Reviews around boost (5.00 of 5)

  • This pedal has a lot of control and can add a clean boost to a heavy overdrive that's perfect for heavy music
  • It is versatile - everything from a good clean(ish) boost right up to adding significant hair to what you are playing2
  • This helps push my lead channel over the edge a bit, and it also gives a nice boost to the clean channel, helping to get that saturated tube sound at lower volumes
  • Though its clean boost lacks the definition of other overdrive pedals, this pedal has plenty of volume boost on top
  • would recommend this pedal any form of rock/pop based music. if you play heavier music i would suggest this pedal for a nice boost.

Reviews around overdrive (5.00 of 5)

  • I've used several overdrive/distortion pedals and I can say this is one of the most versatile, warm and punchy overdrive I have ever used
  • It's really tough to beat this pedal if you're looking for a solid, inexpensive overdrive
  • But the advantage the OD-3 has is a greater range of timbre than most warm-sounding overdrives
  • I was in no hurry, and I wanted to get a really good overdrive no matter the cost

Reviews around thing (5.00 of 5)

  • I'm not good at writing reviews but believe me that you will love this thing
  • But the OD-1 is one of the pioneer pedals and have read great things and got one
  • Descriptions of pedal "tone" are very subjective and hard to convey in words, but the best thing I can say about the OD-3 boosts your tone and adds fullness and gain without sacrificing transparency.
  • Perhaps most importantly (and unlike the DS-1 and SD-1), it has tons of output on tap - this thing can easily achieve unity gain with your clean tone, or boost your signal even further

Reviews around effect (5.00 of 5)

  • Overdrive is overwhelmingly the most popular guitar effect these days; even more so than distortion
  • Or you can just plug in the OD-3 and get an equally awesome effect.
  • This is because overdrive is overwhelmingly the most popular effect for guitar players.
  • This is one situation where people will flat out refuse to like the effect because it's BOSS, and it's just not expensive (or hipster) enough at this point in the market

Reviews around level (5.00 of 5)

  • I would definitely recommend this pedal if you like classic rock and highly manageable levels of OD from clean to pretty ragged.
  • Put this one in front of your other distortion/OD's with the tone to taste (start at noon), level at around 9-10 o'clock and the drive between 0FF and 9 o'clock (depending on what tone your going for) and you'll love it

Reviews around ish (5.00 of 5)

  • It responds well to playing dynamics - you can go from clean (ish) to grindy dirt just by digging in on the strings.6
  • It is versatile - everything from a good clean(ish) boost right up to adding significant hair to what you are playing2

Reviews around boss (3.80 of 5)

  • This is the BEST box Boss ever made and the only one that will ever find it's way onto my pedal board (and I stomp on about $3,500 every time I play).
  • BD-2 (which is more aggressive sounding, and a bit too 'bright'/'tinny') and the BOSS SD-1 (which doesn't offer near as much bass, and is a much more noisy pedal)
  • I have had a number of distortion/OD pedals and, up to now, the only keepers have been my old Boss HM-2 (too brash for normal use but only occasionally fits what I'm doing) and a recent addition, the MXR 78 Custom Badass Distortion (very close to what I was looking for but still a bit harsh for my liking on some of what I play).
  • BOSS really reclaimed their integrity with the OD-3, and I highly recommend it
  • Pick attack is very well defined from note to note too - it's an analog circuitry, but BOSS really did some nice work under the hood to refine it

Reviews around sound (3.61 of 5)

  • Very fat crunch and and warm sounding (in a good way)
  • I like mids in my sound but not the kind the tube screamer had, it just was harsh sounding compared to this
  • This is about as versatile and magical as an overdrive sound as I'd expected
  • As a set it and leave it OD, in front of a clean sound you are happy with, you can get a big range of tones by using your guitars controls (volume/pickup selector/tone etc)
  • I've always wanted to get the Boss OD-2 because it has such a great and controllable classic natural sounding

Reviews around rock (3.04 of 5)

  • I would definitely recommend this pedal if you like classic rock and highly manageable levels of OD from clean to pretty ragged.
  • but it is a great low to mid-gain pedal - everything for classic rock, hard rock, Indie, blues etc
  • You can get a lot of those great "Stevie Ray" or classic rock tones with a Tubescreamer boosting an already overdriven amplifier.
  • I tried it with a Les Paul and it could handle everything from smooth blues to crunchy classic rock.
