We've had cheap ones that lasted years and did an adequate job and expensive ones that did a mediocre job and failed within a couple years

The only downside is the outside of it does get pretty hot too.

As mentioned by others, the top does get pretty warm - I sometimes place foil wrapped rolls on top to warm

This thing does so poorly on day to day stuff, I am afraid to even try baking or broiling

Given the overall excellent design of this product, the engineers should fix this too.

A very odd design quirk is that the crumb tray has to be partially pulled out before the door will stay open.

Had a Black and Decker for years with rubbed off numbers and uneven toast.

I finally gave it away after burning more toast in it, and got a $40 Black and Decker, the simplest one they make.

The crumb tray doesn't need foil and it is advised not to line it due to safety hazard.

Also do not like that the tray does not come out when you open the door - seems a little bit of a safety hazard the way it works

This is in contrast to my last toaster that seemed to desiccate the bread as it slowly came up to temperature (again, I suspect the large toaster ovens sacrifice toasting ability to include other features).I have included pictures of toasted bread for reference as I was frustrated in my own search that this was very hard to find

I always freeze bread, and this makes it easy to defrost and toast at the same time

Not only is it a fire hazard if you accidentally left something like a napkin on top of the unit, it actually melted through a thick power cord that was plugged into the same outlet (whereas my older toaster oven did not after sharing the same electric outlet for years)
