For programming all channels I used the FTDI Genuine USB programming cable

I bought an authentic cable for downloading repeater lists and it worked like a charm.

To use the cable, I simply hunted On-Line for the proper USB cable driver for it for use on my Win 7/64 operating system

Making this work with a MacBook without the right cable may have been a challenge, I did not even try and bought the right cable

Actually, I just downloaded the Motorola settings into the Baofengs with their nifty $5 cable

I cant get these to work correctly .I even bought an additional cable to set them up and they still don't work.

You need to spring for the $20 cable on Amazon with the FTDI chip and avoid the cheap Prolific chip cables!)

I recommend the cable to help program but you can learn the keypad after using it.

I had trouble using Chirp on ubuntu and mac primarily because the os doesn't recognize the usb device on the cable unless you get the genuine cable.

It’s a chore to program manually but works just fine with the genuine cable and CHIRP program.

Have used them on Ham bands as well as to monitor fire and police and they work great

Only a wall adapter, battery free with 12V car plug and a strange AAA battery case exists.
