove it to replace the m.2 SSD
    • I did purchase an additional hard drive since the base SSD is pretty small and you will run out quickly
    • Warning to buyers-- the hard drive mounting bracket and SATA HDD connector were missing in mine.
    • But I probably have the same issue as many others who didn't get a hard drive caddy and related components
    • When this laptop arrived, it was missing the hard drive bracket, cable, and screws to install a SATA hard drive
    • But the laptop’s hard drive installation slot has no wrap for the hard drive and no cable connector for the hard drive what the hell
    • Note: In some reviews people did receive the hard drive caddy and extra cable
    • For the price, which was $1049 plus $77 for a 2TB hard drive, it definitely beats out some of the competitors that we have in our
    • Would recommend this to everyone (but budget $150 for a hard drive expansion).Pay
    • High-end specs, but missing some of my old favorites (DVD drive, big storage,
    • I and multiple other people have stripped a screw while trying to take the hard drive caddy out to put in a hard drive, and when I called Acer about it they said they won't cover it because even though the laptop was assembled really
    • If you need more storage than what's included in the base model, I would recommend this drive
    • Awesome performing laptop, great value, great build qualityOne huge con:Does not include the Hard Drive Caddy or sata cable to the motherboard (quite dumb)
    • It took me 30 minutes to install the hard drive cable; 5 minutes to unscrew the 17 screws and remove the two doors on the bottom of the case, 15 minutes to remove the bottom using Acer's directions, 5 minutes to locate and plug in the cable, and 5 minutes to snap the bottom back on the laptop and install the 17 screws
    • The only negative has nothing to do with the laptop: the hdd caddy & sata ribbon for the second hard drive are not included
    • If the thought of picking out, buying and installing a hard drive into a laptop yourself makes you nervous, don't buy this computer
    • SSD/Hard Drive: 6/10
    • Arrived with missing caddy for the 2nd hard drive
    • The screws to attach the bracket to the hard drive actually were in the original laptop box, but the screws for attaching the bracketed hard drive to the case -not there
    • That said, Windows 10 has done a better job than expected for some of my old games (the smallish hard-drive means you are probably going to want to pick-and-choose what you have loaded)
    • It boots up super fast and is super easy to install a second hard drive
    • I did add a second hard drive to mine to create more storage space
    • i5-7600K32GB DDR4-2666SATAIII SSD (for OS and steam library)It is worth noting that the 256GB hard drive is an M.2 SATAIII drive.
    • and I had backed up my data on my removable hard drive using acers software, which didn't work when it came to backing it up
    • : there's been a lot of confusion about whether or not the laptop comes with everything it needs to accept a second hard drive.
    • I bought this laptop about 4months ago, great laptop for its price, but i had a huge problem, the ssd in just 4 months broke down, had to orded a new hard drive to be able to use it
    • but it was without caddy HDD and without SATA hard drive cable
    • The boot time with the SSD is spectacular and I love having the 1tb hard drive, I think it is odd that you have to install it yourself
    • Somewhat up-gradable with a second hard drive bay, ram up-gradable to 32gb,
    • Easy to upgrade hard drive and memory, takes like 3 minutes to take a couple screws out pop in the new hardware and close it up
    • And to think Amazon offers it with a second hard drive for buyers to install.
    • The only downside here is that it comes with a very paltry 250GB SSD Hard Drive, and I would highly recommend getting another SSD of at least 500GB to put in the provided extra hard drive slot.
    • First, I pay to have it over sent night to my house along with an extra hard drive
    • Laptop is great, but it didn't come with the caddy or cable to install a second hard drive
    • Was missing the required cables inside to install the hard drive Amazon suggested to bundle with the machine, after 2 weeks with no ETA from Acer on when the cable would be sent
    • I really enjoyed id
    • Amazing I bought mine with 1tb hd easy to install runs everything at high-ultra 60fps
    • The screen is not the best and it does not support V-Sync
    • Sometimes it can get pretty dim during night time in GTA V in no light environment, but it's still acceptable as long as you max out the brightness
    • (Acer Aspire E 15) was a noob compared to this beastly computer
