    Educated: A Memoir

    • These scenes were as chilling as any horror flick and another reason I had to remind myself how young she was when her isolated family started making negative impressions on her brain—because it just didn’t make sense that she’d put herself in a vulnerable situation like that
    • "Hillbilly Elegy," "The Glass Castle," and "Liars' Club."While each of these books tells the story of a true outlier--a really egregiously weird set of parents the kids have to deal with--unfortunately I'm beginning to think these situations are not quite as exceptional as I would have thought in the past
    • I found myself yelling along at the many returns to an impossible situation
    • So many people have situation similar to Tara and do not accomplish finding themselves.
    • I disliked the abusive situation that she tried to minimize and she did not try to fight back.
    • Was expecting the book to be more relevant to the title, but it ended up being more about one abusive situation or accident after another.
    • I’ve seen other reviews questioning the validity of Tara’s story (with seemingly no evidence), but I see no reason to believe that she fabricated these unfortunate situations
    • Is it really a parent's right to use their children as labor in any dangerous situation they please
    • She had a very hard time breaking away from a very unhealthy situation because her family’s beliefs were so deeply ingrained in her
    • Tara survives some extremely risky situations.
    • It's hard to imagine that no one intervened in this horrific home situation.
    • Dangerous and traumatic situations could have been avoided
    • I admire greatly the author whose harrowing experience out of this restrictive and abusive situation situates her in the heroine category, in my view
    • You don’t have to go off the grid or be ultra religious or home school to find it, though the isolation in her family magnified the situation and allowed it to continue unchecked
    • I know a number of people who have simply walked away from untenable family situations.
    • What a horrible situation to grow up in
    • I realize that terrible situations in dysfunctional families really do exist so I don't feel like I am sticking my head in the sand
    • Well how come the rest of us can’t get into an Ivy League or get A’s on essays or 100% on finals that we failed the midterm for?
    • n’t put down but dread seeing it end.
    • n’t write another book unless she has actually freed her mind.
    • n’t think the author is lying (as others claim)
    • I should think that abuse as brutal as she described and the family denial will take her much longer to recover from than she describe
    • Tara’s story might help people to better understand who they are and inspire them to make themselves a fundamental change in their lives, as well as it might help the world, the public opinion, and people in position of leadership to better understand the dramatic lives of people isolated from education and health services
    • Furthermore, like her old sect, her new religion will reward her so long as she follows its tenets.
    • Brave as in everything she went
    • n’t put down but dread seeing it end.
    • n’t write another book unless she has actually freed her mind.
    • n’t think the author is lying (as others claim)
