From the Man...
If you were a fan of Super Metroid, do not finish reading this review- buy it now.
Super metroid has been called one of the... if not THE... most well designed game of all time.
Also, being a huge fan of Super Metroid and Castlevania, this game not only throws in its own goodies, but has that good ol' "old school" feel to it.
More closely resembling Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES), or to be quite honest, Super Metroid (SNES), SOTN sprinkles the tried and true play mechanics with a good many RPG elements
, There's a certain rewarding thrill behind playing a game with this design, and the developers are either fans of that design, are worked on super metroid themselves.
The controls are solid, you can belt spells out Street Fighter style at a moments notice or backdash for dodging without thinking about it.
The graphics are impressive, for it's time, as well as the animation and control
Despite the 2-D, the control and character movement is greatly enhanced thanks to better animation and smooth controls
The breathtaking graphics, the rich and haunting soundtrack, the perfect control--all of this adds up to nothing compared to the gameplay itself, which is of unrivaled magnitude
The only game that would rival this one for a great soundtrack is "Quest 64" on the N64 (A sleeper hit, regardless of what anyone make joke about it!
The music is top notch, and the soundtrack is now considered a classic among game scores
With that being said, seeing that this game was directly influenced by Super Metroid, and perhaps some of the other Nintendo entries to the series, I must say that the Metroid-style gameplay was executed beautifully with all kinds of different suits (or cloaks) you can pick up, fluid controls, and an absolutely fantastic soundtrack that fits each and every one of its perspective environments the tracks were made for
The soundtrack is also very well done in an orchestral manner which suits the game perfectly
Many creatures scream as they explode/melt/burn/vanish/etc
To do so you have to explore the castle throughly, meet certain conditions and unlock the REVERSE CASTLE, which is practically a reverse version of castle you play, but with tougher enemies and more awesome bosses
The bosses are tough, as are many of the areas of the castle, and figuring out how to progress in some places can be a challenge, but the rewards are great.
An outstanding side-scroller with a monstrous array of items, enemies, weapons, special moves, and completely disturbing bosses.
To top it off, defeating them and making your way through the castle rewards you with spectacular boss fights
Lastly, and most entertainingly, the bosses in this game are amazing.
I liked the plot, the music (oh, man, the music is just to die for), the sprites are so darn well made, the game has this special atmosphere that grabs you and puts you there, in Castle Dracula.
Never has a Castlevania game had such outstanding music than this.
And yes the music is good, it's the symphony of the night afterall
One more thing, the music and graphics of this game are GORGEOUS!
A miserable little pile of MEMES!This had terrible voiceovers but great music and gameplay
So here's another: the gameplay, graphics, and sound are all top-notch and leagues above all those other 3D games
The animation of your character, the monsters, the castle details and even some of the 3D backgrounds are top notch for the PS1 as well
The characters and backgrounds are very well-drawn, the tunes set the tone well, the controls are top notch, the storyline is great, and the animation is perfect
Castlevania has a legacy of releasing the top-notch quality games that gamers have come to love and enjoy
The music is top notch, and the soundtrack is now considered a classic among game scores
Excellent gfx, a delightful mixture of 2d platform gameplay with RPG elements, and an awesome musical score that really makes it a Symphony of the Night
It has all the things that make a game great: challenging battles, crisp graphics, hidden secrets, an enchantingly spooky score, and an exciting background story
It's enthralling musical score and wonderful animation may not equate to more than ten hours on your first try, but I doubt anyone will get everything in the game on their first try
Although the graphics are over 10 years old, the colors are soo vibrant, and the orchestrated score is fantastic- prolly the best of any video game ive ever played
Take one part traditional Castlevania, one part RPG and two parts Metroid, draft the entire thing to a wonderful musical score and you end up with one of the top 5 games ever for the original Playstation
Many creatures scream as they explode/melt/burn/vanish/etc
The music, the artwork, the characters and monsters, the gameplay
Many creatures scream as they explode/melt/burn/vanish/etc
This game is just awsome, the gameplay is fun, the graphics are great and the music is kick ass
From the music to the artwork, everything is simply a pleasure for the senses and when coupled with solid simplistic and fun gameplay you really can't argue
Many creatures scream as they explode/melt/burn/vanish/etc
Still, the graphics in Symphony of the Night are not bad at all, even for the year 2003
The graphics are spectacular for 2D, the music is the best of any game I've ever played (why no soundtrack available??)So why not 5 stars
Even in this day and age of intense three dimensional graphics and cutting edge video game consoles pushing hundreds of thousands of polygons it's always nice to play something "retro" with charm, personality, and in-depth engrossing gameplay
This game is just awsome, the gameplay is fun, the graphics are great and the music is kick ass
After a Maria encounter, you can't stop thinking about her beautiful pale face, those big beautiful eyes, that smooth relaxing voice, and so then what happens after that is, when you are in the middle of a serious battle, you almost always die because you can't stop thinking about Maria's beautiful face
Story-Despite hilariously bad voice acting (the voice of Alucard is awesome but the rest of the cast sucks)and dialogue, the story line is actually pretty good
Alucard is back and badder than ever...with awful voice acting to boot
Flaws-despite bad voice acting and dialogue, the challenge can be a little unbalanced at times
The only weak part of this game is the voice acting which literally sucks (pun intended
But as frustrating as these battles can seem at first, with a little trial and error and a whole lot of perseverence any gamer should be able to eventually get past which again leads to a true addiction to this title and extends it's replay value
Alucard defeats him, and suggests that he lost the battle because he lost his ability to love after Lisa's death; Dracula then quotes the biblical verse Matthew 16:26, and learns that Lisa's final words were of eternal love for him and a plea not to hate, or at least harm, humanity
Alucard refuses to join him in his revenge, and the two battle
Many creatures scream as they explode/melt/burn/vanish/etc
