To be fair, I've heard their customer support is good and they'll send a replacement part if needed
The customer support from Baratza is first rate!!!!
Top notch grinders are going to set you back well over a thousand dollars, but this is probably the best quality for the money, and their customer support is great

Took a little while to get the grind setting and timing the way I want it, but since then, I haven't really had to adjust.
I tried to perfect my timing, but was never able to consistently avoid having grounds fly about the counter when the portafilter was near full.
Once you do get it dialed in though, the 3 preset run time options are great...just click the preset you want and away you go...perfect every time!I also appreciate the removable hopper
A few things that bothered me in the beginning: very messy grounds all over due to static (I live in Arizona where it's dry always
I love this time and hope it last a long long long time
It did not grind fine enough for a good espresso even one the finest (1A) setting
The most coarse setting gives me a grind good enough for Aeropress, maybe
My only complaint is that I have to set it to almost the finest setting for a 20 second extraction.
I should be able to smear the beans and see almost a film at a really fine grind, but i can't with this grinder- there is still a pretty fair amount of grit at the finest setting, not a fluffy powder like it should
although having trouble getting a really fine grind for espresso- just did 2 shots with it on the finest setting, but it didn't choke the machine, and brewed
On further examination I found that the little cylinder (stop collar) that clamps down onto the steel stem of the portafilter holder is made of relatively poor quality plastic
My previous grinder had a hard plastic ground catcher and over the years it developed a million micro-cracks.

The set screw uses a brass threaded insert and there's only about 1/16" of not-very-strong plastic holding the whole thing together (as you can see in the photos below), so if you put even the slightest excess force on the set screw the collar will definitely break
Although I purchased mine used from a friend of mine, I love its concept, but based on reviews and my friends experience with this grinder I've read, the gearbox is prone to premature break downs due to the use of cheap plastics
My advice is to buy cheap coffee beans to mess around with the grind settings
Just grind three or four beans and make sure the unit actually grinds them
When I unpacked and put the grinder together, and threw some beans in to grind - it wasn't grinding them - at all - not even on the coarsest setting.
I should be able to smear the beans and see almost a film at a really fine grind, but i can't with this grinder- there is still a pretty fair amount of grit at the finest setting, not a fluffy powder like it should
Most people speak of the loudness of the grinder, but it’s a grinder that is grinding beans
