Reviews around state (5.00 of 5)

  • I've run it through solid state and tube heads, sounds great with both, and it stacks well with an OD behind it
  • This is a great distortion if you like that crispy and firm solid state sound
  • It can turn your tone and volume knob actually useful on a good solid state
  • On the solid state amp, the tone was a little difficult to dial in.
  • I have found using it on a tube amp is good and even using it on a good solid state amp can make it sound awesome

Reviews around amp (5.00 of 5)

  • On the solid state amp, the tone was a little difficult to dial in.
  • I have found using it on a tube amp is good and even using it on a good solid state amp can make it sound awesome
  • I read that DOD really aimed to make a pedal that works great with a clean or already dirty amp, and I can see that from my use of it
  • But the tone controls of the DOD Gunslinger are extremely powerful, and after playing with that and accounting for the fact that this is a very high output pedal, I started to pull some great amp-like distortion sounds out of it.

Reviews around way (5.00 of 5)

  • Either way, you have a winner, and if it doesn't have enough gain you can either boost it with your OD, or run a touch of compression before it, and problem solved
  • I mostly keep the gain down all the way and the volume about 75%, bass over half way and treble under half
  • It is not the best way to use, and results can be quite different with other amplifiers

Reviews around choice (5.00 of 5)

  • A lot of distortion/overdrive pedals out there for guitarist to choose from...a lot of them expensive...some of them cheap...the Digitech DOD-GUNSLINGER MOSFET Distortion Pedal is a very affordable, well built & sturdy, and excellent sounding choice
  • It doesn't seem like it'd be the best choice for more modern distortion, you might want a Wampler Triple Wreck for that, but for that classic metal sound this thing is awesome

Reviews around knob (5.00 of 5)

  • It can turn your tone and volume knob actually useful on a good solid state
  • Run the 2 left controls at about 2 o'clock and the right knobs at about 11 o'clock
  • I also like that it has a low and high knob for adjusting the tone and bass response, better than having only a gain and level knob like the dod 250 that i used to have and the fender malmsteen overdrive pedal that i currently have

Reviews around clarity (5.00 of 5)

  • Nice distortion pedal with great midrange clarity and a very classy volume control
  • Good sustain and clarity of the notes.
  • Provides great note clarity even at full gain level.

Reviews around level (5.00 of 5)

  • I was hoping this would take my tone to that, over the top level
  • I also like that it has a low and high knob for adjusting the tone and bass response, better than having only a gain and level knob like the dod 250 that i used to have and the fender malmsteen overdrive pedal that i currently have

Reviews around tone (3.86 of 5)

  • To summarize, the Gunslinger wasn't a distortion pedal that instantly reminded me of the classic rock distortion tones I expected.
  • On the tube amp, the tone became a little too dark and mushy.
  • I was able to get surprisingly good tone from this pedal
  • The tone is unreal for a boutique pedal, let alone something at this price point
  • Has a very good tone with as much sustain as you would ever need for single note lead work
