Reviews around crunch (5.00 of 5)

  • Clean, crunch, rhythm, and lead, with use of your volume knob.
  • It has that classic crunch tone that you'd get from an amp cranked to 11
  • Adjustable crunch on a tight budget.

Reviews around price (4.61 of 5)

  • If you have a guitar, this pedal is a necessity for the best price of all pedals out there.
  • It's probably adequate for messing around with or as a first DS pedal (and the price is certainly economical), but I would not say that it produces high-quality distortion for rhythm playing
  • Been building up my pedal collection, and came across one of these at a great price
  • burn I like os1 better.
  • One of the rarer occasions where it feels like you got more than you paid for, excellent price point.

Reviews around sound (3.99 of 5)

  • Very nice sound, and can produce a wide range of sounds for a good price
  • It's Tone knob gives the sound a more thick, almost muddy sound when turned to the left, while turning it to the right gives it a much more clear, defined, but treble-y sound.
  • This pedal generates a very cool sound which is great especially when performing live!
  • It turned my Boss DS1 distortion into a fantastic, way more expensive sounding pedal
  • Great sound if you looking for a distortion and not sure

Reviews around product (3.75 of 5)

  • If you like other pedals, it's great, but trashing this product just because you don't like it, it's kind of not fair
  • All I wanted to say is that Boss in general makes awesome products and this is one of them
  • Typically a solid product, expect to have to purchase a new one every couple of years.
  • 2nd defective product item in a row

Reviews around distortion (3.69 of 5)

  • It has started working again but the distortion sounds horrible now.
  • If you love classic rock from the 70`s turn the distortion to half-way and you will love this pedal
  • Even If you love 90`s alternative rock turn up the distortion all the way and you will love this pedal and guitarists are still using it in 2014
  • classic distortion is good but it sucks volume and is really noisy, i guess you get what you pay for
  • That being done, I find the EQ really cleans up the mess of a mediocre distortion pedal.

Reviews around amp (3.68 of 5)

  • I use the orange micro dark as clean as I can get it, and set the volume and shape knobs accordingly
  • Don't buy these to play on a clean channel or even worse on a Solid State amp.
  • For the price this is one of the best distortion boxes available, it works quite well into a clean sounding amp like the little Quilter Micro Block
  • I can use this and turn up the tone to play a tone filled, dirty Mötley Crüe song, and on the other side, I can turn it down and get a deep rumble and play some Black Sabbath and anywhere in between
  • It doesn't really make a solid-state amp sound like a tube amp, it's just a very honest distortion

Reviews around tone (3.61 of 5)

  • i like to turn the tone down a little and the distortion up a little.
  • the tone sounds great, but it stopped working about a week after I got it which really made me mad
  • It may be useful for some lead guitar, but the sound is very 'fizzy' and thin sounding- not a rich, complex tone by any means
  • For the price, this is a great pedal, sound by its self may be a little thin, but mixed with an Ibanez tube screamer, the tone is amazing
  • Very muddy tone

Reviews around box (3.61 of 5)

  • Great box -- perfect sound and great price.
  • Buy yourself a blues box and don't waste your time and money
  • pretty much the exact same one-trick pony as the original orange box......just costs more.
  • For the price this is one of the best distortion boxes available, it works quite well into a clean sounding amp like the little Quilter Micro Block

Reviews around state (3.61 of 5)

  • I have a S type (Stratocaster copy) and a Fender frontman 25r solid state
  • It's the same sound as the original orange DS-1; that classic solid-state distortion that's a little noisy, heavier than the SD-1 or those Tube Screamer type pedals
  • Don't buy these to play on a clean channel or even worse on a Solid State amp.
  • Physically, the pedal is a tank, I don't think they can be killed as I let my 16 year old use
  • I use the orange micro dark as clean as I can get it, and set the volume and shape knobs accordingly

Reviews around guitar (3.16 of 5)

  • It may be useful for some lead guitar, but the sound is very 'fizzy' and thin sounding- not a rich, complex tone by any means
  • Not the best and not the worst, but if it’s good enough for just about every famous guitar virtuoso since the early 80’s, then it’s good enough for me
  • Physically, the pedal is a tank, I don't think they can be killed as I let my 16 year old use
  • If you want to have a REAL good time playing with your band, this pedal will make you sound like Kurt Cobain's crappy distorted guitar
  • I am teaching myself to play and I wanted to make my guitar sound like some of my favorite rockers

Reviews around rock (3.09 of 5)

  • Classic distortion,great for blues,grunge,classic rock,punk even
  • Even If you love 90`s alternative rock turn up the distortion all the way and you will love this pedal and guitarists are still using it in 2014
  • Great pedal if you're looking for that punk-meets-noise/college rock kinda sound from the 90's
  • I play a lot of heavy metal, (Metallica, MegadetH, Slayer, trivium, bullet for my valentine, etc) and also 80's heavy metal and classic rock, (poison, skid row, whitesnake, quiet riot, def leopard, etc) and this Pedal, with a little understand about sound and compression, makes everything sound massive
  • Even If you love 90`s alternative rock turn up the distortion all the way and you will love this pedal and guitarists are still using it in 2014
