Worthless device, in that respect

These devices are so good and so easy to use

I figured out later on my own that this device has a problem with some types of WPA2 encryption.

As an ecobee, it's a good device

I felt the ecobee is equivalent to the Nest I owned a few years ago in terms of being a quality Smart thermostat device

Good integration with smart devices and good speaker and Mic for alexa.

Unfortunately if the ecobee servers go down, your thermostat turns into a dumb device

(The combination still works better but not enough better to warrant using two separate devices)

It shows the weather, can play music, connect it to your phone to use as a hands free device, and you can also ask Alexa an infinate range of questions (she has the entire internet at her disposal so her answer has got to be true.... right)...

Overall, the Ecobee4 is still a great device with lots of very handy features, but I would recommend buyers purchase the Ecobee3 over the 4

This device works great

When I installed my first smart device I got a lot of all new features and functionality but the reality of running a day-to-day schedule of heating and cooling my home actually got more complicated and in some ways not any more improved

Otherwise it is great energy saver/climate comfort device.

At 4 pm it is set at 84, the temperature is 78, and the AC is running!Support tells me it it is a smart device and operating as designed

Telling alexa to increase temp from couch is awesome (but regular devices are better)

I had hoped that the Ecobee4's built-in Echo would actually give me better Echo coverage for the house and my other smart device controls, but the mic's are so weak on the Ecobee4 that I need to be 5-6 foot away for it to clearly pickup voice commands.

BAD IDEA.This device does not make use of Echo Spatial Perception (Amazon doesn't allow 3rd party devices to use it) and therefore if you have Amazon Echo, whenever you use it to do anything, the closest Echo and all your Ecobees will try to perform and respond to the commands

If that wasn't enough my Alexa app doesn't recognize the Ecobee4 as a device available for multi room music.

The device works

It's a fantastic thermostat and can easily group multiple air handlers and be controlled as one, it's just not a good Alexa device.

Tech support is out sourced, but that aside i was told that the device may not be compatible

I had some difficulty installing my device on a very old Trane system.

This device can only work on 2.4 but there's no settings in it to restrict it to that

The app is laggy and buggy - it often fails to effect changes (I have a lot of smart home devices - this is the only one with that issue so it is unlikely to be an issue with WiFi or somesuch).4

This is an amazing device that is easy to install

It's not a Smart Home compatible device, so you can't have Alexa control it directly, only indirectly, such as "Alexa, ask ecobee to set the temperature to 70 upstairs"

However, the device itself doesn't have the same high-end finish of the Nests it was going to replace, and it instantly crashed and rebooted every time we tried to use the built in Echo

The red light is quite unsightly and ruins the aesthetic of an otherwise great looking device

This a massive oversight for a modern IoT device that would otherwise be a solid piece of gear

this device is garbage and will be obsolete in 2-3 years, it’s not better than any wifi-enabled thermostat, there are many solid ones3

or I have to split up all my 2.4GHz and 5GHz devices across two separate networks which means I lose the ability to control everything from the Home kit in iOS because I'd essential have to change networks to control my AC and change networks back for just about everything else (the way my network is configured now)

If you don't already have any Alexa devices maybe it is fine, but our house has a few devices in it already, and while they work well together, they don't work as well now that Ecobee is in the house

I can get my flash report, it can manage my smart home devices and do all the other stuff I've come to expect from Alexa.

If this is the only device you will own as an Alexa device, great, but be warned if you have many in your house you might get annoyed by the lack of wake weird change or Mic sensitivity control.

I've also noticed the device is more responsive to female voices than my (male) voice

After that is installed you can control the thermostat from all your Alexa enabled devices as well as ask them what the temp is in each room with a sensor.

It will never reconnect automatically back to the network (like every other smart device I own does)

If you forget to tell Alexa to "ask ecobee", then she responds with "You have no smart home devices", despite having added the "ecobee plus" skill

Having built-in Alexa is kinda nice, but the mic quality is nowhere near as good as the Echo devices, so you shouldn’t really expect this to be a substitute for those if you have them.

It won't report the humidity or other settings... it only offers the very very basics with the smart home devices

The install was incredibly easy, and my home was not equipped with the infamous “C” wire

If the house is a little stale at 72 and I want to bump the a/c down to 71, I shouldn't realize a few minutes later that the house is at 68 and I have been running the a/c the entire time
