I would replace it at half the cost, but for the asking price, this product is far too expensive given it’s propensity to break if you blink at it wrong.
If you like good coffee, and will invest the time and money to learn how to properly brew with the chemex, then this is a great product!
Great product and a great way to enjoy your favorite coffee bean
Great product, just don't knock them off your countertop!
n’t love our that it breaks easily and dishwasher sediment sticks to the inside.
I laugh often because people will comment on my fancy coffee-maker (yes, I went for the wood collar), when it is actually about as primitive as it gets.
It's my second because I learned the hard way you have to be careful, especially around a hard sink
I have tried many ways to make coffee at home and this is by far the best way for me
Speaking of beans, I've learned the hard way that the Chemex really shows the difference between beans roasted a few months ago and beans roasted a few days ago
Together with the Chemex filters this is the best way to make coffee!
It does take some time to brew manually with the Chemex but the way the brewer is designed gets maximum flavor, no bitterness from coffee
Much more intense flavor and caffeine kick than drip maker, OR my aeropress
I don't like strong coffee and am finding that no matter how few grinds, the coffee is stronger and a completely different flavor that what I'm used to.
incidentally, I always grind decaf and regular together (Organic), so I can get the strong flavor without so much caffeine.
Great flavor and a cleaner cup of coffee than French Press.
Pretty durable too - one of our cats knocked the thing of the counter and the handle came off but the rest is still intact and I'm still brewing coffee with it!
There are other reviews that speak to the good things of this coffee maker much more eloquent than I can be
I love this thing and am excited every morning to make my coffee using my Chemex
The thing tipped over and broke before I could even make my first cup
A huge chunk just explodes off the thing... and I was so excited for my new hipster coffee this morning...
Excellent quality and most importantly, I'm making coffee my way
The inferior quality "glass" utilized in the manufacturing of these carafes can not and does not tolerate the repeated hot water contact during the daily process of brewing coffee
Back to the review, if you grind the coffee slightly course and use a pour over kettle you can get a quality, excellent tasting cup of coffee in less than 10 minutes from a standing start
Firstly, you have to start with good quality water and beans, once you've got that, this coffee maker will not disappoint
The quality of the glass is disappointing and should have been better.
It takes a little longer to make than other coffee makers (simply because you boil the water and slowly pour over coffee grounds) but it's well worth it
no problem getting someone to pour the hot water over the coffee grounds.
It takes a little more time to boil water and wet the grounds but the results are the rewards
Always boil a little more water than you actually need.
Simply stick the filter inside and pour hot water and great tasting coffee
The last one I had broke :-( Makes GREAT coffee though and unlike automatic coffee makers you don't have to worry about gross plastic from China.
Beautiful, functional and no heated plastic leaching who knows what into my morning brew.
After discovering my coffee maker could be leeching potential harmful chemicals (hot water contacting plastic materials) into my daily cup of heaven, research led me to the pour over method.
There is absolutely no comparison to using the cheap plastic drip filters.
My favorite coffee maker: Makes the best tasting coffee, easy to clean--no weird/unreachable areas, no plastic, looks cool.
n’t love our that it breaks easily and dishwasher sediment sticks to the inside.
I love that I can brew coffee in the morning and leave it on the stove top (low heat) and keep my brew warm all morning
Really like this, but wish it was just the slightest bit thicker for better heat retention.
The wooden collar protects you from the heated glass as you're pouring, which is a nice addition as well
Just what we wanted as we hated heating up plastic drip coffee makers and then throwing them into the landfill when they died or the glass container broke.
I've played around with grind size and weight a bit to "fine tune" the taste, but I've been very happy with a medium grind setting (right in the middle of my grinder's finest and coursest settings) and 42g of coffee for 700g of water (just under the suggested 17:1 water to coffee ratio that many coffee snobs prefer). The coffee out of this chemex brewer is so much better than the automatics I've tried, anything I've had out of my Keurig, of anything I've had in any coffee shop (except those that manually make pour over brews).
Start by pouring 2x the coffee weight to "bloom" your grounds (50g in this example and try to get ALL the grounds wet) and pause for about 30-45 secs
As you just wake up its a soothing process to perfectly measure coffee grinds, boil water, and SLOOOOWWLY pour over water to brew
Makes an excellent wedding gift, too.
I highly recommend getting a scale to weigh your coffee grinds and your water.
The filters are very sturdy, and seem to allow most of the interesting aromatics and flavors into the cup, while blocking many of the bitter oils that make it through in your typical drip coffee machine
The unique filters also get rid of the harmful oils and chemicals from coffee left by press coffee makers that can raise bad cholesterol.
The Chemex coffee filter was thick and filtered out all the fats, oils, sediment (you could see them clinging to the sides of the filter) and you could see the coffee clean and dark sitting in the carafe section without the harmful-to-your-health stuff swirling inside.
The paper filters do wonders for pulling bitter oils out of the coffee, and once it's been brewed the carafe is a welcome addition to any table.
I recommend the Chemex Natural Filters to filter out impurities and unhealthy oils, acidity, bitterness, fats and sediments.
