Reviews around quality (5.00 of 5)

  • Reception is clear (assuming reasonable conditions and signal quality) and transmit audio is also clear.
  • For the beginners like me, these are probably the best inexpensive radios with a good quality
  • It feels great in the hand, the receive audio quality is solid and loud, the on-air performance is predictable and pleasant, Baofeng finally included a better antenna, and the dual-PTT option is a must-have for some of us.
  • this is a little work horse, easy to program with Chirp software and cable, and display is easy to read and the sound quality is great both transmit and receive.

Reviews around value (5.00 of 5)

  • I have several Baofeng and Wouxun radios (as well as several Yaesu, Icom and Kenwood) and this is perhaps the best value IMO
  • Great HT, incredible value, the only Baofeng that is actually legal for Ham and Part 90
  • The UV-82C is a great value for the $, and its part 90 approved

Reviews around audio (5.00 of 5)

  • and i get calming sound reports to the repeater, clear audio
  • Great audio, nice weight and appearance, and it appears to sport a better antenna than their ham radio models
  • The speaker, which was a weak point in previous Baofeng designs, now delivers clear audio with plenty of volume.
  • eary to program has a crisp clear audio I can see why some would have a problem with the dual

Reviews around antenna (5.00 of 5)

  • Buy the good fdmi cable and programming software and a better antenna.
  • I purchased the ANLI A-100 base and TRAM 1185 mobile antenna which both work well.
  • UV-82C Works as advertised, I put the NA-177 antenna on it....hitting all my local
  • To be honest, I didn't see a significant improvement over the antenna that came with the radio; so save your money and purchase a nice base and/or mobile antenna.
  • I'd like to see a better antenna for the commercial portions, antenna seems to be tuned for the ham bands and not very good at 160mhz and for hams you can disable the vfo lockout with CHIRP.

Reviews around chirp (4.33 of 5)

  • Very easy to program with the correct cable and the free CHIRP software that is a free download on the web.
  • I highly recommend the free CHIRP software for uploading frequencies.
  • Programming by hand is quite awkward, (as it is for most handy-talkies), so definitely get the USB programming cable and download the free Chirp software off the Internet -- makes things much easier.
  • CHIRP wouldn't work with this radio so I used the Baofeng software
  • However, if you want to use VFO mode, you can use the "daily build" version of the free CHIRP software to enable VFO mode

Reviews around feature (3.61 of 5)

  • Some features are difficult to understand, but if you search the Internet eventually you will find out all you need to know
  • I like the lockable keypad feature so others can not alter the operating parameters.
  • I love the features of this radio and the ease of programming
  • The main reason I'm writing this review is because of one major negative feature: the radio does not fit into the included charging base
  • They have a lot of neat features but sometimes it is difficult to figure out how the features work

Reviews around thing (1.00 of 5)

  • Programming with Baofeng was the most stressful thing about these
  • The only thing that could really be improved on is the lack of an extended battery.
  • The only bad thing is their clam shell uses AAA batteries instead of AA, as most Incidents use AA not AAA Batteries
