after talking to a few Korg-loyal producer friends of mine they assured me the Tom Cat, while different was a better designed drum machine than the Rhythm Wolf.
For the price, the Tom Cat is a good bargain, especially since it's an analog machine
The Tom Cat may be useful for a live drummer keyboard player in a mostly traditional rock band that has a song with an electronic pattern that they may want to tweak the sound live as it plays
Once programmed, the Tom Cat would work well in a live situation where you may want to add a beat to an existing song or even tie this in with something like the Akai Rhythm Wolf that creates analog synth sequences and tweak the knobs as much as people can stand it

It looks to me like the quality is very nice, and that it is a well built machine
Overall build quality is very nice, and is has a nice heavy feel to it when you pick it up
The build quality of this machine is quite nice with every part of the construction from the pads to the knobs to the metal and plastic casing feeling very solid.
The knobs are decent quality and the pads are fine and the plastic wood grain side panels are a nice throwback although definitely not as nice as real wood, which couldn't be used for cost cutting reasons
