We all have many different devices that can use a good wireless signal.

Now with this Amped Wireless ATHENA-R2 High Power AC2600 router, I get great signal not only for the entire house but also for my driveway and the backyard, through walls and floors

It used to be the very end bedrooms were not covered well, but I get a strong signal everywhere now, including on my formerly signal-dead patio

Manufacturers are pushing these cutting edge devices with promises of faster speeds and better range

The coverage is good and the speeds, well, seemed about as fast as my previous modem

In total, this is about a 2,000 sq/ft area, and all neighbors say they get great coverage and speed in every apartment

MU-MIMOYou have to remember that these advertised speeds leverage MU-MIMO (multiple user, multiple input, multiple output) which is a newer technology that requires BOTH the router and your main device (whether your xbox, playstation, tablet, iphone, etc) to also support MU-MIMO technology

If you've got a media heavy home, with lots of Youtube watching, online gaming, Netflix, etc then you could benefit from a top-end product like this

Additionally, I think the slim profile that this unit presents is easier on the eyes than some of the giant router boxes (especially if this is going to be visible somewhere).All in all, it's a great router at a price point just lower than the top end TPLINK routers.

But I do appreciate how easy it was to set up, and the effective performance

I've found the AMPED wireless to be extremely stable and fast often running for multiple months at a time with top notch performance

Even though the switch worked fine with my other router and is essentially a simple dumb switch as there's no management at all for it

We turned down the power (50%), tightened up the security (turned off the things we were not going to use) and moved some of devices that connect on 2.4 GHz over to 5.0 GHz bands for better management (move them to less used channels).One note here

The only thing I like about it is that it gives you all of the settings in a more technical way instead of a user friendly way that newer smart routers use now

You'll still benefit without the adapters but if you understand the protocol and why MU-MIMO is so effective, you'll really want to get some.

Even the new iPhone 7 doesn't support the three-band MU-MIMO that this router supports.

We are using this to replace a competitor's router/Amped touch-screen extender combo and we have good, full house coverage.

The setup is a bit more complex and the interface not as user friendly

As I said, the setup is a breeze, but more importantly is the functionality and that has been stellar thus far

Despite my ineptitude, setup of this product was really easy, and after about 20 minutes I was ready to go

Setup was seamless and simple, and I had no trouble whatsoever (though they did include a paper saying to call their 800# if you have any trouble at all)

Super easy setup with the install wizard, but the advanced-user setup is almost as intuitive if you have basic understanding of LAN structure

If they brought the firmware up to more modern standards this would easily be a 5 star router - but the fact they advertise its MULTIPLE DEVICE advantages but it can't manage multiple devices of the same type is why I would NOT recommend this product.

I informed the tech that other routers (and even older amped wireless routers) allowed you to open ports through UPnP settings and was then told "The router you have has the same UPnP features as our other routers, you either have enabled or disabled" - which is an outright LIE.I gave this unit 2 stars because it DOES have incredible range and is extremely fast.

I had to buy a powered switch with my old router, which only had 2 ports- a lot of the modern routers are putting fewer ports on the devices, but this one has 4.It has activity lights

Once Amped works out the dropped network issue, this will be a great router.

I don't think I've ever had a router this easy to install

but I never seen a router work this bad on the first day

To counter this, I recommend you explore refreshing your router with DD-WRT which is an open-source code for routers and is supported by the internet community at large.
