Baofeng UV5RA Ham Two Way Radio 136-174/400-480 MHz Dual-Band Transceiver (Black)

    • and I can hit repeaters 40 miles a way pretty decent
    • It is a really cheap way to get started in the ham radio hobby
    • Plus, CHIRP is a much easier way to program repeater frequencies
    • I have learned the hard way- don't scrimp on the programming cable
    • There is no real nice way to put it, the charger is garbage, trash, poorly made
    • Great way to start off.
    • This is a strong two way handheld and I recommend this to any amateur radio operator, or anyone who enjoys radios!!
    • The price is attractive and eases the way for the new ham technician
    • I admit I am an amateur... a total noobie, but this radio ought to have a better way of programming

    • After using the UV5RA for several months I am very satisfied, this transceiver it is well built and the battery last a long time but there is a learning curve and the best way to learn how to operate is to go on utube
    • I have been in the fire service for 37 years and finally a compact two-way radio/scanner at an incredible price
    • Great two-way radio
    • I like the radio does a great job once you learn how to use it, no way you can rember all the functions
    • Setting the deviation (menu item #5) to wide, using the ear piece/throat mike, and using a real antenna, turns this little radio into an extremely useful and thrifty way to communicate.
    • There are for SURE way nicer radios out there but for this price, you cant beat it
    • Replaced the antenna with a Nagoya NA-771 Antenna purchased at the same time, which greatly improves performance (although less handy due to length). Also used a Two Way Radio Protection Soft Case, which covers the chromed grill which some find objectionable
    • I have ordered and use many now of these great little two-ways for work of all kinds.
    • You may want to add a better antenna but either way, for this price, this radio ROCKS!
    • Nice Basic 2 Way Radio, Beware Need a License To Use .
