If that wasn't enough, the audio quality of the mic is fair at best.
When the radio is used without the speaker mic, the audio quality is quite good.

In certain areas, they don't want you broadcasting over 5W anyway (I know regulations on radio licenses and such for private users are almost never pursued unless someone files a formal complaint) but in my in-scientific tests, the standard UV-5R with hi-gain antennas actually have a better range than the UV-5RTP with the standard antennas, and you can get the standard UV-5R with the hi-gain antennas for less than the RTP version with the standard (or at least you could when I ordered these).
I have not tried the RTP radios with hi-gain antennas, as they already have enough range for my uses.

Again, great radios for the price, but in my opinion, the standard UV-5R are a bigger bargain.
Otherwise, they are the same great UV-5R radios, with the same features, just with a 3rd (higher) power setting.

My scanner occasionally has issues receiving train information, unfortunately the Baofeng might break squelch, but once again you may or may not be able to understand the message being transmitted.

The frequncy of the UV-5RTP radio has been set as 140-150/430-440MHz when it manufactured
In order to use the 136-174/400-520MHz, you need to do the factory reset
Press the Menu button, type '40', and then the radio will be reset.2
Then, please use the the Baofeng official software (Not CHIRP) for programming
It has the page under "other" simply checking the box that says "allow more than 480MHz transmit", and changing the frequency range from 400-520MHz, then click write to radio.3
