- the machine is smooth and (relatively) quiet.

This is an excellent fun machine

Machine is not any more noisier than other gadgets

But the machine is a breeze to use- rather than the cheaper cuisinart machines that do not have built in refrigeration, you can make batches of icecream in a row

I highly recommend this machine and have found that it runs with no problems if you follow the instructions for operation and take care to keep everything clean and dry

But if you're serious about ice cream, this machine is entirely worth the purchase price.

I’m not seeing the need for cornstarch and pectin, but those can also absorb any excess water and enhance smoothness. Keeping the machine clean: Since I read the reviews, I’m being extra careful not to drip any ice cream into the tiny gaps around the tub.

This is with the unit turned on and chilled base poured in, without giving the machine time to "cool off" before starting.

You do not want to scratch the machine's bowl because it would damage the Teflon coating.

I wanted a good ice cream machine and chose this Cuisinart for the fact that I don't have to wait around for the tub to freeze (because there is a compressor built in), and because I like Cuisinart designs

All in all a good quality machine that works well.

The machine is also fairly loud while it's churning.

Also, the paddles are a bit of a pain to clean out after each batch (because of their design, there's a lot of nooks and crannies to clean out), but it is a delicious chore nonetheless!A tip for multiple batches: run the machine for 10-15 minutes less for the second and subsequent batches, because once the bowl is already frozen the ice cream freezes faster

Advantage of the ICE-100 is you can use it continuously over and over to freeze as much as you want, whereas the pre-freezable unit is a one-time use then need to refreeze for ~24 hours
