I feel these UV-82's offer a better value by having a wider frequency spectrum over a GMRS radio with limited frequencies.

While I'm no HAM radio expert I do believe these BaoFeng UV-82 radios are an excellent value, relative to other products that I use and comparable HAM radios.
My first impression is that this is a great little radio and is a great value
I'm guessing the radio has increased in popularity as it has suffered from price creep, now at $49 here on Amazon
This radio has a lot of good features including double ptt buttons
The only feature I don't like is turning the radio off and then on again to go from channel to frequency mode
This little dual band radio is packed with some great features like 2 PTT buttons where you can listen to one frequency & talk on another frequency at the same time
All reviews by users and the domestic US vendor discredits this claim with the fact that the battery really is only 1800mA.A very questionable and possibly PITA design "feature" is having to completely turn off the radio to change from VFO mode to memory mode ("frequency" to "channel")
Great product, great price this product its solid easy to program, but the user manual that comes with it is very basic
Great radio, great price - a good first radio for anyone interested in Ham radio.
Cons: not field programmable, no option to power it issuing regular batteries (although you can get an adapter to run it directly from a 12 volt source)Pros: decent range, reception and filtering on par with most big brand HT; can't beat this price

Absolutely great for the PRICE!Doesn't have the best noise rejection, manual is very poor and programming is difficult by hand but buy a programming cable a longer antenna and use CHIRP (free) to program it
There are some, but they are minor, first off, the major problem exists on import of the radio settings, while exporting has worked flawlessly for me every time

The dual band function works very well for me at work as we use UHF and VHF frequencies in different departments.

Great Build quality, feels solid in your hand and battery life if pretty good.
My main purpose for the UV82 will be for Ham use, but I wanted to see how effective the radio was compared to a more expensive high quality radio
The FM reception is of terrible quality, and with poor signal levels, I'm not sure if the later is due to the antenna being for 146MHZ, but it should still work

They are a little longer than the Bao Feng UV5R, which I like as it fits my hand better.
The chore of turning off the radio and holding down the menu button to switch from vfo mode to channel mode is a little pain
Just picked up this radio to replace a Wouxon radio that has known factory defects that they wont fix as well as to replace my Anytone mobile radio that was stolen when my car was broken into and i must i a pleasantly surprised by the quality and function
It just /works/, it works as you'd expect, it feels GREAT, it sounds GREAT, audio reports are GREAT, battery life is /insanely great/ in comparison to the UV-5R, its subtle operating changes to be more efficient than the 5R are

But it needs help in the antenna department, operation and programming is obnoxious, and the manual is useless.
The manual is hard to follow but I used a blog site baofenguv82.blogspot.com to learn the step-by-step programming.

The lack of a button for switching between VFO/MR could be a bit of a drawback if you plan on switching back and forth all the time, but... since this is a commercial radio, I can see that if you lock the radio in the software it won't allow people to mess around with the freqs
It receives with stock shorty every bit as clear as the Uniden 125AT with Nagoya upgrade
All radios will break with improper handling as I've had lots of the M brand in the shop over the years but these hold up every bit as well.
This bit of detail was lacking in the UV-5R product line (though more support sites exist for that model.)Also, this UV-82 series has two PTT buttons, so you can set it up to monitor two repeaters on A/B, selectively scan those stations and unlike the UV-5R, don't have to hit the A/B button switch between frequencies

One dealer (that was removed from Amazon) even went so far as to claim they were the sole U.S. distributor for Baofeng, making all sorts of outrageous claims about how many radios they sold on any given day, how all other U.S. dealers purchased Baofeng radios through them, or even how Baofeng makes radios exclusively for them
Update: had to crack open charger on original radio and clear some contact points of corrosion to get it to work, but now it's golden, a few YouTube videos later on how to use the radio and

The charger didn't work and had to be taken apart and have the 2 copper pads on the PC board cleaned, didn't detract from the quality of the radio though
The included charger works well, and the included earphone mic is useful as well.
Just got it today, radio seems nice and solid, but I have no idea if it works because the charger is messed
