Still, it has a good reputation and is excellent value for the price.
Asus doesn't have any drivers for it online, only some stupid E and burning software.
i think that the asus dvd player is a good value and would recommend it to any one.
Drive has been working great since installation and has been a great value for the cost.
it makes so much noise when starting to spin up, it is absolutely heart aching as you will think that it is broken and not wanting to spin up and do its job after a few seconds, it does quiet down and perform
Had it for four months now and had zero issues with it, worked perfect straight from installation into my computer and is definitely a great drive for the money.
Very average and had some issues reading some of my exiting burned CDs/DVDs
Nice quality, no issues with my unit, writes and reads perfectly

I use this quite often as I burn music cds for my kid and this drive works great nothing really else to say about
The drive is working great and much more silent compared to junky optical drives I've used in the past.

Cheap, works, probably not super computer worthy but for a budget
I needed to replace an old CD/DVD drive that was starting to fail and this one works great.
There's no need to install any software, you'll get a Windows prompt the first time you play a cd requesting what actions you'd like windows to take any time this type of CD is entered
i really loved this burner till i upgraded to windows 10 and now it's not even registering with the OS at all not even in the device manager with a little yellow icon, and then when i contacted ASUS for a bit of help they told me they aren't supporting windows 10 yet then when i asked them if they had any idea when they would be they rudely ignored the question and disconnected, very disappointing especially after buying so many of their products, so guess i'll just hang on to this and patently wait.need to revise my
The first one I got however was faulty and destroyed my windows 10
Probably only use it to fresh install windows and some occasional CD burning.
It took me less than 5 minutes to install windows in my case and burning discs with itunes are very fast.
They were the top selling +R media on Amazon, thought new drive + new disks would equal success.
Like I mentioned, my 10 year old external drive could burn a DVD DL disc filled to the brim in about 15 minutes, now with this it took over an HOUR AND A HALF to burn a regular DVD R disc that had less than 4GB on it!!
it seems like it's doing any intense R/
That being said, this one is VERY noisy, takes an hour or more to burn, if at all
but when I try to convert videos to a dvd it takes about 2 hours to burn!

The problem with the USB drive: it can be insanely slow to rip a music CD.I installed this Asus drive today and, as mentioned, it does not read some old music CDs - all but one of these old CDs was read by the other drives mentioned
It is used primarily to rip music, and it does a great job
Was ok, easy to install working fine, until today (July 23,2016).I was ripping my music
Put a commercial music CD into it that ripped to iTunes instantly
I enjoy owning physical discs because they work when the internet goes down, and my "movies" don't vanish when a streaming license expires
Asus doesn't have any drivers for it online, only some stupid E and burning software.
I bought this DVD drive for my computer build and I read the reviews, saw some bad ones but the rest were mostly good, I had used a 10 year old PATA (not SATA) big external drive to rip and burn movies
It worked well during the original setup and also was used to rip about 60 movies to a hard drive.
I bought one because sometimes i would need to install drivers, watch movies, burn CDs DVDs, Etc
