I'm using my smart phone app for my Fire TV for now.

this is the ONLY choice you have for controlling your Fire TV besides your TV remote (if it syncs to Fire TV) or the equally horrible smart-phone app

While I used the remote app waiting for my new remote to arrive, which by the way, was back ordered, I found the remote app to be cumbersome

As for the remote app, it works mostly as far as navigation and apps, however it done me crazy the other day because when using the app it would click on certain menus but wouldn't actually open said menus

Recently, I lost the other remote, leaving me with the option of trying to use the unresponsive remote app or using my broken remote... for young kids trying to play games without an up button, it's hell

and the app works but is annoying to have to open up all the time

Download the app on your phone it works much better and costs $0!

We have the app on our phones but we would really prefer to use the actual remote because the phone app won't stay logged in, and you have to wake your phone up, etc

For the broke college students such as my self don't waste your time calling customer service if you had the tv for more than a year; get the app it works perfectly
