I have been playing bass for a year and a half (pretty much an intermediate level player) and if I would have known that a preamp like this could make my tone so sweet, I would have bought it with my first bass.

Using standard EQ by rolling off the bass and highs while boosting the mids, sweeping the frequency allows that boost to increase presence, attack, or body.
I've found that rolling significantly off the highs and boosting low-mids with just a little bit of gain provides good results

I would consider these settings a 'grumpy' distortion tone, a little bit of splat on the attack and slight drive on the sustain
