We recently experienced the same issue as many others - after brewing one morning (we had already had out coffee - the machine was on only for the warming plate), we found the plate glowing red, and a strong burning smell

After a morning brewing, when I was pouring coffee, the bottom heating element area began smoking out, and whole room with plastic burning smell, and you could see the crack line showed at same time

Apparently the heating element shorted out and filled the house with a horrible electrical burning smell

Today, about 20 minutes after making a pot, we look over and smoke is coming from the maker and there is an awful burning smell

Five months after I purchased this, it had an electrical issue and made electrical burning smell and smoke throughout my condo

The beans are crushed with the burr grinder, verses my old G&B that cut them with blades

Other grind-n-brews we tried would beep every 2 minutes for up to an hour if we did not take the pot off.3

After purchasing 2 other grind-n-brews (and returning them) we ordered this one and love it!1

I really liked the look and convenience of the grind n brew and had good luck with Cuisinart brand coffee makers in the past but not this one.
