    • We've been putting hot water in the carafe to warm it before starting the coffee.
    • And you are supposed to use cold water in the machine-
    • Does not keep coffee hot for more than an hour even when hot water in it before brewing coffee.
    • One hint: if you use the pot to add fresh water, make sure the lid is on or it not all go into the reservoir
    • It does not keep the coffee warm, even if you follow the directions to pre-heat it by filling it with hot water.
    • seems to disperse the water all over the grounds instead of just dumping it straight down, does not put out a bunch of steam out the back like my previous Mr. Coffee did, and I love how the coffee will stay nice and hot for several hours before it starts to cool down very slightly
    • With the first one we noticed that sometimes water would pool in the filter area and not drain occasionally
    • Wasted water every morning
    • Only downside is you need to rinse the carafe in hot water before brewing to keep the coffee hot.
    • Unfortunately you are advised to heat the carafe with hot water before brewing....which I can’t do while asleep
    • Even if it is pre-warmed with hot tap water as instructed, a half hour later it's time to use the microwave
    • You also need to pre-fill it will hot water if you actually want it to keep the coffee really hot to start
    • We have well water that is pretty hard with minerals so the machine will shut off indicating that it is time to clean it
    • If you like super strong coffee Use less water to make it stronger
    • Dump out the hot water
    • I was a little disappointed to find there wasn’t a heating element under the pot and annoyed at the suggestion that I should fill the canister with hot water prior to brewing it if I wanted the coffee to stay hot
    • Perhaps the basket is the wrong size as the water over flows the grounds.
    • The water in the basket doesn't drain very good either which lets the grounds over flow
    • Sure enough, the water was leaking from the reservoir
    • Preheat the carafe with hot water from the tap, let that sit while you prep the machine
    • There is a suggestion, in the manual, to prefill the pot with hot water from the tap and let it sit while you are getting the filters and the grounds, and filling with cold water.
    • Maybe the water is not as hot
    • Yes, I stood at the sink running scalding hot water in the carafe before brewing it and then ran at the speed of light (hi, Albert) to start the brewing
    • I didn’t understand the recommendation of filling the carafe with hot water before
    • The instructions state to fill the carafe with hot water first, but once brewed is still lukewarm at best

    • We followed all the directions, including the part where they want you to rinse the carafe with hot water to "warm" it up
    • The instructions recommend that the pot be rinsed with hot water before brewing but that is not feasible when the timer is set to have coffee ready when we wake up.

    • Disappointing product the coffee was always just warm even if you filled the carafe with hot water before making the coffee
    • I pour the boiling hot water into the carafe4
    • The instructions on the carafe call for filling it with hot water prior to making the coffee in order to keep the thermos warm longer and discarding the water.
    • Sure they recommend filling the carafe first with hot water to help keep brewed coffee hot but that doesn’t do you any good it you’re programming to automatically brew each morning
    • Instructions say to warm the carafe with hot water
    • there is no heating pad under carafe and one is instructed to warm up carafe by filling with hot water before starting the coffee making.
    • Possibly some kind of clogging issue, or the water is going to fast in to the ground and not pouring it out as quickly
    • Took it out of the box and large sticker on the carafe saying "must fill with hot water to heat
    • I can tell you I wish I had a movie of myself standing there pouring hot water in the carafe so that I’d have some hot coffee for more than a half hour
    • This one has served me well, though I probably should have replaced it about 6 months ago when it became clear that it wasn't heating the water as hot as it used to, and therefore the carafe wasn't keeping it hot for as long as it used to
    • The water gets so hot that it burns the beans and makes a nasty, bitter brew of boot leather that quickly gets more bitter as it sits
    • I do not fill it up with hot water like it suggests
    • They want you to preheat the carafe with hot water... might as well get a pour over if you have to heat water anyway!
    • You will need to steep the carafe with hot water before making coffee.
    • We have very hard water at our
    • After 10 days of struggling since receipt of this coffee maker, I have yet to get the "carafe" to stay hot by following instructions to heat the thing up with hot water prior to brewing as it has no bottom heating element
    • Despite heating the carafe with hot water it still doesn’t maintain a decent temp for very long
    • Im left with with semi warm coffee and water in the water holder.
    • If you want it to stay like warm you have to first fill the carafe with hot water
    • well, this is our 4th one of these in less than 3 years, great coffee pot and works good except when you have hard water, we are lucky to get thru 7 months with one, even cleaning often won't help, then after 5 months the carafe quits keeping the coffee hot as well, but in our rv they work great since we drink about a pot in the am and another at nite, they take up less power since after it is done brewing it shuts off and metal carafe keeps it warm, just sad they don't last longer and price keeps going up
    • The carafe does not keep coffee warm for even hour, even when preconditioned with very hot water.
    • If you preheat the carafe with hot water it keeps the coffee hot for about an hour
    • It doesn't boil the water.

    • The second problem is to keep the carafe warm, as there is no warming plate, you have to fill and dump an entire carafe of hot water out every day to warm it up.
    • Instructions say to warm up the carafe with hot water first
    • so I don't waste water or have to fill pot twice to get it to the right number of cups.
    • The last two were ruined by our hard water
    • Fresh grinds, cool filtered water, fill and go - great coffee in minutes!A hot tip: once the coffee is done brewing, remove it from the brewing position.

    • so it can leak trailing water or coffee down the side of the pot
    • I heat up the pot ahead of time with hot water, but I still find the coffee doesn't stay long more than an hour.
    • Not to mention having to spend time "heating" the pot with hot water before you even can make the coffee
    • you warm it yourself with hot water before the coffee is brewed from the tap.and the only way to empty the carafe is to take the lid completely off to pour our all the coffee
    • I gave this 3 stars just because of having to fill the pot with hot water and then empty to keep your coffee warm

    • Two rinses with a vinegar/water mix (1 cup vinegar to a full carafe) and then a couple of cycles with fresh water and it is as good as new.

    • That seems awfully wasteful of fresh water.
    • The instructions say to fill carafe with hot water first to help keep warm
    • You can demonstrate both of these easily with cold water.
    • Before brewing the first pot of coffee, I followed the instructions and ran a couple of cycles with just clean water, but the taste was still so terrible, the first pot was undrinkable
    • pour hot water into the carafe3
    • This product was poorly described and no mention of not having hot plate to keep coffee warm and needing to preheat thermos with hot water prior to making coffee
    • On cooler mornings pre-heating with hot water helps coffee stay hotter longer.
    • If you pour very hot water into the carafe, to preheat it, it keeps it hotterI would not buy this again

    • I have hard water, and I go through coffee makers quite often
    • However, you really need to run hot water in the carafe before hand to pre-warm it, otherwise the coffee loses some of its heat after 45 minutes.
    • empty hot water out of carafe WITHIN 20 SECONDS of starting coffee maker6
    • Warming the carafe with hot water before brewing helps
    • Someone suggested putting hot water in the carafe before brewing, but if you are using the scheduled brewing you are not going to get up to prep your coffee pot before it brews

    • The instructions say to run hot water through it first, which I
    • my coffee makers as suggested; and have relatively soft mineral free water.
    • Use hot water for most days
    • Ever since I have had to clean up water

    • I realize I'm told that by putting hot water into the carafe before brewing, the carafe will keep the coffee warmer longer but who is realistically going to go that trouble?

    • Rinsing with hot water first helps keep coffee hot longer.
    • After less than three weeks, the coffee is not working; the hot water is not going through the plastic tubes.
    • so you have to add hot water.
    • I just didn’t realize you had to put hot water in the pot and let it sit while you fill the coffeemaker up so the coffee will stay hot
    • The carafe really keeps the coffee warm for a very long time (you do have to remember to rinse it first with warm water)
    • But if you fill the Carafe with Hot water before you make the coffee, and rinse it out the coffee will stay hot longer
    • so you have to fill the carafe with hot water, put the lid on, & let the carafe sit for at least 10 to 15 minutes before pouring water into the machine
    • You are expected to pre-heat the carafe by filling the carafe with hot water
    • I find warming the carafe with hot water, after filling the reservoir, makes a difference in keeping the coffee warm longer, but still not for nearly as long as my glass lined coffee carafe.
    • The trick is to fill the carafe with HOT water (and empty it) before placing it under the drip mechanism.
    • Even heating the pot with hot water the coffee doesn't stay hot for long.
    • However after using the clean cycle using 1st vinegar and water, then lemon juice and water and then clear water, this morning the coffee was good.

    • I'm returning it, though, because: the water is a pain to fill
    • Even when you soak the thermal carafe in hot water the coffee doesn’t stay hot
    • Maybe a heat tank up top that drips hot water without it having to be brought to boiling
    • but even though we heat our cups with water from our 'instant hot' water before pouring the coffe..., the coffee did not stay hot
    • My critiques would be: difficulty adding water from the craffee
    • I should have known that when the carafe came with a sticker that said to heat the carafe with hot water before brewing that it was a bad sign.
    • I love the steel carafe as it will not break if you accidentally bump something.
    • Coffee flavor was not as good as with my old pot, but more coffee helps
    • Terrible leaking from the carafe evry time you pour as well as from the maker itself whenever you remove the pot
    • n’t overcook the coffee for a burnt taste but the pot leaks around the lid when you pour it
    • n’t say enough how much I love it
