• Reviews around antenna (3.83 of 5)

    BaoFeng BF-F8HP (UV-5R 3rd Gen) 8-Watt Dual Band Two-Way Radio (136-174Mhz VHF & 400-520Mhz UHF) Includes Full Kit

    • The antennae is better than the older ones but still may want to step up to the longer one.
    • Come with pretty good antenna to start with decent range
    • This model has more power (though the 8 watts is not all that necessary in most situations), and a better antenna.
    • I'm using a nagoya 771 antenna on it and am impressed as this is a nice
    • Very pleased with radio so far, purchased the 3800Ah battery, programming cable and the NA771 antenna, much easier to setup with the pc&cable
    • Since I purchased a lot of accessories for the older version of this radio, I was very happy to see that I could get expanded power from this model in addition to a better stock antenna
    • Also the short rubber ducky that comes on the BF-F8HP is about 1/3 longer than the one that comes on the UV-5RA and is called a "high gain" antenna
    • Well, the antenna is lousy, but that's no
    • The Nagoya antenna made a big difference as well
    • Supposedly easier to program than the 5 series and a better antenna.
    • I'd recommend to a better antenna - but that's typical...
    • The antenna is even better than some other longer than the included
    • good basic radio, needs a better antenna to be useful
    • The improved rubber duck antenna and the little bit of extra power make it a respectable performer against hand helds double or triple the price
    • -D* Excellent reception with a good antenna
    • Additionally, it arrived missing an antenna.
    • The only problem is the antenna, I use a roof top
    • Then you need a good antenna for base, car or hand held use
    • The only thing it needs is a better antenna out of the box
    • Plastic everywhere, unusual connectors (the antenna is a FEMALE SMA instead of the standard male, etc.) and sloppy design are all over the place
    • This antenna with the 8 watt output is awesome.
    • I purchased a longer/better antenna for it and the stock antenna on this unit outperforms my other HT both in transmitting and receiving
    • The new antenna is definitely superior to the UV5R.
    • This product was shoddy with parts missing, No antenna and a blade from the charger plug was also missing, so I could not even charge the battery to test the radio without its antenna
    • The long "high gain" antenna returns a 1:1.29 SWR whereas the short one that came with the UV-5RA returns 1:1.24 SWR on 444 mhz
    • With adapters, you can listen through more efficient antennas
    • I would recommend a better antenna than the rubber duckie.
    • If say pay half and just get a better antenna with the savings going with the 5r
    • YOU GET A BETTER ANTENNA
    • If you plan to use the BF-F8HP with dual band vehicle and/or base station antennas, be sure to buy a flexible antenna cable to minimize the physical stress on this small radio’s antenna connector.
    • Well, the antenna is lousy, but that's no
    • Programmed via chirp and added gmrs and frc to be able to use around my property, also added ham study flexible antennas to each of them
    • Getting a better antenna just makes it worse.
    • Also recommend an expandable antenna to replace the short included rubber ducky.
    • However, with that said, with a good external antenna, I was able to activate mountaintop repeaters 40 miles away and receivers reported it was intelligible though not achieving full FM quieting.
    • I highly recommend a high gain antenna.
    • This is great to start with just be prepared to spend lots of time--(lots of time twice) on the programming and get the "better" antenna
    • Li-On Battery and charger, a wrist strap, Hi-Gain Dual-Band Antenna and well written English Users Manual
    • Thinking maybe mismatched or poor antenna, I also tried a car antenna with same results in same location... also tried swapping antenna's from UV-5R to BF-F8HP
    • I got it with an aftermarket antenna Authentic Genuine
    • The antenna is terrible on US Amateur radio frequencies
    • Low cost, great range of frequencies, high power, small and compact, large memory, easy to use interface, lockable interface, replaceable antenna
    • Upgraded the antenna and now even better reception (testing on signal strength of weather stations in my area.
    • I would recommend thinking about a longer portable antenna for carrying this around to enhance user capabilities, but the stock antenna is still a good one, so you don't have to.
    • I have another HT and the antenna was worthless
    • You'd be better off buying the UV-5R and putting the savings into a better antenna, like a Nagoya NA-711
    • The antenna and the battery was in the wrong place and it was missing a description card that was included with other purchasers radios that I know.
    • I have a new cable going out to the antenna and the antenna is relatively new and works great with my other equipment
    • But you should buy a better antenna and you're good to go.
    • I also got a programming cable, mike, and hi-gain antenna
    • Everything needed to begin using your radio comes in the box, i would only suggest buying a better antenna.
    • Must have been be a bad antenna connection as there was no difference in reception between antenna on or off
    • Great little radio for the price, and the rx seems much clearer with the improved antenna
    • Order a better antenna to get advertised distance...
    • With a good antenna it holds its own against high end radios for distance
    • My only complaint, once I got it set up with a nice antenna mounted on my roof, I started to notice the sensitivity of the receive started to be an issue
    • Able to hit the repeater easily from 8 miles with an upgraded antenna (highly recommended for almost all handhelds).
    • Works exactly as it is supposed to.
    • Almost as good as my Nagoya 771
    • Only compliant is one power charger failed as it has a cheap connector.
    • Headset foam ripped as I was putting it on the earpiece
    • Works as it should.
    • I do use it when out and about some, and it works as it should
    • Item works as it should.
    • Great radio, works as it should.
    • I've had it for about a month now and it seems to work as it should.
    • n’t had any luck with it
    • Do not bet your life on these if your getting one for bug out or hunting ec t not dependable
    • The flashlight is a little silly and unnecessary, but w/e
