There is no padding on the inside of the plastic clip to protect a surface, so you must attach your own padding if your application requires protection.
I bought this lamp for a project and I modified the whole thing and for my application works perfect

I also did not receive the free light bulb that others claimed to have received.
It's a great little lamp -- easy to clip on to a shelf, provides great light for reading and is easy to adjust.

This light is great and with a sturdy clip that holds and grips to table.
When clamped on a vertical headboard so the clamp is on the top edge... the light just sags all the way down under its own weight

5 stars if it didnt have the ugly plastic clip at the bottom
Glad a nice looking lamp has a clip though since my cats knock over everything
This light is great and with a sturdy clip that holds and grips to table.
Mine is clipped on a 2 inch shelf to illuminate a dark laundry area
link of neck, strong clip, on , off switch failed after a few turns
