You can disable Smart Connect, name the three radios to the same SSID, or name them all to different SSID's, keep the Echos on a Guest network, put them on the SSID's when they're not merged
But I am not using smart connect right now for my network.

When I switched back to 'Smart Connect" the 2.4 Ghz band disappeared again.

Excellent Tech Support (west coast) , along with, easy setup of this fast router
My setup isn't complex but I was using the following features if someone should want to try and avoid this issue: QoS/Bandwidth monitor, AI protection, Automatic reboot scheduler.
In sum, this router meets all its claims and is a model of easy basic setup

I may think about upgrading to the FIOS gigabit speed to see if that would increase speed sufficiently or if it's the router that is actually throttling the speeds

Can't even use the 5GHZ channel because the speeds are so slow.

fast fast fast signal strength good all over the house.
NETGEAR range extender works with the router but picked up weak signal.
The signal is incredibly weak for a router in this price range, the WPS feature doesn't work at all, half my devices in the home can't see the SSID, etc.
Extremely strong signal throughout the house all the time
Old router's signal was very weak on the 2nd floor directly above the router (in the basement), but the signal was non-existent just 30 away

I've had to resort to disabling the 5Ghz radio all together which makes me very angry.
The two radios are really nice for moving wireless networks around in their frequency spectrums to isolate traffic to clearer frequencies when needed and to keep my public devices (and their congestion) away from my protected and private devices

We have a ton of stuff on our network as well 4 people worth of phones, each with a laptop, 2 echo's 2 google homes, 10 hue lights 4 belkin switches a printer, xbox and a few more
I would give it 5 stars if I wasn't having the same issue as so many other people where the 5g drops as in no SSID broadcasted or if available very unstable at random times requiring a restart
I have researched since then and many people have the same issues
Other people with the same problem report Asus' tech support to be non-existent
It seems like people pay for external antennas without looking at the product

Often times after an abnormal reboot the router will be completely unable to restore internet connectivity until a hard reboot is done by completely cutting power to the device.
Only once did I run into issues getting into the administrative login to the router - a simple reboot cleared that up

The 2.4Ghz will cut out randomly and not function until I do a hard reboot of the router
If you need to do a hard reboot the router using the power button or unplug it, you need to leave it unplugged for at least 2 hours or it will not come back up

So I was a bit skeptical in looking at this Asus router with only 3 antennas
This is by far the best router I have ever tried, it was a little bit difficult to configure at the first time, even for me (Computer Engineer), but once it is configured it works like a charm
In such cases, just split them up manually and set the channel band to 40Mhz, this should boost up your speeds a bit as well
Again A bit expensive for basic users/needs but rocks as your needs increase from there to security and network configuration and control
When I first looked at this router it was a bit more expensive than I had planned on spending
