BUNN CSB3T Speed Brew Platinum Thermal Coffee Maker, 10-Cup

    • This is the consumer version of the Bunn coffee makers you'll typically see in an office - it's on all the time maintaining a tank of hot water, so you fill the carafe, pour it in the top, the already hot water brews the coffee and the cold water goes into the tank for heating.
    • Great Brewer, fill the thermos with hot water first, then the coffee will stay hot for hours and taste great
    • I pour the fresh cold water from the tap in ... put the lid down until I hear the drip ... lift the lid up for a minute or so and then put the lid back down to complete the brewing
    • It's so fast that the hot water doesn't have enough time to fully extract the coffee
    • Yes, once plugged in and going ...it always stays on, boiling up the water inside to keep it at 200 degrees
    • If you grind the coffee a bit more fine, the water can't spray through the grinds fast
    • Water is always hot.
    • I use this as an instant coffee maker since it always has hot water.
    • In the morning we dump out the hot water from the carafe and brew with the cold water.
    • It stores the waiting hot water in the reservoir in the back, so it doesn't need to heat the water going in
    • Water in the reservoir cooked away and the heating element overheated
    • Our water is well water and the contaminates finally killed it
    • We added vinegar water which I presume is mixed with the existing hot water, let it stand, then ran 4 pots of water through it to remove the smell of the vinegar.
    • water was hot - then 2 minutes making a pot (with coffee
    • it expels the already hot water and replaces it with the new water
    • It takes a little time to run hot water in the caraf before brewing a
    • I set my timer for a 3 hr period so the water is hot when I decide to make coffee in the morning.
    • I have no idea what this is (if it's a plastic seal or something like that) because the hot water storage container is supposed to be made from stainless steel.
    • Coffee is good and quick but be aware energy efficiency is low since hot water is stored for faster brewing.
    • When we first made coffee with this pot, the water, coffee, and coffee grounds flooded the counter top.
    • On the latter point, isn't that what all our tank hot water heaters do anyway?
    • Since coffee is supposed to be brewed at around 200 degrees, most coffee makers boil the water to make it rise up into where the coffee grounds will get brewed.
    • We love the convenience and speed of the Bunn Velocity Brewer and the thermal carafe; however, when brewing a full pot, the water comes out so fast that the grounds go up and over the filter, so you get grounds in the pot
    • I think it slows the water down, and works great because it's no longer messy
    • The water chamber always keeps the water hot so this machine would not be ideal for casual coffee drinkers.
    • There's a fixed amount of water always kept at temperature, and when you put in the cold water, it dispenses that amount of hot water, then uses the cold water to replenish the reservoir
    • Good product, water stays hot water all day
    • We swish the carafe with hot water just before brewing.
    • But in the back of my mind I am always wondering how much juice it uses by keeping the water hot.
    • It leaks water from front of basket the coffee grinds float over the basket
    • To clear out the excess water in the reservoir, you have to turn this thing over above a sink and get water everywhere
    • Now fill your carafe with the hottest water just to warm it up.
    • If the funnel is going to overflow with decaffeinated, fine grind coffee or softened water, the problem should be corrected, or at least the replacement flow restrictor should be included.
    • The unit is always “on” (unless you turn it off, of course) and has warm water in standby
    • Close the top of water reservoir and hot coffee drains into thermal pot
    • Hot water comes out from under the top.
    • It has a water reservoir that keeps hot water ready all day long, or it can be turned off to save energy and then turned on 15 minutes before you're ready to brew.
    • It wastes a fair amount of energy by keeping the water hot all the time
    • The hot water that comes out is not the same water as the cold water you poured in
    • In the future, we will drain the water, fill with vinegar water, soak, drain the water again, then refill with fresh
    • but I just noticed the plastic tank that holds the water leaks out of an invisible crack and makes a hot water puddle on the counter next to the machine
    • Now dump out the hot water from the carafe, and put the empty carafe back in place in the coffee maker, close the lid, and almost instantly your coffee starts to brew
    • it's just as good as having one with hot water ready like this Bunn.
    • This is my second one, first one lasted eight years even in our hard water
    • If speed of brewing is important to you, this is the machine for you, because it keeps a reservoir of hot water inside the machine, the coffee dispenses immediately when it is started
    • I was recommended for the speed to make coffee, you can get better results if put the coffee into a sock and pour hot water on it, do not buy this product
    • I have very hard water and clean the unit roughly every 30 to 45 days by using a vinegar rinse which may promote the failures.
    • Then the lid is closed, the new water replaces the hot water in the reservoir which flows into the coffee in the filter and then into the carafe
    • Nothing but pure RO water going through it once a day.. Has never needed to be cleaned and the coffee tastes great
    • If the water evaporates in the reserve, it is difficult to find the full level again without getting water and grinds all over the place.
    • In fairness, the description does say that there's an internal water tank and that the pot keeps the water hot for "tea and other purposes".
    • The only thing is the flow restrictor, but they do say in the Bunn booklet that they will ship it for free if you use fine grinds or have soft water
    • I suspect the heating element died since the maker no longer produces hot water
    • better*.GOOD COFFEESince it uses very hot water and brews quickly, it's unsurprising that the coffee that comes out is indeed quite good
    • The container in the rear of the machine constantly keeps the water warm.
    • Bunn has a great approach - the water reservoir is always primed with 10 cups of hot water, and once you pour in the right amount of cold, you're poised to get a fresh pot in 3 minutes.
    • Then, it's designed so that there is no physically possible way for the firehouse of water this thing spits out into the filter cup for that water to pass quickly enough into the carafe--so the coffee filter gets overfilled and the slurry of coffee and water spills over the filter into your carafe and makes a huge mess
    • What would make this coffeemaker a "5" for me would be a hot water dispenser on the side, but I assume that feature is just not available on this particular model ( I've seen it on the pricier, restaurant models)
    • The hot water runs over the grounds too fast
    • I have very hard water where I live, and this thing stands up to it like a champ.
    • Yes, I do warm the carafe with hot water each morning before brewing the coffee, as Bunn recommends
    • The first one was great, but we needed to replace it because we live on well water
    • Rather not have a miniature hot water tank.
    • Add another pot of cold water and close the lid to start brewing immediately
    • - water was luke warm.
    • Also, we fill the carafe with hot water at night and put a pitcher of cold water in the fridge.
    • so it couldn't be screwed on to the bolt where the hot water flows to fill the coffee filter.
    • My guess is the reservoir and the water is tainted by the metal
    • When brewing, thanks to differences in fluid densities between the hot water stored in the tank and freshly supplied cold water, the hot water is forced through a high output, wide-area spray head that wets the grounds evenly
    • I ordered the slower water-head from Bunn and it came within a couple of days - they actually sent two
    • Hard water can cause
    • Also, the power must be kept on at all times as the internal hot water tank has to always be full.
    • Just put the coffee in the basket - the other reviews are right, spend the extra few pennies and buy the bigger Bunn filters to avoid grounds in your coffee - and make sure the carafe is under the basket BEFORE adding the water because when you close the lid to the water port, hot water INSTANTLY begins streaming through the basket
    • For this coffee maker to work, it keeps water hot constantly
    • It seems that the water goes through way to fast to get the full flavor out of the beans
    • It seems at first to be a bit of a Rube Goldberg, by keeping water hot all the time, so when one pours in a pot load of cold water, there is already a pot load of hot water in the reservoir
    • Second, if you don't position the filter holder just right - and it seems like it's been pushed in tight - you get hot water and grounds all over the machine and your counter
    • If you tried to make decaf with soft water the unit would overflow, which was a mess, and we definitely considered sending the coffee maker back.
    • Hot water on demand while camping is a big luxury.
    • The internal heating element is always turning off and on continuously keeping the water hot.
    • This one seems to keep the water much hotter and brews the coffee even faster...coffee tastes great.
    • The downside is, you cannot leave the cold water in the coffee maker overnight, the valve leaks.
    • I just pour the amount that I need and out comes hot water for tea or cooking
    • You can count on 3 minutes to brew a pot of coffee, tea or hot water for hot chocolate or instant hot cereal.
    • Soft water causes the grounds to float more and can cause a mess
    • I guess since the water is constantly being heated, if you have hard water it builds up a lot of deposits.
    • Looked at the manual, it said "decaf, fine grind and/or softened water may cause an overflow of grounds into your carafe".
    • This speed is achieved because there are already 2 whole pots worth of hot water waiting to be pushed across the grounds by the newly added water
    • you coffee will be ready in about 3 minutes!!...this thing is fast because the water is kept at brewing temp 24/7, always ready for you
    • Only wish it was easier to clean because I have very hard water and its hard on the Bunns.
    • Then you pour some cold water into the tank which mixes with the hot water and then begins making coffee immediately
    • Have heard it will eventually evaporate the hot water therefore burning out your heating elements
    • I almost broke down and bought a Cuisinart CHW-12, but then found out the coffee side does not have a reservoir, just the hot water side does
    • I didn't realize that it did not have a bottom warmer...kept coffee OK, but, you need to pre-heat the vessel with hot water to keep more than 20 minutes at hot temperature..too much
    • and it continuously uses 31 watts until you pour in more cold water.
    • Love the stainless carafe as it does keep my coffee piping hot for at least 2 hours -- little more if I pre-warm the pot by filling it with hot tap water beforehand.
    • One thing remember to temper the Carafe with hot water from the tap
    • No matter how freshly ground, organic, locally roasted and piled high in the filter I get, the coffee still comes out pretty bland and watered down.
    • Top Bunn Quality and with prewiring the insulated carafe with hot water we have fresh hot coffee without a burnt taste.
    • Then you pour some cold water into the tank which mixes with the hot water and then begins making coffee immediately
    • Because the water is kept hot you don't have to wait very long to get a fresh cup
    • It was a bit of a surprise that the unit is always turned on and that it maintains a reservoir of hot water at all times, but that is how it produces a pot of coffee in three minutes
    • and I don't put hot water in it before fixing the coffee
    • They, in turn, will send the slower water diffuser.
    • It holds a pot of hot water all the time
    • I guess keeping water hot all the time wears it out quickly.
    • I prime the carafe with hot water before using, an extra step that is worth it.
    • On the downside, when making a full pot with generic filters hot water and coffee grounds ended up all over the counter.
    • Fourth, you'll have to clean the coffee maker every 6 months or so to remove the hard water deposits that can block water flow.
    • Don't see why it needs to keep water hot throughout the day when I won't need it until next morning
    • I had to fiddle with the proportions over a few days to get the right flavor, I think that now that it is using hot enough water to pull the flavor from the coffee I need to use less coffee that I was before
    • It seems at first to be a bit of a Rube Goldberg, by keeping water hot all the time, so when one pours in a pot load of cold water, there is already a pot load of hot water in the reservoir
    • Then you have instantly hot water
    • We've had to replace a Bunn more than once because the burner goes bad, not because it doesn't make hot water for coffee.
    • Previous Bunns have inevitably leaked water, but this coffee maker does not
    • Yes, the Bunn is fast but the water is really not hot enough to unlock the flavors in the oils of the coffee.
    • The paper filters always would overflow as the water couldn't get through fast enough and I would have grinds backing over into my coffee
    • Also, we fill the carafe with hot water at night and put a pitcher of cold water in the fridge.
    • When brewing, thanks to differences in fluid densities between the hot water stored in the tank and freshly supplied cold water, the hot water is forced through a high output, wide-area spray head that wets the grounds evenly
    • I just fill it with hot water for a couple minutes while I am measuring the coffee.
    • no biggie.- Coffee taste is great.- Very hot and fast -- obviously a distinguishing point for Bunn is the hot water reservoir that instantly dispenses the proper temp very quickly -- 3 minutes seems right for the full pot.- (I realized at work that the problem with our $25 Mr. Coffee is the low brew temp -- i know use heated water dispenser water
    • First, it always keeps the water hot, which can a good thing for a restaurant, but for a once a day use, it might get pricey keeping that water hot
    • I debit 1/2 a star only because I'd want a hot water tap on the side
    • You do need to put the lid on correctly, and I do rinse it with hot water first, so maybe that helps it stay warm so long.
    • My first pot brewed (without acclimating the decanter in hot water) stayed scalding hot for 12 hours.
    • The Bunn brewer makes the best coffee because the brewing water is already hot in the brewer allowing for fast brewing, at correct water temperature.
    • The thing I like the most is the reservoir keeps hot water ready, so the minute you add the new pot of water the coffee can make instantly from the hot reservoir and is ready in less than 3 minutes
    • Bunns need to stay plugged in and "on" to keep that water hot in the reservoir
    • I run hot water over the outside, too, you will leave it sit while you do the next step.
    • We bought this in 11/2015 and now just about 15 months later the water has started leaking
    • Instant hot water for tea instant coffee aor you can make a pot of coffee right quick
    • Fast... yes, you have to leave it on or use a timer so the water is hot already (minimal electricity use, however it is using some), but 10 cups in ~3min is very nice.2
    • We have hard water here so the unit gets plugged up in five years even with daily cleaning and deliming
    • We bought another Bunn since our last one of many years started leaking, and losing temperature, only to find the build up of hard water is what forced its demise.
    • I regularly make the coffee an hour before my wife drinks any, but if I have pre-heated the carafe with hot water prior to making the coffee, it will still be hot an hour later
    • (I say "right amount", because my wife frequently uses it to get an 8 ounce cup of hot water for her tea!)Background:
    • I was filling the reservoir the night before and shutting the lid at brew time, but found it not as hot as if it's filled with fresh water when you're ready for a pot
    • I have very hard water and clean the unit roughly every 30 to 45 days by using a vinegar rinse which may promote the failures.
    • The water flows to fast from this machine making the coffee grounds spill out of the filter and drain into the carafe
    • Note: if you have really hard water calcium builds up on the grate where you poor water into and also in the spray button
    • I have well water with a softener.
    • Now dump out the hot water from the carafe, and put the empty carafe back in place in the coffee maker, close the lid, and almost instantly your coffee starts to brew
    • The reservoir keeps the water HOT and the sprayer evenly soaks the coffee grounds
    • As a result, the water will be much hotter than what is recommended for taste.
    • It keeps the water hot all the time so making coffee is so fast
    • If you have added the water and left the lid up and the power is applied the machine sprays enough water into the filter chamber to produce about an ounce of very dark coffee right away.
    • They say to fill the carafe with hot water before you make coffe and this helps but its a waste of
    • The hot water that comes out is not the same water as the cold water you poured in
    • Keeping a pot-full of water hot and in the storage tank just to have coffee a minute sooner wastes a lot of electricity
    • I use a denture tablet with hot water in the carafe to clean it out.
    • If the funnel is going to overflow with decaffeinated, fine grind coffee or softened water, the problem should be corrected, or at least the replacement flow restrictor should be included.
    • We have extremely "hard" water and have to remove the calcium buildup after three or four months of heavy use (using the supplied tool), but that is to be expected
    • It dispenses hot (but NOT boiling) water to make excellent coffee (no "burned" flavor) and is the proper temperature to draw the best flavor from most leaf teas.
    • Chock Full of Nuts and Folgers and rather common brands and my water is exceptionally pure well water
    • You need to either leave the hot water tank turned on 24/7 or as I do, use a 3- prong grounded timer which works great.
    • There's a fixed amount of water always kept at temperature, and when you put in the cold water, it dispenses that amount of hot water, then uses the cold water to replenish the reservoir
    • I think it slows the water down, and works great because it's no longer messy
    • On the latter point, isn't that what all our tank hot water heaters do anyway?
    • HOT WATER IN
    • It's fast and heats water quickly
    • Clever engineering, however be advised that the coffee pot remains on at all time to keep hot water heated to allow for a fast brew
    • The result is water overflowing the brew basket and a lake of very hot grind water all over your counter.4
    • Key to note: if you have hard water, you will need a special spray nozzle otherwise it will spray everywhere
    • it expels the already hot water and replaces it with the new water
    • Our water is well water and the contaminates finally killed it
    • My coffee maker is a year old now and leaking water every time I use it.
    • Once the water is hot, the coffee brews fast• Front loading of water for coffee is conveniently located in the front of the unitCons:• In my opinion, considering its lack of features, the unit is too expensive.
    • With this machine, you always have hot water
    • In the morning we dump out the hot water from the carafe and brew with the cold water.
    • The constant heating of water tank consumes excess electricityPrice
    • I love the fact that there is always hot water available for the next pot, that only takes a few minutes to brew
    • After awhile, I might even upgrade to a plumbed version with a hot water dispenser
    • If you start this thing and go take your morning shower before the water gets warm you can have coffee
    • I pour the fresh cold water from the tap in ... put the lid down until I hear the drip ... lift the lid up for a minute or so and then put the lid back down to complete the brewing
    • This is the consumer version of the Bunn coffee makers you'll typically see in an office - it's on all the time maintaining a tank of hot water, so you fill the carafe, pour it in the top, the already hot water brews the coffee and the cold water goes into the tank for heating.
    • Water poured so forcefully through the filter and the grounds that it overwhelmed the filter holder and overflowed, spilling coffee and grounds all over the countertop, into the carafe, and stuck to the top of the unit where the water nozzle resides.
    • hot water is always ready to go and it only takes 2-3 minutes for the coffee to fill the pot
    • It was easy to hook up, the water drained easily for the test run without coffee.
    • I like that the water goes from the carafe to the brewer then brewer back into the carafe
    • This coffee maker has a reservoir of hot water, so it makes coffee super fast - in about 3 minutes - and the carafe keeps it hot for hours without burning the coffee.
    • The fast cycle time is really nice, although I realize it uses power to keep the water hot constantly, which you can tell when you touch the base.
    • The water is held hot and ready for use at a moment's notice
    • The shower type hot water diffuser was either missing or misplaced and I ordered a SS substitute which still fills the ground coffee container too quickly
    • This is a problem because of the way the unit intended to be used: the carafe is used to fill the water reservoir, then removed and filled hot water for 30 seconds to preheat it, then inserted under the basket - and if the door flips down before the carafe is reinserted, you have a mess
    • Third, this thing brews a whole pot in just 3 minutes, which means a fast water flow through the grounds.
    • I used to hear hot-water bubbling noise or see coffee in the glass pot on previous coffee makers
    • However, for some reason the original, faster water-head in the home machine works just
    • If you have hard water, you need to do this every 6 months.
    • No automatic shut off, water stays hot all the time which is good if you are using all day long, not so good if you are not
    • So adding water to brew a new pot really just pushes that much of the hot water out to to start the brew
    • NOT.I HAVE EVEN USED HOT WATER AND POURED IN LIKE SUGGESTED NOTHING
    • The hot water is replaced by your fresh cold water and is heated following the brewing of a pot.
    • I cannot recommend this coffee maker due to the plastic smell when the water is hot, its lack of basic features and relatively high price.
    • The water head that came with the machine had to be replaced by the manufacturer as it allowed too much hot water too fast and the filter holder would make a huge mess
    • Yes, it is somewhat devoid of minerals and calcium, but blaming my water for the mess is a stretch for me to believe ~The coffee brewed is good, but I am extremely disappointed in the design and performance of the brewer
    • This is our 3rd pot, our water is hard and the sediment builds up but last 5 to 6 years, would last
    • If it’s loaded with a fine ground coffee, it WILL spew water and grounds all over your counter
    • It is "always on" and keeps a reservoir of water hot and ready to brew at all times.
    • If you've ever taken one of these units apart, you can see where the cost is: Stainless steel water tank..copper tubing from tank to shower head
    • You pour in a certain amount of cold water and that exact amount of hot water comes out
    • There is no steam from the water messing up your cabinets, becuase the water is already hot when it hits the grinds
    • Fast - Three minutes for a full potBetter flavor - Consistent water temperature means no foul, bitter taste from an overheated aluminum boiler system
    • Very simple to operate and coffee is ready as fast as water runs through it.
    • We used to have well water that destroyed coffee makers
    • Only recommendation I would make to the company would be to insulate the water storage tank that keeps the water hot.
    • My countertop is flooded with clear water every time I brew coffee
    • They say to just add hot water in the carafe for a couple of minutes.
    • Failure probably due to the fact that it keeps the water hot all the time.
    • I have had the Bunn iwh the hot water reserve before and loved it.
    • We use it for coffee and with a Oggi pitcher which fits perfectly underneath, I can have hot water for tea that doesn't taste like coffee
    • Helps to run a couple of cups of its hot water into the carafe before making your coffee so it will pre heat it.
    • The rear tank stays on like a mini hot water heater full time.
    • It is similar to your water heater in that it is an insulated space that keeps the water hot
    • The water gets hot but the contact time with the grounds is minimal.
    • The instant hot water is great for tea, oatmeal, etc.
    • Because the hot water dispenses so quickly it is a good idea, if you like strong coffee, to contact Bunn and have them send the alternative spray nozzle (screws in).
    • Then when I stumble to the kitchen in the morning, I just pour in a pot of water, and three minutes later I have a steaming hot cup of, fantastic tasting coffee! What I am waiting for, is for BUNN to come out with a Hot water side for the tea drinkers in my family.
    • When you add water, it pushes the hot water up to the coffee grounds for brewing.
    • You simply add a filter to the basket, put in grounds, and add cold water
    • The device does not include an accurate means to measure the fresh water being introduced to the reservoir; if water is introduced too quickly or in larger quantities, clear water will exit from around the filter cup
    • The water is pre-heated to the 220 degree temp, you put fresh water into the machine, get the coffee in the filter, and close the top to set it in motion
    • No clocks and no auto-brew to be found here - just fast brewing thanks to an always-ready supply of hot water at the perfect temperature
    • Another tip with using any type of Carafe is to preheat with hot water for several minutes up to 10 minutes
    • Another thing, the carafe does not keep the coffee all that hot, even after I heat it with hot water
    • coffee.o No LED to indicate when the unit is heating the water, therefore you have to guess when the water is hot again to make a second pot of coffee in quick succession (for example a pot of
    • weird tank system by keeping water hot all the
    • No longer have to be concerned if water begins leaking
    • Plus Bunn doesn't boil the water
    • We live in an area where the water is rich in limestone
    • The stainless steel water reservoir is not removable so cleanliness of the reservoir over time cannot be verified.
    • We have small children and did not feel safe with the unit randomly spilling an ounce or two of scalding hot water out of the shower head
    • Our water is Very hard water
    • It doesn't leak coffee...just water!
    • but we've still had several instances where this coffee maker will overflow and spew grinds and water everywhere.
    • Oh, and bought the 'gold' permanent basket after first purchase, and when I tried to make a full pot, water poured out all over the place, what a mess, so now, I make a half pot at a time, again, not happy with this purchase either.
    • I use it for soups and Raman noodles for immediate hot water.
    • The cold water reservoir is really accessible and it is easily filled without spillage
    • The hot water "primes" the carafe and the coffee stays warm for hours.
    • This is the disaster scenario where you grind too fine and the water cannot pass as fast as the spray head is delivering it
    • So I'm using it for the hot water and brewing decaf one cup at a time with a Melita one cup cone and filter.
    • You pour in a certain amount of cold water and that exact amount of hot water comes out
    • Something smells like plastic when the power is on and the water is hot.
    • The water (2 pots worth) is preheated in the tank to 200
    • The only reason for 4/5 stars is that there should be more insulation around the hot water tank
    • The hot water is replaced by your fresh cold water and is heated following the brewing of a pot.
    • The other issue is that if you put a too much water (a small amount over what it's expecting) then it will drizzle water or start the brew process early to bleed out the extra water
    • If you put a normal filter in, the water and coffee ground mixture rises above the filter
    • and you can get hot water for recipe or just make coffee. looking forward to using the new thermal carafe instead of the glass pot on the warming burner.
    • It cools off a little bit when I get to the bottom of the pot, but with the always on hot water tank you can brew a new tank in minutes
    • sold!I've had thermal pots before and know that it helps to preheat the pot with hot water before you brew
    • but I tried putting hot water in it before I made the
    • The result was a lot of hot water on the counter
    • No automatic shut off, water stays hot all the time which is good if you are using all day long, not so good if you are not
    • I figured it had to be because the water just was flowing to fast and didnt have enough time to soak in the coffee
    • Wish it were a 12 cup, but as fast as it makes a pot, no problem.
    • Fast delivery, works as it should.
    • I was filling the reservoir the night before and shutting the lid at brew time, but found it not as hot as if it's filled with fresh water when you're ready for a pot
    • It's leaking out the top and doesn't keep the water as hot as it should anymore.
    • My husband actually burnt himself as it poured all over him.
    • I've never been able to make coffee as good as with the Bunn with any other coffee maker.
    • I do however recommend purchasing the plastic pitcher as it is easier when filling the machine.
    • It comes out very hot, but not as hot as when you use a percolator
    • Mist wond r rful coffee pot ever made!!!
