The focusing is not as fast as USM, but fast enough, quiet as you'd expect from STM, and perfectly accurate
-
Sharp focus, quiet movement
-
is that, although description claims "STM motor that enables silent and smooth focus tracking ", it in fact makes an audible sound you can hear in the video
-
Also, the autofocus is not as quiet as all the reviews pointed out amd the manual focus is not as soft and it makes a noise as you are turning the lens to focus...
-
But, neither of those are F2.8 lenses, and the ones that are F2.8 are very expensive and lack silent focus.
-
It worked fine for 15-20 pictures, then it started making whirring sounds in manual focus and at times would not even manual focus at all.
-
Always in my bag shoots very nicely focus could be quicker but it does the job well.
-
Fast focus and quiet with the STM motor if you want to use for video.
-
The focus is very slow.
-
It's also excellent for video's and has a crazy quiet focus motor
-
I bought this lens three months ago, and sometime between then and now the manual focus stopped working - I have used mostly AF.
-
On the 80D, the continuous focus is smooth and quiet; works great (dual pixel AF FTW).
-
Getting the focus/blur effect with this lens is super easy and a lot of fun
-
I have a 7D with a 50mm f1.4 and have had some soft focus issues with it, so I decided to spend the $150 on a smaller, low-risk lense
-
Very crisp photos and quick focus on low light shoots.
-
Quiet focusing great for video work
-
Lightning fast focus and VERY sharp, it is my go to for indoor sports on my 80D.
-
Anything that will require a fast shutter though, will also require a fast focus.
-
The focus is fast, and it does well in most indoor lighting situations without cranking up the ISO too much
-
On the positive side, it does have sharp and pretty quiet focusing.
-
The electronic focusing is really poor
-
Focus is great and fast (faster than the kit lens for sure)
-
Manual focus on the lens did not work at all.
-
Its only problem is that the focus ring is electronic and not mechanical, so manual focus is difficult
-
Fast focus
-
Smooth transitional focus that is so quiet your mic won’t pick it up.
-
Sharp, great depth of field, nice bokeh, fast and quiet focus, and barely bigger than a body cap.
-
it had a very smooth auto focus.
-
It's also excellent for video's and has a crazy quiet focus motor
-
It's incredibly frustrating to take a photo only to realize the focus is entirely messed up once it's on a large screen.
-
On the T3i, well, this model predates the continuous focusing for video that later models have (T4i and on).
-
But, neither of those are F2.8 lenses, and the ones that are F2.8 are very expensive and lack silent focus.
-
The focus is fast enough to keep up with my toddler
-
Manually focusing is near impossible
-
but it's a bit noisy when it auto focuses.
-
A quick note for stills – STM is meant for silent and smooth video focus, but is just fine for most photography.
-
Nice and fast focus in low light
-
It's zoom enough =) I love the really short focus on this lens, it doubles as a decent macro lens and a stellar portrait lens on crop sensor cameras
-
Smooth auto focus
-
I have not had any trouble getting proper focus with this lens even when shooting quick moving subjects like my dog running around at the dog park
-
I have not had any trouble getting proper focus with this lens even when shooting quick moving subjects like my dog running around at the dog park
-
It has a fairly quiet auto focus, and the ring is really smooth for manual focus
-
But the focusing is quite slow, even when paired with the 70D.
-
This lens is an odd looking, thin APS-C Format "pancake" lens that has one aspherical element, a single step motor for quiet auto-focus, and a seven blade diaphragm
-
I am very careful with all of my equipment, however this lens no longer has a usable auto-focus or focus detector
-
The images are sharp and clear and the f-stop/focal length combination is phenomenal
-
It performs great a s a walk around lens as well, though you dont have a zoom range like on a traditional walk around lens it gives great wide angle shots as well as close ups second to none
