One thing I noticed, the coffee isn't as piping hot as it used to be, so perhaps the water isn't being heated at an ideal temperature over the beans, producing bitter tasting coffee

If you use too fine a grind, the unit will overflow and if you use too coarse a grind, you will get bad tasting coffee.6
