We love our ecobee

The ecobee itself is good

This is zero improvement over a great ecobee 3.

The Ecobee seems cheaper and more plasticly

I almost regret getting the Ecobee with Alexa built in, I have multiple Alexas, and this one does not have (currently) the ability to determine which Alexa heard the question, and have only one respond, which often leads to multiple responses, and is just obnoxious.

Ecobee is more difficult to set up, but their customer service/tech support is very knowledgeable if you need them.

So the issue that this has caused is when I get a new router, the Ecobee will work fine for a few months and then randomly, one day I'll lose the ability to control it from my smartphone.

Ecobee also states this will not support a variable speed system; mine

Ecobee blamed the installer and would not make a warranty replacement.

Ecobee recently pushed out an update that fixed this, and it works flawlessly.

The issue is that Ecobee decided to only support 2.4GHz frequencies.

The Ecobee's auto-control of the fan smooths out the temperature, to the point where you don't notice it anymore.

The HVAC guy told me they have a lot of problems with NEST but love the Ecobee

Cons:-Ecobee's Alexa is not compatible yet with all skills normally associated with Alexa products.

The Ecobee kept the first floor balanced at 68 degrees and warm throughout the floor

Ecobee however added Alexa, but no major improvements in Ecobee 4

Ecobee loses connection to Alexa/ Amazon very often

He was able to trace this to a defective ecobee within an hour.

The ecobee is by far, a vast improvement over the old low-tech programmable Trane thermostat that came with the HVAC unit

The vacation scheduling feature is nice, so that you let your ecobee know well in advance when you're planning to be gone, so that you don't have to "check" that box on your way out the door.

Obviously, there are a lot of others who do not have these problems and the ecobee 4 works fine.

The microphone on these things either suck or just act weird, like my upstairs ecobee will respond when I'm sitting a few feet from my downstairs Echo.

Let me start by saying I love the Ecobee as a thermostat (and I love Echo Dot for Alexa)

As far as a thermostat, this ecobee is great

While I can't necessarily blame Ecobee for my struggles, I can blame their installation guide for doing absolutely nothing to help make sense of my setup.

However, the ecobee is so smart, I don't ever need to!One annoyance, the thermostat is mounted about 10 feet from an Echo dot, and when both are listening - they both respond.

My main reason for doing so well is because the ecobee is HomeKit compatible, but the functionality of the ecobee surpasses the nest by a long shot.

I am hoping that future software upgrades will improve the Ecobee

Overall, I suggest you get the Ecobee 3 and a Echo Dot rather than Ecobee 4 if you like Ecobee

The game changer that Ecobee is famous for is the remote sensors that help monitor the temperature in other rooms of your home and help you feel comfortable

As a happy Ecobee 3 customer, I really wanted to love the Ecobee 4

The newer "ecobee plus" skill works but requires the extra step of telling Alexa to ask ecobee to control the thermostat rather than just telling Alexa (which isn't hard when I remember it but an annoyance most of the time since I usually don't).I like ecobee

They led me thru the usual suspects---try connecting again; unplug and reconnect ecobee from the wall; unplug the router and re-start; turn off other devices connected to home wifi

The ecobee itself was easy to set up and is working great a few minutes after the box was opened.

Ecobee provides great support via the included install manual, but even better support is provided in the app and on their website making it easy to see this through every step of the way

You must use the ecobee app (which works great) to set a modified comfort setting with a return-to-schedule logic (more a hit against Apple's app)

I believe what ecobee does well is to remotely monitor several thermostats, however what they fail at is incorporating the Amazon Echo into their unit

I love Ecobee offers an additional thermostat that you can discreetly set on a shelf.

Ecobee does a combination of both for improved efficiencies, and comfort (who doesn’t want that?).If you want your system to turn off when you open a window, it can do that too, but only if you have a home automation system to send a command to the Ecobee to turn off when a window (or group of windows) opens

The only thing that I am unsure of is how well the Ecobee will actually work this winter.

I have used two of an earlier Ecobee smart themostat for 4+ years.

Ecobee is great, I have my villa IT networked and installed upstairs

No love here, I foolishly purchased the Ecobee w/sensor and 2 more sensors without realizing that sensors are worthless without automated registers to direct the warm/cooled air to those sensors calling for either

One top of that, ecobee has been in the Smart Stat space for a VERY long time - much longer than Nest.

I think new customers deserve to know how bad Ecobee is treating their customers.

As an added bonus, we have noticed that the main floor (where the Ecobee is) remains much more comfortable.

The install was incredibly easy, and my home was not equipped with the infamous “C” wire

If the house is a little stale at 72 and I want to bump the a/c down to 71, I shouldn't realize a few minutes later that the house is at 68 and I have been running the a/c the entire time
