I’ve had the opportunity to use other RAID systems but none compare to what Drobo offers as they really do have the best most efficient device around

Many people suggested a faster "active" Thunderbolt 3 cable may improve the performance

Performance is "good" I believe, given the following:1 - USB 3 connection2 - lack of mSATA card3 - consumer grade magnetic drives4 - MacProTest data below.

Drobo must have brought back the crew they had running tech support when the company first started.

I can't rate the tech support because I've never needed them.

If I had known about the lack of tech support availability and that this thing wasn't rock simple then I might have chose differently

Don't trust your precious data to these units, they will only let you down time and time again!

And once it does, disaster will follow if your profession depends on the precious data that you have collected throughout the year

I am using all 4TB WD Gold Drives.

All 3 of them have failed numerous times leaving us in a scramble to recover the 40 TB of data stored on the units

three 4TB Seagate Ironwolf drives into the bays (5 available bays), plugged in with a thunderbolt 3 cable and an adaptor for MacBook pro 2011.My first project was an adventure race, filming and editing videos everyday whilst on the move and the Drobo was perfect, not too big, clear lighting on the front to indicate power, drive health etc and extremely fast data transfer rates.

Drobo support wanted me to buy a 4th drive to see if it would do the same thing a 4th time - No thank-you.

I often work on client projects on location or while traveling then rsync photo catalogs and edited images from my portable hard drives to my Drobos to keep everything up to date and backed up

I like the drive, and feel it is the right solution moving forward, I do hope that Drobo will get Thunderbolt 3 support sooner than later.

I have no idea why, although reading around on forums a lot of people have had the same impression -- some attribute it to crappy fans or cheap power supplies -- I don't know enough to say one way or another

IF: you don't care about noise all that much and can live with a loud, buzzy hum and constant fan noise

The fan was just too loud for me so, I sent it back!
