Reviews around price (5.00 of 5)

  • The price is affordable, the EQ mount is good for the price
  • I think this is a great intro to the hobby for a good price.
  • I know I am asking for a bit when the price is so good but something to be aware that maybe common as it was more of a tripod issue and not really the telescope itself
  • This is a very high-quality, solid telescope at a great price
  • Still a good price for a potentially lifelong telescope

Reviews around value (4.63 of 5)

  • Not that easy to all set up and line up with what u need but soon as u get it its accurate
  • -- The product is a good value, but you should plan to invest in replacement 1.25" eyepieces and a moon filter for any serious viewing.
  • That being said, it can be a good value if you like to tinker.
  • We finally found someone who has experience with telescopes and he said it has a defect of some kind or is just missing a
  • If you are a beginner and want to look at things "out of the box" get yourself a refractor and spend as much as you can afford on it

Reviews around night (4.55 of 5)

  • also I’m in Alaska where a clear night is truly clear and a 15 minute drive gets me away from light pollution
  • , I enjoy the beauty of the planets every night and sometimes some deep sky objects as well.
  • n’t recommend extending the ‘feet’ much, if at all, or it shakes pretty badly
  • It is much larger than I thought it would be and he has been able to enjoy it on clear nights
  • Then it happened - I got a clear night and decided to give this telescope another try

Reviews around detail (4.40 of 5)

  • There is a long and informative post on this site that explains in great detail how to collimate this telescope
  • i had it i saw the moon jupiter and saturn with great detail
  • n’t recommend extending the ‘feet’ much, if at all, or it shakes pretty badly
  • But i was a bit disappointed i see stars but not in depth and with great detail as they claim.

Reviews around beginner (4.26 of 5)

  • Given that using an equatorial telescope is inherently time consuming and requires a lot of patience this poorly designed and manufactured device will discourage most beginners, and end up in a storage locker or as a never-used showpiece
  • The images you see are pretty good for a beginner as well
  • my main issues, - beginners need good working equipment to enjoy the experience
  • Well for Christmas we planned on getting her a good "beginner telescope"
  • Great beginner scope - learn RA & Dec. techniques and see good stuff!

Reviews around view (4.22 of 5)

  • Even when using higher quality eyepieces (sold separately) the views were filled with coma and just plain awful
  • This telescope is great for looking at the moon gives a fairly clear view
  • When trying to look through it, even a slight tap on the scope will cause it to shudder and make viewing difficult until it dies down.
  • and I was able to get really good views of the moon without much effort.
  • Can get a good view of the moon with the lenses that come with it.

Reviews around experience (3.91 of 5)

  • This experience makes me very disappointed
  • I read Amazon reviews and was influenced until I started reading on Stargazing forums and saw a repetitive history of bad experiences.
  • Overall, I do recommend getting it - you do get a lot of power for the price, and it's a great educational experience to manipulate the telescope yourself
  • This is my first telescope and all of the issues listed above made for a good learning experience.
  • Overall I had a great experience with this telescope and I cannot wait to look at the sky again

Reviews around star (3.84 of 5)

  • n’t recommend extending the ‘feet’ much, if at all, or it shakes pretty badly
  • it provided a nice feel and great site of the moon and some stars
  • Sometimes has troubles finding the right star
  • We finally found someone who has experience with telescopes and he said it has a defect of some kind or is just missing a
  • meaning every star and planet looks blurry and blown out.

Reviews around scope (3.75 of 5)

  • Overall, if you want to get started in stargazing this is a great scope
  • This is a very, very bad scope which Celestron should stop making and selling.
  • It's a good starter scope if you do not have those issues as I did.
  • Celestron's customer service is spot on and is as a good as this scope is bad
  • The EQ mount is usable, but the aluminum tripod legs wobble the scope too much

Reviews around quality (3.70 of 5)

  • The pictures make it look good, but it is of poor quality.
  • pieces)- Aligning the viewfinder scope is very hard because the mount is poor quality
  • Very poor quality, these people should not be in the telescope
  • If would want a good quality beginning telescope I recommend the Meade Infinity 102.
  • I have had many EQ mount telescopes and I have never seen quality this poor from a company like Celestron

  • The pieces are not a complete, bad product, I would not recommend buying them.
  • This product does not work, and the picture is different than what I received.
  • It's very bad product ,I put it together can't see nothing

Reviews around moon (3.59 of 5)

  • the only thing you can really see with this is the moon so for the price its expensive
  • Well for starters it was great at viewing the moon, jupiter as a small white dot and it’s moons, mars is a red blob, and Saturn is a small dot and a ring around it but very blurry
  • The controls are a BIG pain to use I was having trouble finding the moon with this thing it takes a while to find things especially with the cheap slow motion controls, the tripod is fairly sturdy it didn't really give me problems
  • The moon will blow you away and you can see great detail on the lunar surface.
  • Great for me as a beginner ..the moon looks freaking awesome with this

Reviews around image (3.39 of 5)

  • The 4mm does not offer a clear image on anything other than the moon so far.
  • Casual test with one of the eyepieces showed very good 'normal' (not inverted) image
  • but I can’t see anything smaller than the moon (and what a spectacular image
  • I just wish it came with some kind of nice storage case and that there was a way to keep it more steady when you are viewing because every little bump of the telescope makes the image shake really bad at such high magnifications
  • even with the main bolt tightened further one still couldn’t touch once sighted else you could see nothing but a shaky image

Reviews around washer (3.09 of 5)

  • If you are a beginner and want to look at things "out of the box" get yourself a refractor and spend as much as you can afford on it
  • You will need to add a steal donut washer and hard plastic slide donut washer just in front of the secondary mirror to ease the fine adjustments to the secondary mirror
  • Unfortunately, this telescope "works" as it was designed to work, which is poorly
  • not as well as you can with more premium telescopes
  • We finally found someone who has experience with telescopes and he said it has a defect of some kind or is just missing a

Reviews around plastic (2.06 of 5)

  • n’t recommend extending the ‘feet’ much, if at all, or it shakes pretty badly
  • First, the fine tuning adjustment rods are very jumpy when trying to follow or spot objects very far away, and secondly the spotting scope mount is made from a cheap, flexible plastic that can accidentally be adjusted by simply and unknowingly touching it, making it almost impossible to spot distant small objects such as the gas giants making it very annoying
  • If you are a beginner and want to look at things "out of the box" get yourself a refractor and spend as much as you can afford on it

Reviews around space object (2.04 of 5)

  • Unfortunately, this telescope "works" as it was designed to work, which is poorly
  • I bought this for my niece because she can't see any deep space objects with the one she has
  • As deep space objects and ease of viewing without constant efforts to adjust movement of scope to keep objects insight is troublesome.
  • NebulaAnd many other deep space objects given a crispy eye piece and no polution.
  • not as well as you can with more premium telescopes

Reviews around bite (1.99 of 5)

  • The gears in the tripod are a bit jumpy, not as smooth as I had expected.
  • The scope is a bit annoying to get aligned, but once it is aligned, the views are amazing and very clear
  • Smaller, lighter and a bit more powerful
  • The telescope is somewhat better than the terrible reviews, and quite a bit worse than the glowing ones
  • Many work perfectly right out of the box but with this type of scope the mirrors can need a tiny bit of adjustment once you receive it.

Reviews around mirror (1.83 of 5)

  • The scope needed collimating right out of box, the secondary mirror very loose
  • Many work perfectly right out of the box but with this type of scope the mirrors can need a tiny bit of adjustment once you receive it.
  • It uses a cheap spherical mirror instead of a parabolic one and then tries to correct for the spherical aberration with a barlow lens at the bottom of the focuser
  • Then you will be looking for a better mount and maybe a bigger mirror..maybe like an 8 inch
  • I assume the mirror or corrector are defective, otherwise you would'ent get the large number of positive reviews

Reviews around control (1.67 of 5)

  • If you are willing to put up with the cheap slow motion controls and collimating the telescope and aligning the finderscope and only to look at the moon and some planets then this telescope is for you
  • n’t recommend extending the ‘feet’ much, if at all, or it shakes pretty badly
  • my problem was how cheap the slow motion controls were it takes forever to find something especially since whatever you are looking at is slowly moving away
  • The slow motion controls are plastic and feel like they can snap any second when you turn them, they're pretty cheaply made thats the only thing I feel is cheaply made though
  • In addition, the slow motion controls felt very cheap like they would break after a couple uses as did the finder scope

Reviews around motion (1.46 of 5)

  • Support is 9-5 M-F.
  • Although the slow motion controls do take a little getting used to if you're like me and never used them before.
  • n’t recommend extending the ‘feet’ much, if at all, or it shakes pretty badly
  • The motion of the scope is smooth so tracking a planet is pretty easy with the adjustment knobs
  • The slow motion controls are plastic and feel like they can snap any second when you turn them, they're pretty cheaply made thats the only thing I feel is cheaply made though

Reviews around breeze (1.00 of 5)

  • slightest breeze causes jitters and shakes.
  • a slight breeze would cause the image in your scope to shake/vibrate
  • The slightest breezes will cause shaking.
