Cuisinart DCC-1150BK 10-Cup Classic Thermal Programmable Coffeemaker, Black

    • I have to put hot water in the pot portion to warm up the aluminum and i have to put water in the reservoir to get to room temperature before brewing
    • I only saw the CLEAN light come on after about 4 weeks and did the vinegar cleaning and got a new filter by then (I suspect that frequency will increase with age of unit). We have rural well hard water that tastes very good but the hard water with minimal iron is tough on appliances not using soft water (which is far too salty to drink much).NOT SO LIKE1
    • I let the machine cool, then brewed another pot, this time running hot tap water water in the carafe to 'pre-heat' it, as per manufacturer directions
    • Second thing I noticed was that it is very awkward pouring water into the reservoir.
    • The water was too hot and came with too much force not giving enough time to brew
    • I even tried using hot water to fill with and to heat up the carafe first
    • Rinse 2-3X with hot water and your carafe will look BRAND NEW!!
    • It doesn't make the coffee hot enough, so you have to start with hot water
    • Our hard water ruined my previous one.
    • We cleaned it once and were able to keep it clean for about a year, but no amount of vinegar and hot water is fixing the problem this time.
    • I am on well water that is very hard so the carbon filter in the pot helps with the poor water quality
    • The water is hard to pour into the reservoir without also spilling into the beans or on the counter.
    • I love that it has filters too, because we have hard water.
    • Don't kill yourself (and spill water everywhere) trying to get the last of the water out of the carafe -- just fill until you're satisfied and dump the last ounce or so of water.2
    • It makes the perfect cup, it heats the water hotter, it's faster and it makes the perfect cup of coffee
    • Over flows are caused by filling the carafe with hot water and having the vents close when you go to brew, fill it with cold water and you won't have that issue, I have tested that 2 times and found that once I stopped filling with hot water I no longer had issues
    • Clean it when the coffee maker tells you to by adding 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water to the fresh water tank and hit the clean button
    • Like my old Cuisinart it makes a great cup of coffee but the thermal does not keep coffee hot long enough even when i preheat with hot water!
    • As other reviewers have noted that you MUST fully flush out the top and shake all the water out until you hear the flapper inside
    • Please remember this: the carafe is thermal, and if you use the carafe to load cold water in the machine, the carafe starts out cold, cooling the hot coffee being produced
    • Not hot water !!
    • The water gets very hot which is needed to make good coffee
    • I love the charcoal pre-filter as we are on well water at my cabin which is where I purchased this for
    • It is tall so while it fits under cabinets, you will have to pull it out to fill the water reservoir, which I suspect you have to with most.
    • (wastes hot water, but ...)
    • Not realizing that the handle was full of hot water, she spilled it on herself, causing a painful burn.
    • Only negative is it is a little awkward pouring the water in and if you are brewing less than a full pot, it's a little difficult to know how much water to fill the carafe as it does not have measurement lines on the carafe itself.
    • We used plain water first to clean it from factory oils etc.
    • Before I started to brew, I filled the carafe with super hot water, closed the lid and let it sit for 2 minutes, dumped the water out (and such a waste of water, btw) so that it would warm the "thermal" carafe.
    • The water well opening is small and adding water is tricky, easy to over fill.
    • I use Gevalia and we have a charcoal filter on our cold water, but I also use the filter provided by Cuisinart, which makes a very big difference in flavor.
    • Because of the cone shape in the coffee area and the hotter water used to make the coffee, I've been able to use less coffee per pot and still have a great cup of coffee that isn't at all weak.
    • I can't tell if they broke or if the heat from the hot water warped them
    • I havent tried to "pre warm" the carafe by heating it with hot water then pouring it
    • The water-fill opening that some reviewers complained about is a little
    • Mine spews hot water out of the top, back portion while it is brewing
    • I've tried putting extremely hot water in the carafe before making the coffee and letting it sit for a few minutes, but it still does not keep the coffee warm
    • Of course, the only plastic that comes in contact with the hot water is the plastic filter housing, I know
    • We called Cuisinart and they told us to use hot water to make the coffee....that didn't make much sense.
    • Also it does not heat the water hot enough.
    • The black plastic piece just snaps onto the glass and there is no seal so water and coffee are free to dribble between the two when pouring
    • I always end up cleaning up water/coffee that has dribbled out as I pour
    • The thermal carafe is great though, we always take one camping, keeps water hot all day for that 2nd cup of hot chocolate or instant coffee...
    • that is because we have hard water
    • That placement made the open end of the hollow handle point upward, so the handle filled up with hot dishwasher water, but it had no way to drain out.
    • I've found the best way is to fill the pot with hot tap water, drop in a dishwasher soap packet (brand doesn't matter), replace the lid and let stand for 6-8 hours
    • I tried everything - i heated the carafe, I heated the mug, I even made coffee with hot water and of course I used the small pot button
    • Mine spews hot water out of the top, back portion while it is brewing
    • I use Dip It to clean the inside of the carafe and scalding hot water
    • This one has proved to be great; it has a quick brewing time and the filter helps with our hard water
    • I used the 'recommended' water filters, cleaned the unit monthly and all that
    • I have hard water, I don't clean my coffeemaker like I should, and I make a LOT of coffee.
    • Where the top plastic meets carafe, water will condense/leak, and come out as you pour
    • The water well opening is small and adding water is tricky, easy to over fill.
    • It overheats the water, producing a bitter cup of
    • Doesn't heat water so you must put hot water if you want hot coffee!
    • Before I started to brew, I filled the carafe with super hot water, closed the lid and let it sit for 2 minutes, dumped the water out (and such a waste of water, btw) so that it would warm the "thermal" carafe.
    • You must fill pot with HOT water 2 times to get a decent cp of coffee.
    • I tried rinsing the pot with hot water inside and out and still cold
    • I keep one foe coffee and asecond for hot water.
    • The coffee tasted good, but the coffee is not hot enough for me unless I heat up the carafe first with hot water
    • Excellent hot water distribution over coffee grounds in cone filter..you can see the evenness of the process during cleanup
    • The next morning I boiled water and poured that into the carafe then let it set for five minutes and then brewed coffee into it
    • (wastes hot water, but ...)
    • We have very hard water here and even
    • Does not heat water hot enough for coffee
    • The carafe has a handle that's hollow at the bottom; if you turn it right-side up after taking it from your dishwasher, you'll spill a half-cup of hot water down your front.
    • Yes, I have followed all directions- preheated the thermal pot with hot water, pushed '1-4 cups', measured water and coffee as directed, and out comes lukewarm [at best] coffee
    • I waited for the hot water to drain, picked up the lid, and tried to snap it back into place.
    • 3 problems: metal plate under carafe is rusting, very drippy pour (however, I just saw a blog to soak the lid in hot water for a
    • It reminds you when to clean it and has a setting that slowly cleans all the hard water out (with vinegar that they tell you the ratio to water)
    • This thing requires additional water as some will boil or brew off.
    • The first one of these was pretty good for a while, but started to leak water(not coffee) on the counter when brewing.
    • I also do not use the charcoal water-filtering system because we have great well water with no chlorine.
    • I don't have the time to boil water and then stand and pour it over grounds (busy mom here).
    • This cleans the water during the brewing process and it only needs to be replaced once every 2 months
    • The water reservoir is to hard to poor water into so you end up spilling it all over the place
    • There are occasions when the water comes out smelling like burnt
    • You always miss and hit the counter or pour cold water on the fresh grounds
    • I have had to run the carafe under hot water and even nuke a 4 cup measure of water to pre-heat the carafe
    • Run super hot tap water into the caraf for a couple of minutes before starting the brew, and the caraf will keep coffee warm for a very long time
    • Make sure to put hot water in the thermal container so it keeps your coffee hot.
    • It is rather uncomfortable to pour the fresh water into the maker because of the angle of the opening.
    • It makes the greatest coffee since the water gets super hot and all the flavor of the coffee comes out, is excellent for flavored coffee.
    • Over flows are caused by filling the carafe with hot water and having the vents close when you go to brew, fill it with cold water and you won't have that issue, I have tested that 2 times and found that once I stopped filling with hot water I no longer had issues
    • Handy water gauge along the right side of the unit - I only filled it to 10 cups and had no overflow issues
    • The next morning I ran hot water into the carafe and let it set
    • Defective....water drained thru bottom onto counter and down into drawer and cabinet to floor.
    • I am on well water that is very hard so the carbon filter in the pot helps with the poor water quality
    • The negatives: pouring water into the machine is very cumbersome; the opening is very small and it's nearly impossible to tip the carafe completely into it to empty it.
    • Makes great coffee, but the coffee pot leaks a little water, they need to re-design it.
    • Just poor slowly so the water doesn't go all over the counter and it works perfectly.
    • We use expensive spring water from the water cooler, so I don't just want to pour it out if I put in too much
    • As opposed to the $20 makers that stay on for 2-4 hours, keeping your coffee nice, hot and fresh-The coffee does not stay hot for more than an hour in the thermos.-The water cleaning tablets are nice, but not necessary
    • If you pour cold water in immediately after switching the unit off you'll get a quick blast of scalding steam in the face.
    • I only saw the CLEAN light come on after about 4 weeks and did the vinegar cleaning and got a new filter by then (I suspect that frequency will increase with age of unit). We have rural well hard water that tastes very good but the hard water with minimal iron is tough on appliances not using soft water (which is far too salty to drink much).NOT SO LIKE1
    • BAD-- Brewing temperature is a few degrees lower than it should be (you can fix this by adding hot water instead of cold before brewing)- Should have an option to keep heating the thermal coffee pot once the machine stops
    • My wife placed the carafe in the dishwasher for initial cleaning and was burned by scalding hot water when she removed it from the dishwasher.
    • This coffee pot makes a lot of noise when pumping hot water into the carafe
    • I have poured piping hot water inside all holes in lid to "clean" as best I can, but it still drips coffee on counter while pouring, and sometimes spills coffee all over counter while brewing
    • The thermal carafe barely keeps the coffee warm, and then only if you do a good job of preheating it with hot water first
    • If you place the carafe in your dishwasher, be aware that the handle will be full of hot water when you take it out of the dishwasher
    • and I would drop a couple of spoonfuls in a cup of hot water and VOILA - coffee (just not perked - we called it instant.)
    • I have run straight water through the machine many times now but the issue is not improving, it really makes you wonder what chemicals you would ingest from this unit when pure water tastes like plastic
    • The water gets hot
    • Tastes better, and devices which boil water last way longer.
    • The coffee maker did not enjoy having hot water to start off with and I think I may have heard what sounded like it was telling me to @%#$!&#$
    • Two days ago I noticed that the plastic pour spout had come undone from the stainless carafe and the water, shortly followed by the coffee, leaked all over everything.
    • The one with the hot water for tea is a waste and a problem.
    • As others have advised, rinse the lid thoroughly and shake it to drain out the water to maintain the coffee drip flow.
    • Just be very careful when you take it out of the dishwasher and dump that water into the sink.
    • To rinse the lid, turn it upside down and let warm tap water run through the openings, especially the larger opening on the bottom of the carafe lid
    • First problem is the water isn't heated hot enough
    • Have to fill pot with hot water before pouring into coffer maker, otherwise the coffee pot will not hold heat
    • However I don't use that feature often now because I have to add HOT water to get the coffee stronger which tends to be weak
    • Now I have to microwave it after I pour a cup even after I waste so much hot water in carafe before brewing
    • Now I have to microwave it after I pour a cup even after I waste so much hot water in carafe before brewing
    • carafe does not keep coffee hot even after putting hot water in carafe before brewing.
    • Carafe keeps hot water hot all day, but coffee comes out lukewarm and stays that way
    • The next day, I fill with ground coffee and water and sometimes forget to re-install the top.
    • Water gets on the seat plate, and this will lead to rust over time
    • Actually, we were pleased with the coffeemaker....sadly, after only two years of use, it developed a leak that caused the insides to rust and then leak rusty water all over the counter with every use!
    • Disappointed in the pot design; the plastic top piece collects water and coffee and drips occasionally
    • Last night I soaked the lid in hot water, but there is NO change
    • Defective....water drained thru bottom onto counter and down into drawer and cabinet to floor.
    • I have run straight water through the machine many times now but the issue is not improving, it really makes you wonder what chemicals you would ingest from this unit when pure water tastes like plastic
    • I simply rinse out the filter basket, carafe and carafe lid, with warm water every morning after I finish the emptying the coffee pot (using the method stated
    • While I pour water from the carafe into the reservoir, water often leaks from the carafe and finds its way down through the filter and onto the hot plate
    • I like to warm the carafe with hot water as per directions <g. but hubby sees no need
    • Any water that makes its way to the bottom of the unit will corrode the bottom plate
    • I use the 4-cup setting to make the water hotter and also rinse the pot with hot water in the winter to pre-heat it
    • I think it's all about expectations, this is a thermal carafe with no heat plate (which is exactly what we wanted), so like a thermos, if you want the coffee to stay hot longer, you can prime the carafe by filling it with hot water for a few minutes before starting the coffee.
    • $15).Tip-start your brew with fresh hot water rather than cold.
    • excellent A++++
    • The lid is difficult to remove as well as to replace it on the carafe
    • I haven' t got it cleared yet.
