Amazon is slipping on some critical smart home features like sharing Amazon devices and routines
Very easy to install compared to some other Smart Home items.
It will not work with Google Home or other smart home system.
We built a home and had smart lights put in all our cans, inside and out, and our tv works with Alexa.?We quickly fell in love with this control of our lights and added these plugs for several indoor plugs, mostly lights
This is a fun little item, our first foray into the "smart plug" world
Very easy to install compared to some other Smart Home items.
I am still able to go through the process of setting it up and adding the plugs to the app, meaning the items themselves are not the issue, but they simply aren’t communicating with amazon to function
No problems with wifi connectivity - just randomly stop working once in a long while.
A smart plug the works with Alexa and all you have to do is plug it in
unresponsive."I read various articles on this problem, all of which seemed to involved unplugging/resetting my router repeatedly...which is stupid, since my router is working perfectly well with every other WiFi device in my home (a phone, two tablets, and two Rokus), and having to reset my router repeatedly is also not an actual solution; it's what tech support tells people when they want to get rid of them
A weak work around is to create many routines to turn the plug on.....
The smart plug works in conjunction with Alexa very well.
worked as it should about two times then went back to not turning the light off with the routine.
Since others have managed to setup the Amazon plug, I'll stick with a 1 for the product (it appears that the device itself was working) and 0's for software auto-detection, incorrect setup instructions, and failure to clearly specify 2.4G only, compatibility
I keep getting an "unknown failure" and no connection.
The item keeps showing unknown failure every time I try to install
Also...the Alexa app is ponderous and aggravating as to how it handles scheduling of activities.
By using her it prevents trips and falls as well as bruises and injured toes from running into furniture in the darkness.
no more walking into a dark room and tripping on something.
Pushing Octogenarianism here, so these things save potentially lethal trips down stairs to cut lights, fans, coffee pots, crock pots, A/C's, space heaters, etc., on or off from elsewhere
I figured that perhaps they needed a static IP so I attached each of them to two static IPs
So, I guess these aren't as reliable as I though
Others had me going in and changing my firewall/port settings, or having to assign static IP addresses to the plugs, which I refused to do out of principle.
I can accomplish these tasks, but these devices are supposed to be made for your average home user who thinks a "port" is a place to dock a ship, and has never heard of "DHCP" or a "static IP address
Set plugs to static IP address, rebooted router and modem, and reinitialized plugs.
