  • This is a very high-quality, solid telescope at a great price
  • I know I am asking for a bit when the price is so good but something to be aware that maybe common as it was more of a tripod issue and not really the telescope itself
  • Still a good price for a potentially lifelong telescope
  • The price is affordable, the EQ mount is good for the price
  • I think this is a great intro to the hobby for a good price.

value

Reviews around value (4.63 of 5)

  • Unfortunately, this telescope "works" as it was designed to work, which is poorly
  • That being said, it can be a good value if you like to tinker.
  • Not that easy to all set up and line up with what u need but soon as u get it its accurate
  • If you are a beginner and want to look at things "out of the box" get yourself a refractor and spend as much as you can afford on it
  • -- The product is a good value, but you should plan to invest in replacement 1.25" eyepieces and a moon filter for any serious viewing.

night

Reviews around night (4.55 of 5)

  • also I’m in Alaska where a clear night is truly clear and a 15 minute drive gets me away from light pollution
  • It is much larger than I thought it would be and he has been able to enjoy it on clear nights
  • and I can't wait to take it outside on a clear summer night to check it out and look for the moon craters
  • n’t recommend extending the ‘feet’ much, if at all, or it shakes pretty badly
  • , I enjoy the beauty of the planets every night and sometimes some deep sky objects as well.

detail

Reviews around detail (4.40 of 5)

  • Although I have not been able to make out the stripes on Jupiter, as some reviewers say they can, I can see Jupiter and its moons, and truly terrific detail of the moon
  • i had it i saw the moon jupiter and saturn with great detail
  • But i was a bit disappointed i see stars but not in depth and with great detail as they claim.
  • There is a long and informative post on this site that explains in great detail how to collimate this telescope
  • n’t recommend extending the ‘feet’ much, if at all, or it shakes pretty badly

beginner

Reviews around beginner (4.26 of 5)

  • Well for Christmas we planned on getting her a good "beginner telescope"
  • Given that using an equatorial telescope is inherently time consuming and requires a lot of patience this poorly designed and manufactured device will discourage most beginners, and end up in a storage locker or as a never-used showpiece
  • Great for me as a beginner ..the moon looks freaking awesome with this
  • Great beginner telescope for a young enthusiast starter
  • my main issues, - beginners need good working equipment to enjoy the experience

view

Reviews around view (4.22 of 5)

  • Can get a good view of the moon with the lenses that come with it.
  • When trying to look through it, even a slight tap on the scope will cause it to shudder and make viewing difficult until it dies down.
  • The telescope is capable of providing good views of the planets and moon.
  • Once the scope falls out of collimation, which it will eventually do, the views will suffer tremendously.
  • This telescope is great for looking at the moon gives a fairly clear view

experience

Reviews around experience (3.91 of 5)

  • The instructions ruined the experience of using the telescope.
  • Overall, I do recommend getting it - you do get a lot of power for the price, and it's a great educational experience to manipulate the telescope yourself
  • It is one of the items I recommend upgrading or adding to enhance your viewing experience.
  • Things I recommend buying to enhance your viewing experience.
  • Overall I had a great experience with this telescope and I cannot wait to look at the sky again

  • We finally found someone who has experience with telescopes and he said it has a defect of some kind or is just missing a
  • n’t recommend extending the ‘feet’ much, if at all, or it shakes pretty badly
  • it provided a nice feel and great site of the moon and some stars
  • *any * detail, the stars look like comets with a 1970s TV camera light burst effect.
  • It's definitely a nice gift for someone who has everything and loves the stars.

scope

Reviews around scope (3.75 of 5)

  • Celestron's customer service is spot on and is as a good as this scope is bad
  • I can't recommend this scope for any beginners.....way too complicated with no help.
  • After very little time collimating, this little scope is great
  • The EQ mount is usable, but the aluminum tripod legs wobble the scope too much
  • Wish it had a better mount but great scope for beginner to novice.

quality

Reviews around quality (3.70 of 5)

  • Excelent quality, and a good light gathering potential for the price
  • I spent weeks trying to find one that was of good quality but for a good price
  • Lenses are not so good quality, but at this price range what do you expect.
  • pieces)- Aligning the viewfinder scope is very hard because the mount is poor quality
  • Very poor quality, these people should not be in the telescope

  • It's very bad product ,I put it together can't see nothing
  • Great product for a beginner even when they are over 60 years old.
  • I'm sure it will be an amazing product with great features once I master this declination and R.A axis thing
  • Great product and great detail great for the beginner and seasoned observer.

moon

Reviews around moon (3.59 of 5)

  • The controls are a BIG pain to use I was having trouble finding the moon with this thing it takes a while to find things especially with the cheap slow motion controls, the tripod is fairly sturdy it didn't really give me problems
  • Only objects that are good in this telescope are the moon, Jupiter, and Saturn.
  • Great for me as a beginner ..the moon looks freaking awesome with this
  • I'm still not good at finding planets yet but the moon is amazing through this telescope
  • Well for starters it was great at viewing the moon, jupiter as a small white dot and it’s moons, mars is a red blob, and Saturn is a small dot and a ring around it but very blurry

image

Reviews around image (3.39 of 5)

  • It has good magnification, but I found myself using the Celestron 70 mm travel telescope much more often than this one, and with much better image quality.
  • but I can’t see anything smaller than the moon (and what a spectacular image
  • One must wait a few seconds for the image to stop shaking
  • I just wish it came with some kind of nice storage case and that there was a way to keep it more steady when you are viewing because every little bump of the telescope makes the image shake really bad at such high magnifications
  • If the alignment is off slightly the telescope produces a blurry image even if the primary mirror is aligned properly.

plastic

Reviews around plastic (2.06 of 5)

  • not as well as you can with more premium telescopes
  • First, the fine tuning adjustment rods are very jumpy when trying to follow or spot objects very far away, and secondly the spotting scope mount is made from a cheap, flexible plastic that can accidentally be adjusted by simply and unknowingly touching it, making it almost impossible to spot distant small objects such as the gas giants making it very annoying
  • The finder scope on this telescope is made of cheap plastic, like a toy, which will not stay in alignment due to the complete lack of quality of its materials and design.
  • Second the focuser is sloppy, eyepieces were cheap plastic
  • Unfortunately, this telescope "works" as it was designed to work, which is poorly

space object

Reviews around space object (2.04 of 5)

  • As deep space objects and ease of viewing without constant efforts to adjust movement of scope to keep objects insight is troublesome.
  • I bought this for my niece because she can't see any deep space objects with the one she has
  • Unfortunately, this telescope "works" as it was designed to work, which is poorly
  • I bought this telescope with the hopes of being able to see the basics, that's all - not nebulae or deep space objects, etc
  • It is important to note that this magnification can only yield sharp images after collimating carefully, but it was worth it as I've been able to observe Jupiter's main cloud bands as well as the red spot, Saturns well-defined rings and the Cassini division, Venus' phases and some minor details on its clouds, of course the Moon's craters and superficial features, as well as some deep space objects such as open and globular clusters, double stars and the Andromeda galaxy

bite

Reviews around bite (1.99 of 5)

  • The telescope is somewhat better than the terrible reviews, and quite a bit worse than the glowing ones
  • For a bit more money the Celestron NexStar series is great and most of those are motorized making stargazing a bit easier.
  • The gears in the tripod are a bit jumpy, not as smooth as I had expected.
  • Many work perfectly right out of the box but with this type of scope the mirrors can need a tiny bit of adjustment once you receive it.

mirror

Reviews around mirror (1.83 of 5)

  • Then you will be looking for a better mount and maybe a bigger mirror..maybe like an 8 inch
  • One advantage was ,I could shake the entire secondary mirror and watched into main tube
  • when you collimate, doing this will let you see both the secondary mirror and the primary, also note, this went through shipping and if it arrived with all the mirrors aligned and ready to go, get a power ball ticket because you'd be the luckiest person on the planet4
  • I assume the mirror or corrector are defective, otherwise you would'ent get the large number of positive reviews
  • Arrived with the primary mirror completely loose and bouncing around inside the tube

control

Reviews around control (1.67 of 5)

  • If you are willing to put up with the cheap slow motion controls and collimating the telescope and aligning the finderscope and only to look at the moon and some planets then this telescope is for you
  • The RA fine tune control is awful and that is putting to mildly
  • Although the slow motion controls do take a little getting used to if you're like me and never used them before.
  • In addition, the slow motion controls felt very cheap like they would break after a couple uses as did the finder scope
  • After oiling both of them they are now moving properly but still seem a little tight especially the Right Ascension control.

motion

Reviews around motion (1.46 of 5)

  • The motion of the scope is smooth so tracking a planet is pretty easy with the adjustment knobs
  • In addition, the slow motion controls felt very cheap like they would break after a couple uses as did the finder scope
  • If you are willing to put up with the cheap slow motion controls and collimating the telescope and aligning the finderscope and only to look at the moon and some planets then this telescope is for you
  • Although the slow motion controls do take a little getting used to if you're like me and never used them before.
  • The slow motion controls are plastic and feel like they can snap any second when you turn them, they're pretty cheaply made thats the only thing I feel is cheaply made though
