You will not regret this purchase, and it sounds like amd plans to support this socket for a long time.

If you install Noctua NH U14S TR4-SP3 cooler (the best Threadripper cooler you can buy) you will lose the first PCI-E slot.
Threadripper is such a sensitive build, but once you get it, it's definitely worth it.

While this is probably the best motherboard you can get for x399, If you are planning on sitting a second generation threadripper to it, you may want to wait for the next model (if there will be one) that supports all the new features inside the new second generation chips

Other people have confirmed this issue with other brands of cards as well.- PCI-passthrough is completely broke, likely due to the general PCIe bus problems

so once Asus gets their crap together and supports NVMe
First mobo had defective DIMM slots RMA'd it via Amazon, 2nd one was fine though still with RAID limitations - does NOT support NVMe (M.2), SATA RAID does work but really a PITA to set up as the process was completely redesigned on this model and required a vendor support case escalation to get working.
not the NVMe and Asus support confirmed NVMe is NOT supported at this time and could not provide any confirmation or ETA as to if or when it would be.
Updated BIOS to support raid nvme m.2 drives and running windows with 7gb or 6gb speed

This motherboard looks great and feels great however the screws on the heatsink covering the m.2 slot were over tightened and way too soft of a metal
I have never seen a motherboard so finicky with regards to memory (refused to boot even with QVL memory), or refusing to boot if you even *touch* the expansion slots.
While this is probably the best motherboard you can get for x399, If you are planning on sitting a second generation threadripper to it, you may want to wait for the next model (if there will be one) that supports all the new features inside the new second generation chips
I never had such trouble installing a new motherboard (since 1990s).I emailed ASUS directly through their customer service page and filled out their long form.

Compared to the cheaper ASUS board it is like no other board out there
The board itself it beautifully made, with every component looking sleek and well constructed/protected
In conclusion: Ignore the negative reviews from the people who bought it on the first day, the board is excellent and stable.
I suggest you carefully think before getting involved with this unsupported, buggy board, which you can only get repaired via RMA after it breaks down 2 months after purchase.
