Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

    • I have taken great portrait photos of my new grandson
    • Not only is it a beautifully sharp macro lens, it makes a great portrait lens and has quickly become a favorite of mine for portrait work.
    • One of the least expensive L lenses, it doubles as an amazing macro as well as a really great portrait lens.
    • Like all Canon lenses of this quality level, it is built like a tank, does great portraits, and even better close ups of just about anything you can get light to.
    • Some of my best portrait shots have come from this lens - it is razor sharp and has exceptional bokeh.
    • That gives me a good portrait mode
    • I wanted a lens that would work for macro photography as well as portraits, which this lens satisfies both needs well and helps to justify it's cost.
    • However, this is not just a macro lens...take a step back and this instantly turn into one of the sharpest portrait lens you can own
    • I say that, because I have found that is an excellent portrait lens
    • This is a great lens! Takes fabulous portraits.
    • Beyond that, its nice and fast and can be used as a good portrait lens
    • 100mm focal length is plenty enough in my opinion and makes it a good portrait lens as well
    • This lens makes a great portrait or even a long landscape lens in the right situations, in addition to being a great 1:1 macro lens.
    • Wow ... a fantastic portrait lens on my full
    • Simply this; this lens can also serve as an excellent portrait lens
    • If you are looking for a great portrait lens, you won't be disappointed with this lens and if you are looking for a macro lens that you can use without the need of a tripod, then this is definitely lens you want
    • this is an excellent portrait lens and will be used for travel
    • I considered going for the 60mm since I am on a crop sensor, but decided to go for the L as I have seen it is a great portrait lens as well
    • The 100mm is close enough for great macro shots, and also wide enough to make a great portrait lens
    • I would imagine this to make an excellent portrait lens, although I tend to use my 'L' primes for that...
    • Overall, a great lens to start experimenting with macro, and that also does double-duty as a great portrait lens with IS that helps with lower light conditions.
    • It's extremely sharp from edge to edge and it's one of the greatest portrait lens if you wanna challenge your self
    • It also makes your portraits look superb
    • I've been wanting a macro to play around with and this looked like it would give not only great macro shots but decent portrait work, too.
    • I use it predominantly for macro work but the portraits I've taken with it are stunning
    • While it'll take great portraits, you'll have to be across the room for even a head-shot
    • so portraits are a bit limited but that is not my intended use
    • However, it is also one of the best portrait lenses you can buy
    • Also does some nice portrait shots!!!
    • If you dont own a tripod, you should get one, but for those who don't, and for those who want to use this as a fast portrait lens, the Canon
    • Also takes good portraits and pet pictures
    • She loves it and it takes great macro pictures and portraits and does well with other pictures as well.
    • Since I took the first picture I realized that the images are excellent, very clear, I have taken photos of insects in great detail, excellent portraits some photos of architectural details, birds etc. can make great pictures
    • I'm really impressed with how well the IS works on this lens, especially at portrait distances (and greater)
    • I found the 100mm to still be an excellent portrait lens - nice and sharp, although I would still choose my 135mm if I had enough room and enough light.
    • It really shines as a macro lens and also takes outstanding portrait and outdoor shots
    • Of all these, the lens I reach for most is the 100mm 2.8L. Its light, so I can carry it for long periods of time, its nicely sharp, arguably as
    • Now, they will likely not be as sharp as if they were on a tripod, but they will still be usable and this is a huge difference; you will be able to spontaneously capture things you would have missed before while setting up your tripod
    • A relatively slow shutter speed to capture the scene in front of me usually meant I'd have to compensate by ratcheting up the ISO or go wider with the aperture, which are not always or often good compromises, for image quality reasons as well as for reasons of creative choice.
    • It is a high-grade plastic and I think Canon decided to switch materials to reduce the weight of the lens, which I prefer as it gives good balance on my 5D mark I with battery grip.
    • You can use it as a medium telephoto, as well as, of course, for macro work.
    • It brings everything into focus, making my photography look as sharp as it can be.
