Canary Flex Indoor Outdoor HD Security Camera, Weatherproof, Wire-Free or Plug in, Works with Alexa

    • I purchased this item for my parents because of all the features on it like away, home and night modes which were awesome but after 2 months and a few updates these features are no long usable which is very disappointing
    • However, sometime in October of this year the company locked most of the great features of this device behind a subscription based model, as some others have described it -- "Bait and switch" -- so now to get those features back someone must pay either an annual fee of $99 or a monthly fee of $9.99.I noticed the change sometime in November, and had to research online why my device didn't seem to be working correctly anymore, only to find out that the features were no longer available without paying for a subscription
    • Very easy setup, high quality streaming, and great features (especially the night mode).
    • Previously free features are now gone, since Canary has decided to charge for what were free basic features
    • when sleeping, so it obviously wakes me up.features - again, it has lost some features that where once free when i first signed up. not sure how they can do this to customer that bought unit with those features in mind
    • You can add multiple users to the account which is nice, and it has a nice feature to "invite" the folks who can have access
    • Then, last week Canary covertly sent a software update disabling basic, critical features on their products and offered to restore them for a monthly.
    • , Canary has taken away features once free and made them only available to paying customers.
    • My favorite feature is the fact that the unit automatically switches into away mode when I leave the house.....one less thing for me to remember in the morning
    • Bought this because it was a great camera with great features.
    • After purchasing 2 Canary cameras, indoor and outdoor,Canary had decided to revoke their initially free 12 hour playback feature,(as well as others)
    • ok with unlocking the best features via a subscription fee
    • I choose them because of their innovative features
    • All other features like night mode, full videos in a 24-hour period, live talk, etc. are only available through a membership that is now at $150 a year
    • All of the great features went behind a paywall
    • I can forgive new (albeit promised) features requiring additional investment, but I cannot abide free features being moved as well.
    • The good features of this product require membership
    • If these features were not available when I bought the product, I wouldn't have purchased it
    • The alerts are a great feature
    • Since there was no required add-on cost once you purchased the hardware for basic features (notifications and clips when movement happens, etc), I had started to consider switching to Canary as my primary security system (currently I use Canary in addition to a monitored home security system), as I thought the included features were sufficient for basic monitoring
    • Many other features also do not work properly
    • They crippled the free features to force everyone to move up - it's not just about video storage
    • They disabled all the good features that were free when we bought it a year ago, now they want to charge you 9.99 per month for it
    • How do you tout a feature that doesn't provide enough insight to take action?
    • They allowed you nice features that are now only available to members
    • Another great feature is that if you accidentally hit the brain-piercing alarm or 911 button, you have a chance to cancel the request before it happens
    • Many promises of adding new features to the free service, just to be denied any of the promises unless you subscribe to the monthly service of $9.99 per month per camera.
    • Love the new talk feature...
    • I didn't realize at first that it could monitor air quality or humidity, and these are great features built in
    • But looks like in the meantime, Canary pushed an updated that changed all the free features to a "pay-to-unlock" deal
    • Loved the product, ease of use, and free features
    • Love the view live feature and ability to talk to visitors.
    • Save yourself the frustration and get outdoor cameras from blink or ring - a company that is worth a damn and actually provides fast and meaningful customer support, and also doesn’t charge you an unseemly sun of money for basic services - and also, basic services being things that were originally advertised as free features that were selling points for a lot of people, and that were later price gouged to “keep up with the competition”, which is a ridiculous promise they will never be able to hold up
    • Picture quality is impressive and features are easy to use.
    • Canary has added features to their app like two way audio, and made live video load faster
    • I have been baited and switched because these free features are what were used on the home shopping channel to sell the camera and now after customers have purchased, they take this features away with no notification whatsoever
    • I and I imagine many others, bought the device under the premise that all these features were free and that a membership would just give me more cloud storage, not BASIC FEATURES that used to be free and are the bare minimum of what a security camera should provide
    • What is the next step towards their ultimate demise?I’ve had mine for well over two years and slowly once free features have disappeared over time behind a paywall
    • That seems to be the case with Canary, maker of somewhat popular connected security camera products, who has incited an angry mob by hiding once free and somewhat critical features behind a $9.99 monthly fee at the very least.
    • Then Canary pulled a bait and switch and now moved previously free features behind a paywall and is effectively holding your home hostage
    • However, now the company has taken all of the most useful features and made them paid only
    • Such a shame because we actually used and liked the free features extensively before all this.
    • The company has severely disabled this feature so that unless you are willing to pay for monthly membership, the cameras are worthless
    • I especially love the very basic features, like auto switching to "Away" when all members of the house have left (based on phone location)
    • A few days ago, the company turned off its free features of full length recording and night modes
    • but then they decided to take away all the advertised free features and make you pay a monthly fee which now makes this thing an over priced paper weight
    • Until Canary took the majority of those free basic features away recently and asked us start to paying a subscription to get them back.
    • Set up was easy and adding additional users so that it senses when your home is a good feature
    • And of course the audible alarm is a great feature!
    • Temperature and humidity monitoring is also a nice feature.
    • Has a lot of useful features - yes some other cameras have other useful features that thenCanary doesn’t have but they are making improvements.
    • Then, suddenly out of the blue (after two years), obviously because the company is struggling, mismanaging money, they disabled the while home recording feature, stating in the email to customers that not many people use this anyway.
    • No more recording or featured that prompted this purchase in the first place.
    • Now they’ve added new features to the paid membership, like innercom and website videoing, the free plan remained unchanged
    • I like the talk feature.
    • Obviously, the reason for removing the now missing features is to force the buyer to subscribe to Canary’s recording service
    • A few months after buying these systems, Canary decided to remove the useful features that caused me to buy their products, and tried to force me to pay a monthly fee for what I thought I had already bought.
    • Love the temperature and air quality feature, as much as security against intruders.
    • Now Canary has violated my trust by turning these free features into paid features
    • Great features, the LED light turns on when you check in, so this is not a stealthy camera at all
    • Some of the free features (which all of Canary's competitors have) include 24 hour video storage/\playback, motion notifications, night recording, and more
    • Was given as a gift Christmas 2016 and the free features were great for our needs when we were out of town, wanted to check in on our pets during the day/night, etc
    • Plus I love tuning in while at work to see my kids! The camera comes with a lot of great features for free, but we're considering a membership depending on what we think after a few more months use.
    • I purchased this camera knowing that they offered competitive features including full video recording, even when at home.
    • The other cool feature was the ability to schedule preferences in Night Mode including camera and activation settings during night time hours
    • It's mostly a you with a few useful features
    • However, as of October 2017 Canary has disabled all key features of their devices behind a $180 per year membership fee
    • It has some nice features and serves well as a room monitor, say to look in on a baby, or to check on one's pets
    • The ability to listen and talk is also a nice feature.
    • Great camera with very useful features and really good picture quality
    • Many nice features for such an inexpensive and competent device.
    • New features and continued updates even for early adopters makes me happy with this company.
    • They need better security features such as calling police or notifying the user if there is a break in
    • When I bought this item, they boasted a lot of free features that came with the camera including “night mode,” but recently they changed this to a paid membership
    • Canary moved many useful features like night mode behind a membership paywall.
    • Used to be decent but now you have to pay for the good features.
    • All these features are so important to me that I opened my Canary immediately upon receiving and put it to use
    • This product has great sound quality and audio, and great two way talking feature, plus the added live video monitoring
    • Ago because of amazing features for home security
    • I wish it had a few more features and maybe cell phone back up capability, but it is great as it is.
    • All the features I wanted in a security camera plus the added air quality sensor is great.
    • Shame on Canary for scamming buyers by showing free features and putting them behind membership plans after stealing their hard earned money
    • If Canary Flex supported the software "masking" feature that their other cameras have, then I would have far fewer false alarms of the bush in front of my condo swaying in the wind
    • My Pipers blow my Canary away with useful features not to mention the Piper is actually useful as a security device with an alarm that will sound automatically when motion or loud sounds are detected unlike the Canary that you have to first identify what triggered the
    • Canary has removed advertised features and broken their software in order to force a membership subscription
    • I love the talk feature, in case my husband left his phone in his car, or the puppies need to be told to get off of the furniture.
    • Zero star for the free feature they claimed they would provide!!!
    • In addition, they advertise before about capturing "precious moments" such as your baby's first step or having a great time hanging out with family; no longer a free feature!!!
    • After a year of being satisfied with the free features offered by Canary, the company has pay-walled the majority of its free services (at a minimum of $120/year).
    • Now my watch live feature doesn't work at all
    • I got maybe a week of free service then a email saying hey now you have to pay to use any of the good features on the device
    • I love the new features of being able to speak thru my phone and be heard at home
    • I still have the original box - they touted those features - now those features are paid only
    • As the customer base increases, Canary just jacked up the price for the member service plan, and removed the free features which is supposed to come for free when I purchase the products a couple year ago (like night mode, video recording in home mode etc.)
    • Overall, great value and price point for the function and features you get for such an awesome security monitoring device.
    • Approximately 1.5 years ago I carefully researched cameras and selected Canary because of the advertised free features
    • Very easy to install and operate and loaded with awesome features like night vision, zoom lens, air quality monitor and (very loud) alarm.
    • Photo quality is great and the sound feature is also wonderful.
    • Removing free features from you cameras and adding them to the paid for plans, is screwing over your customers
    • Also, the good features are subscription only and it's priced by camera
    • Canary took vital features like recording at night and recording more than 10 seconds at a time a put them behind a paywall
    • so it’s pretty much a useless feature
    • They quietly bricked all free users' devices by moving critical features like Night Mode behind a paywall
    • Whats insult to injury is the $800 wasted buying a product with expectations of certain free features all for them to be knocked to 4 bricks without your approval or want.
    • Love the siren feature and the fact I can talk to through the speakers when I am not at home.
    • All of the great features went behind a paywall
    • Many promises of adding new features to the free service, just to be denied any of the promises unless you subscribe to the monthly service of $9.99 per month per camera.
    • In summary, I would not have purchased this camera if I had known the free features provided at the beginning were just a tease and customer service would be so difficult to access.
    • At first, the purchase seemed like a good value due to reasonable security and convenient features such as night mode, air quality and temperature sensors, and decent motion detection and notification
    • They disabled all the good features that were free when we bought it a year ago, now they want to charge you 9.99 per month for it
    • They crippled the free features to force everyone to move up - it's not just about video storage
    • Purchased for functionality with free account with possibility of unlocking better features, storage, etc
    • I purchased Canary in August and loved the camera and its features
    • Bait and switch - I purchased over a year ago and the box shows everything included for no monthly fee - then after several months they took all useful features away
    • Love this camera, especially now that they added the talk and safe shield features
    • The Canary line of Cameras was fantastic and offered a lot of reliable and great features even without paying for their "Subscription Plan"
    • Here are just a few other Cameras (of many) that offer good features without paying for a subscription
    • almost all of the useful features of this item have been locked behind a paywall -- and a steep paywall at that -- to the tune of $120 per year just for one device
    • These were great features and in my opinion necessary features of an unmonitored security product
    • I bought the product for my parents house that live in a different state and being able to add multiple users to share the feed was a really cool feature, that way my
    • Promised features for free accounts got taken away making these cameras us less for our households uses
    • After purchasing 2 Canary cameras, indoor and outdoor,Canary had decided to revoke their initially free 12 hour playback feature,(as well as others)
    • We literally LOST features - like night mode and full videos
    • Also beginning the first week of Oct they took away very valuable features of the free service such as only showing 10 seconds of video
    • It has a nice feature that arms and disarms with our coming and going most of the time.
    • you used to have all the free features of night mode and full-length videos which are now only paid features
    • They sold this with the free service and now they have taken away most of those free features
    • If Canary was losing money due to cost overhead, then they should have changed their features and services for NEW customers.
    • I didn't expect like super clarity or features like a rechargeable battery or some ultra night mode etc, after all u get what u pay for right?Well this product really sucks
    • They have also removed free features like night mode and longer video recordings so if you don’t check your notification and go into live view right away, chances are you
    • All of the great features were taken out of their free membership
    • So as you can see, they have removed all of the free features that made this camera stand out from the rest.
    • I loved this product until just recently, when Canary started downgrading the features of this device to get people to switch to their expensive subscription plans
    • They sold me on the free features
    • Limited features without membership, but still enough capability to send notifications and video feeds
    • Picture quality is clear, sound is too, and having access to recordings while on the move is a great feature
    • Easy setup and many features
    • You now only get 10 seconds of recording, when before their "update" you had the entire movement plus about 10 seconds AFTER.Things like "night mode" and "home" are two functions I've lost control of because I will NOT buy into a $9.99 "membership."To LOSE features after owning a device for over one year is complete madness
    • They used their free service to bait customers then removed important features to save storage cost
    • And of course the audible alarm is a great feature!
    • This all-in-one, smart home device has a plethora of useful features that makes it stand out from the rest
    • I have had my couple Canary devices for a long time now, and they brought me great peace of mind, as I have been burglarized before, but I am deeply saddened by their recent update which put most of the free features that convinced many of us to originally get it in the first place under a pay wall
    • I really like its other features, also
    • Picture Quality is perfect and the two way communication is a fantastic feature.
    • This was a great device until Canary disabled certain important features and decided to charge $9 a month to turn them back on
    • All this went from being free features to paid features, overnight.
    • Being able to monitor from my phone is a wonderful feature.
    • There also to be a “night mode” that was part of the free subscription that was a useful Security feature to set parameters while your family should be sleeping.
    • On top of the video features, I have really loved the air quality features to help keep a safe environment for my baby
    • Hopefully canary brings the free features back
    • They changed the free features that were available when I bought this forcing us into a $150 subscription plan
    • As of the end of September, they have totally removed this feature from my security device and it's essentially useless without fee-based membership
    • The instant alerts to my Iphone are incredibly useful and i love the auto arm/disarm feature
    • Great device with awesome features, but it is ridiculous how the company keeps raising prices for the service from the 1st time I started looking into the device
    • I lost almost all my free features, and when I went to look into the subscription plan I see they have raised the price
    • Free full length video recording used to be a free feature accessible for 24
    • and we like the features to be able to zoom in and listen.
    • Canary took away free features, like night mode, which has dramatically reduced the value of this product
    • Then on Sept. 28 we got an email stating the features that were advertised (on the box) are no longer included as free.
    • Being able to schedule night mode, getting notifications when it detects anything, the auto-arm feature, clips saved to timeline, plus the cheap membership plan are all great features.
    • A few weeks ago, Canary decided to revoke all of it's previously free features
    • have been a early customer and bought this device because of the free features/modes
    • I now have a $350 plus system that provides ZERO features and only partially works when we aren't home
    • Oh, you want to take away 100% of the free features and only record when I'm gone?
    • Just upgraded the software to find that Canary stripped most of it’s once free features away without any warning
    • All the previously FREE features that are advertised are now locked behind a paywall
    • Canary now charges for previously free features
    • It looks good and the features are nice, but its not worth $125 and then a additional $120 a year after that.
    • Excellent product with great features and phone support - now all features have been arbitrarily removed unless I pay $20.00 for the two I have - 1 in each home
    • Now they’ve stripped most of the free features down and made the unit virtually useless unless you give in and pay the ransom they require for a “plan” so you can use what used to be free
    • They originally promised many features "unrestricted" for free, and later changed their business model to require a monthly subscription to retain said features
    • They are now disabling features of the product unless you sign-up for their monthly billing programming.
    • It looks good and the features are nice, but its not worth $125 and then a additional $120 a year after that.
    • Haven't had need to try this yet - just like it as a feature
    • We have a disabled dog at home and loved the feature that we could check in on him while we were at work.
    • As many others have already posted; Canary has made a confusing business decision, and now requires a subscription to access almost all of the useful features that were previously included in the price of the device
    • We chose Canary exclusively because of the free features it advertised as included, and set apart from the competition
    • After that point software updates made the unit unreliable and most of the useful features continue to be withdrawn and moved to a pay as one uses structure
    • Has an air quality and temp sensor which is a nice extra feature when you are
    • Also I bought it when it was featured on apples home page as compatible with apple home
    • It used to be great, but they have taken away literally every useful feature in order to force you to pay for a monthly membership
    • These features are no longer available and require a monthly subscription
    • A few weeks ago, Canary decided to revoke all of it's previously free features
    • Spent full price because of the free features
    • Love the features, and it’s more than just a security camera.
    • No free features anymore
    • I like the additional features of air quality monitoring, temperature, and humidity
    • Canary is a sneaky company who now sells a streaming device and took away all great features without a formal notification
    • I have had my system for over a year now but as other have said they just killed off all the features that the system originally came with
    • The air quality and temperature features are great bonuses as well.
    • The air quality and temperature features are great bonuses as well.
    • I lost almost all my free features, and when I went to look into the subscription plan I see they have raised the price
    • Removing *critical* features and moving them to a subscription plan instead.
    • I love the new feature that I can now talk to my family over Canary.
    • They haven't added useful new features, HomeKit support has not been implemented even though it is now able to be added using software authentication
    • The “hold until your safe” button is my favorite feature!
    • Since I bought it a few free features that made this worthwhile where moved to a paid plan.
    • This was a great device until Canary disabled certain important features and decided to charge $9 a month to turn them back on
    • I love all the cool features like night vision, live feed, 24 hour video storage, viewing capability from anywhere.
    • Monitoring my home when away and when sleeping are the most important features to me.
    • I also love and appreciate the new two-way talk feature.
    • After owning the product for a year, they decided to take away all free features (that they even included on the packaging) and made it a membership model
    • Latest software update puts all the important free features behind membership plan
    • Pros:-Easy to set up and install-Good motion detection and the event feed with video is intuitive and easy to useCons:-Software is sometimes a little janky, and the 'watch live' feature (and particularly the ability to speak to people/animals in the room) is pretty slow and not terribly useful
    • just an update scares me as well, as who knows what functionality will taken away next?Sad to say
    • The WIFI aspect of the unit does not work, and after several hours on WIFI the unit goes offline...therefore I have to keep it plugged into Ethernet, so I am limited as to where I can place the device
    • The app works as it should with about a 5-second delay, granted the internet can be spotty at my work (which is weird because it's a tech incubator)
    • My review will reflect countless other reviews, the Canary corporation performed a bait and switch, initially promising great home security, now charging the price of the device per year for what was included as a basic free for life feature.
    • but it's still not recording my motion as well as before
    • Dishonest company; Buyer beware as they may be going under very soon
    • n’t work really well for me.)Another beef I have with them is that there is no phone support, only chat or email.
    • n’t had any issue with connectivity yet
    • n’t provide masking capability with the flex.
