so I decided to try out 2 replacement key products, the plain black replacement key as well as the VW-style flip key (apparently shipped from another country so buyers beware... took about a month to arrive).First thing, if you're not too savvy with taking things apart and putting them back together (and even if you are) search some youtube videos on how to transfer your internals to the new key

Works well but toyota won't cut these keys.

On the bright side it probably wont break as easy and Toyota cut the key for free!

Wow..It saved $400, worked as described, but it was little difficult to take transponder chip from old key.

This works for 2005 Scion tC. The loop is thicker than the original key, and the button work better

Step 3: Open the key by using a flat head screwdriver on the notch that is in the top loop

It took me a while, but I figured it out - I won't spoil it for you DIYers who plan to make this great money saving buy.

Don't waste your money and just get the real deal to start with (even though it's ludicrously expensive), as this is just sunk money into a junk product that no one will touch.

Broken in a month, this is the 3rd one I ordered, I will not waste more money to order this kind of replacement anymore.

Hard to believe the quality of this key for the price - seems more sturdy than the original Toyota key.

I purchased this key to replace a broken key for a Scion tC. Quality of it is fine, but, after taking it to two Lowes locations (that refuse to cut it because it's not sold in stores), two Home Depots that refused to touch it (because they don't have the equipment), and a highly rated locksmith that said "I won't even touch that," you're basically buying a useless blank

Had this key cut and removed the chip from my old key and it works in my car just fine.

Only caveat is as this is not their material, the cut is not guaranteed to be exact, and if it doesn't fit, no refunds.

Stuck the internals in got the Key cut and works like a charm.

My case broke and Dealer wanted to sell me a new keyless (KEY) for over $100 and added cost to program it.

The case itself works to hold my inner parts from my original key.

the key case broke completely and we try to fix them and walah

Two needle nose pliers helped do the trick (twist the old case until the chip -- which is covered in some type of epoxy -- pops out of the compartment.
