This is a mug warmer, not a hot plate; it is designed to take something that is already hot and keep it hot

Can you imagine the fire hazard if the hot plate continues at 230 degrees and a piece of paper or tissue falls on it

But those noises occur only while the hot plate is warming up.

But the beauty of this hot plate is that it has a thermostat and you can turn the temperature down!

It's a good product but all they did was slap a BIG ear on for a handle

dont know what kind of material and when the mug is hot it expels a very disagreeable smell from the chemical compund from the sleeve, this is very discomfortable because you cant enjoy your beverage thinking wheter that smell is carcirogen or not

Unfortunately there is a burning plastic smell whenever the unit is turned on and the hot plate keeps heated even when you press the power button to turn off
