Bonavita BV382510V 1.0L Digital Variable Temperature Gooseneck Kettle

    • Spout is *slightly* angled, but does not seem to affect pouring, also edge of spout was a bit rough, again does not affect pouring
    • Pouring with it took a bit of getting used to, but we love it much more than our old kettle that lacked temperature control.
    • Takes a bit to warm all the way up from tap, but other than that it's perfect very controlled flow
    • Worked great for just over a year, then the temperature reading started to get a bit unstable before the unit failed to power on again
    • The timer is a bit hard to use: it automatically stops when you put the kettle back into the dock.
    • Even a little bit of water on the spout will cause it to corrode down the back of it
    • The preset and custom setting temperature, hold function, timer makes brewing a bit simpler and more consistent.
    • BUT, we are seeing rust develop around the lid, the steel is very thin and flimsy feeling and looking, the heating base is starting to warp a little around the buttons, it's a bit slow and noisy, especially as it turns on and off over and over to hit the target temperature, and really the 1L volume is not quite enough for our household (you sometimes have to immediately put on a second kettle of water to brew what you're brewing).
    • I left some water on hold and came back to find that the water had boiled out all over the counter and the plastic in the base was starting to smell up the place as it smoldered a bit (in fairness though, it didn't melt)
    • I wish the gooseneck were a tab bit narrower to slow the pour a bit, but honestly, it's a non issue.
    • I contacted Bonavita and they said there are older versions out there that didn't have the steel cleaned in the right way in manufacturing making them rust a bit
    • I got quite a bit of use out of the kettle, but bummed that it died
    • Only thing that I find is a bit annoying, but not worth removing a star, is how when you remove the kettle from stand, and place it back after pouring, you have to press the 'hold' button again so that it will maintain the temperature you chose
    • This makes it a bit unstable, not good for a heating device
    • (No window) there is an etching, inside which is a bit hard to see
    • Small, elegant, a bit fiddly on the maintenance, with a tendency to default to Celsius
    • Although it still boils my water, the main reason I bought it was because of the digital temp gauge and the reviews helped influence my decision as well which is why i'm trying to be as honest and useful as I canI suggest buying a more durable, better quality kettle from a brand that has a great reputation even if it may cost a bit more.
    • I didn't think I would like the gooseneck as much as I
    • If this one were to break I would order the same one again.
