De'Longhi KG89 Burr Coffee Grinder with Grind Selector and Quantity Control

    • The ground coffee, even on its finest setting, isn't suitable for espresso - it is too coarse
    • However, it produced way too many fines for my taste, and the coarsest setting is a slightly coarse drip grind at best
    • I did a side-by-side comparison with a cheap years-old blade grinder that has served me well, and with grinds from both in two piles on a plate it is obvious that the DeLonghi grinder produces significantly larger particles than the blade grinder even on the finest setting
    • One complaint, the 'coarse' setting is very fine.
    • I haven't had success using the grinds from the coarsest setting in my french press.
    • Even with all this, the finest setting is too coarse.
    • The fine setting grinds the beans to just the right amount to pull full bodied shots
    • A knob on the side is for the "course/fine" setting and the one in the front for the volume to grind
    • The best thing I've managed to do is run cheap rice through the grinder on the finest setting which absorbs much of the oil and filth on its way out
    • However, it produced way too many fines for my taste, and the coarsest setting is a slightly coarse drip grind at best
    • Also the calibration is way off--the coarsest setting produces a grind too fine even for a cone drip filter.
    • As for the grind: The coarsest setting works beautifully for French press / Mid-setting great for dripTo grind for espresso, though

    • I grind a 6 cup setting for the 8 cup French press.*Grind setting is important, make sure this is correct before grinding.*Grinder will auto-stop, but you can stop it by pushing the start button while it is running.*Lid and receptacle are
    • After using this grinder several times I've given up on it because the fine setting is still too coarse for espresso coffee

    • The espresso grind is the setting we both use most & it is evenly and perfectly grinded every time.
    • Google "delonghi burr grinder hack" and you'll find out that the most fine setting is not fine enough for espresso

    • It seems that the coarse setting grinds the coffee about as fine as the finer settings which was a surprise to me.
    • Even with all this, the finest setting is too coarse.

    • One complaint, the 'coarse' setting is very fine.
    • I only make espresso - so my review won't help you much unless your using it for the fine grind setting
    • If you want a coarse grind for a french press you may be disappointed, the coarse setting is still finer than I would typically use for french press coffee.
    • I should note that I ran the blade grinder through two full cycles on it's finest setting, but this only adds an extra 15-20 seconds of grinding
    • I found the finest setting was actually too fine for my Delonghi Dedica because it was over-extracting when adjusting for both time or
    • We use a Chemex and it even on the most coarse setting, the beans were no where near the level we need them
    • Does not grind evenly, I get plenty of little coffee particles even in the coarse setting

    • My two upgrade wishes would be a true anti-static plastic container (it makes a static-e mess at times) and being able to get a finer grind for espresso
