Reception of a signal on your active channel will interrupt broadcast FM radio and put you on the active channel

The high power function of this radio (approximately 7 watts) allows you to access repeaters with much better clarity and range.

After finding out why they did it that way, it was apparent this radio is designed for those who want to monitor and talk on two different channels at once, not a bad feature if it could be turned off easily when it wasn't needed.

** 4/22/16 - Today I received the replacement radio I ordered after returning the defective unit and receiving a refund

It feels right in the hand, and is an excellent back up or unit to use on a daily basis.

This unit is a little hard to field program but with the right book you can do it.

If you are not a HAM and have worked with similar units and your like me you are probably going need to spend a cozy evening reading the operations manual to tutor yourself on all the stuff this unit is capable of.

Decided to avoid that headache and just get my own to avoid getting a faulty unit or being blamed for someone else's carelessness

Only a wall adapter, battery free with 12V car plug and a strange AAA battery case exists.

The issues with the UV-5 were not corrected in this variant, but it is cheap enough and is an effective rig in amateur service once you are familiar with most aspects and issues common to the Chinese radios
