Obviously AT&T skipped this super essential feature to save a few cents

The item works perfectly and has very good features.

Has a lot of nice features but announcements on call screening plays too fast and is garbled

I've been using answering machines for decades and this is the first one with this ridiculous feature.

I do like to have the option to screen my calls through he speaker, and that is one feature VOIP voicemail (like from your cable provider) can not provide

Good basic features

If you're reading this AT&T...PLEASE think about the ridiculous lack of consideration that was made by leaving out this design feature!!In all my years of using answering machine, starting in the 1970's, I have NEVER had a machine that lacked this feature

Love this answering machine - good features and just what was needed, Also very easyto operate.

The machine operated well and was easy to set up with good basic features

It also offers remote review of saved calls which is a good feature.

A nice feature was the 60 minute total recording time on this machine

Some nice features for such a small unit such as: voice announced incoming phone numbers and an intermittent beep when message is received, Takes up very little room.

It was easy to set-up, works fine, has a concise announcement about leaving a message and - BEST OF ALL - it BLOCKS those annoying callers that have blocked their number (you must have caller ID for this feature to work) and tells them it does not accept those calls

Sounds a little bit 'tinny' but does have a nice feature of alerting of a message by beeping until listened to so you don't really have to walk up to it and check

I really like the caller ID feature, except that it calls out the phone number a little too quickly

and I appreciate the alert feature--it will beep constantly if there is a new message (I think you can turn that off).

But the most significant feature I have found on this replacement machine is the location of the microphone for recording your outgoing greeting: it appears as a small (1-mm diameter) hole on the bottom of the machine, hidden in a small detent right beside the left front corner of the machine

I like the functionality of this product and all the features, the beeping to let me know there's a call, the numbered amount of calls.

Obviously, its pricing is so very reasonable; especially, considering all the useful features and full sixty minute recording capacity

This machine is easy to use and has nice features with big, easy-to-understand buttons.

The most annoying feature is the loud crackling on the messages

The feature that verbally gives you the callers number does not work very well

The setup was really simple and the feature are not too overly complex.

Solution is to have this unit set to pick up one ring sooner which negated the 2/4 feature since it needs to be set for 3 rings

Two minor issues I noticed right away were (1) the voice playback on the 1740 is not as clear as on the 1739, and (2) the LED counter on the 1740 is not as large or bright as the 1739.

Everything else worked just fine, but the recorded messages are so fuzzy with static as to be impossible to understand, whether listening on the external speaker or when calling in from a different line.
